Am i missing something with Saad? He was a backpocket player in a very ordinary side who played 22 games, average just under 17 possessions and could only come 10th in the Suns best and fairest, these stats don't equate to the trades that are being thrown up, pick 28 is be the best the Gold Coast should expect to do.

GC has already rejected 11 for Saad and 19.

Days are flashing past and nothing appears to be happening in the hope that everything will sort itself out on the last day.
It's annoying, because at this stage last year there had been 1 trade go through and this year, there's been nothing! #FlashingNoHypebole

(Though another pair of trades was about to drop tomorrow...)

Would like to get GC to a mediation as presumably there is a mediator appointed who is capable of giving a meaningful independent evaluation of a player's worth.

It would be nice to have GC explain how Saad is worth more than Hibberd who we traded to pick 29 almost straight away. They can knock back the upgrade proposal but this talk of a first round pick on its own is standard GC bullshit (which was first on display when they knocked back 19 and Cale Hooker for Caddy).

It's immaterial that Saad is contracted because they've already agreed to get him home. In those circumstances there is no point pretending that the deal is going to happen or that anyone else will be stumping up a first round pick.

The Saad deal is no where near as complicated as GC will make it. Frankly, why did we even bother trying to cut a deal for a contracted player with those clowns.

I don't believe it's that bizarre at all, the clubs view players as a commodity, if an asset isn't performing to expectations then wouldn't the club be required to trade that player on for the opportunity to acquire a new player who might perform better?

I hope we don't draft players that don't perform to expectations and then trade them on, obviously we want every player drafted to be a gun. However I'm yet to see anything at AFL level that would suggest any of the three mentioned are a better prospect the three players we are trying to trade into the club or any of the players in the draft pool next year. I also don't believe I'm alone in this view.

Maybe Langford, Laverde and Francis will all turn into the players we want them to be, I honestly hope they do, but if one of them facilitates us bringing in three best 22 players meanwhile keeping all options available for next years draft/trade period then one of them gets moved on in my opinion.

You're trading two players that we have no right in reality to expect we can better as talents during the second round of a draft. I don't care how good they say 2018 will be.

Laverde and Langford were taken late first round early second of a very strong draft.

Impatience of fans aside, we should still expect both to be 200 game players with the doubt being whether they are good enough to be genuine stars.

You want to trade these guys out just as we start to round out their development and start the process again for the likes of Devon Smith and Saad?

I just don't get it.

They could comfortably argue that he's worth more than Jake Melksham for pick 25 though.

I've just had a quick look to see what's happened this week - and unless I've missed something nothing has occurred - yet some are so emotionally invested. This thread reads like a real life soap-opera.

Do people seriously not have better things to do than anxiously wait over every little bit of gossip? We will find out what happens at the close of business Friday week and no amount of CTR+R will change anything. Until then, relax and get on with life.
No, do you??

I agree with those suggesting we leave Stringer until last. Secure Smith and Saad, then deal with the Dogs. Whilst Stringer would obviously be a great addition, our forward line is the one part of the ground where we're already set.

Also - Saad is being underrated. He'd be our best small defender (assuming we're counting McGrath as a mid).

They could take any other number of trades but Hibberd is a really good one because it's a year old and he was a gun half back (i.e. the same position) which is an assessment now supported by his All Australian selection.

The fact that we owed Hibberd is akin to GC already agreeing to trade Saad home for cultural reasons. If they can get a first round pick on its own so be it but that's a fantasy and everyone knows it.

They pull bullshit every year at trade time.

It is not really the mediators job to provide an evaluation of a players worth. They are not qualified do to that and would not know anything more than the average footy fan. The AFL appoints them and they could be judges, justices who have the skills to deal with situations when negotiations break down. Their opinions on what a player is worth is useless.

What a waste of time a judge or barrister would be. There is almost no value having a mediator who does not have experience in the field and whose opinion would not have any weight (behind closed doors when discussing with a party direct).

What's someone from the legal profession going to do, talk about the cost of litigation and respective legal positions of the parties?

Edit: yes, it's not up to a mediator to make a decision or to chastise a party in a joint session, but the mediator should know enough to be able to point out the issues with a respective position (both substantively and commercially) and in doing so help to bridge the gap between them. Why else would you bother with the process?
