On the ruck situation, if Leuy retires but Smack re-signs, I'd just stick with Belly, Draper, Smack and Lavender/JD as emergencies. Its not perfect, but I think list spots will be at too much of a premium this year to go any other way, and Draper is close enough to get by at senior level.

And frankly, which ruck is going to come to us to be behind Belly, while playing VFL FF so that Draper gets ruck time?

Aaron Hall anyone?
I'd think seriously about this. He's clearly an upgrade on Colyer, would probably not be expensive, and the upside is if he improves in a "real" system, rather than the GCS joke. His best is very good.

Depending on cost, I think he's a risk worth taking. Lots of upside, and potentially limited downside. If you could trade Colyer out as part of the deal, it wouldn't even cost a list spot.

Have you seen the kid play? Will be an A-grade mid within 2 years.
Would cost the world potentially their next captain and he seems pretty keen to stay at the club. Very loyal.

I dont think hes worth discussing as hes not moving and even if he was would cost an arm and a leg and hes not the type of mid we need.

I also dont mind the idea of Hall can play a variety of roles. Id say his best footy ahead of him could be off the back flank.

It all comes down to what id be prepared to give away and whata his worth.

Opposition think he can be that damaging that he gets alot of tags when at GC. He could either be rid of that or help Z.Merrett with diversifying the attention.

Stick him in Colyer's spot, similar players, similar deficiencies, Hall has better football in him. Spend the preseason drumming defensive mantras into him, he is elite when he is on I'd back a change in scenery to bring out the best in him.

I know he started as a fwd and showed a bit there but i think hes been so out of thtlat area that its past him.

Although i guess Colyer could be considered a winger.

Im not against it but everyone has a price and as long as i feel im getting value then id do it.

If he is cheap, which he would appear to be, he'd be a good pick up. I think the coaches want all our small forwards to play through the middle, so he'd be one of the better rotation options we'd have.

Colyer is depth though.

Whats the deal with Francis these days? Does he still want to go home? Was just wondering regarding his selection. Maybe the club is hoping to pump up his trade value a bit before the end of the season.

Brisbane Lions join chase for Western Bulldogs midfielder Mitch Wallis
JAY CLARK, Herald Sun
July 27, 2018 9:21am

BRISBANE has joined the hunt for Western Bulldogs free agent Mitch Wallis to help beef up its midfield for a finals tilt next season.

The Lions have some of the best young talent in the competition and are targeting Wallis to add more leadership and strength through the midfield.

The Herald Sun understands a rival club could prise Wallis out of Whitten Oval with a four-year deal, securing his future until the end of 2022.

Wallis is highly rated at the kennel and his experience and team discipline over 118 games appeals to the Lions, who hit the jackpot acquiring champion Luke Hodge from Hawthorn late last year.

The Lions have registered their interest in the hard-running midfielder with the Wallis camp, but there are a number of clubs in the race to land the father-son jet.

Mitch’s father, Stephen, played 261 games for the Dogs between 1983 and 1996.

Wallis has already attracted interest from Essendon and Gold Coast, with the Bombers widely believed to be in the box seat to keep him in Melbourne.

Essendon is openly targeting another inside ball-winner and is planning to be active in trade period again after landing Jake Stringer, Devon Smith and Adam Saad last year.

Essendon has a quality midfield brigade but want another hard-nosed onballer such as Wallis to fill the void left by Jobe Watson when he retired at the end of last season.

Wallis is weighing up his future at the Bulldogs after another decent season, averaging 21 possessions across 13 games this year.

Wallis has made a full recovery from the horrific broken leg in 2016 but he appeared to fall out of favour last year, playing 12 senior games.

The Dogs are looking to make changes to their list after missing finals for the second-straight year on the back of a stunning 2016 premiership.

Wallis is one of four Western Bulldogs’ free agents facing uncertain futures.

Tom Liberatore, Luke Dahlhaus, Jordan Roughead and Wallis are able to switch clubs at the end of the season under free agency rules.

The club also wants veteran defender Dale Morris to play on next season.

Hoping Francis stars in the backline before moving forward and snagging 3 big ones to win the game.
In the real world Woosh will play him on Buddy the whole game, get a flogging, go back to the VFL then home.

I know that you have to make the offer that length to entice him over but four years for depth? Who is he replacing?
Don't think he'd be just depth here. A quality contested mid than can effectively rest forward is definitely something we need. If I was hazarding a guess, Smith/Merrett would be moved to more outside roles and Wallis would come in at the expense of Guelfi. Only issue for mine is Wallis' pace given our current midfielders.
