It is not really the mediators job to provide an evaluation of a players worth. They are not qualified do to that and would not know anything more than the average footy fan. The AFL appoints them and they could be judges, justices who have the skills to deal with situations when negotiations break down. Their opinions on what a player is worth is useless.
What a waste of time a judge or barrister would be. There is almost no value have a mediator who does not have experience in the field and whose opinion would not have any weight (behind closed doors when discussing with a party direct).

What's someone from the legal profession going to do, talk about the cost of litigation and respective legal positions of the parties?
Gordo maybe do some research, because that is factually incorrect. I work in the legal field and there is absolutely no fact in the statement that mediators are judges or judicial officers except in really exceptional circumstances, and certainly not in trade negotiations for AFL clubs.

Mediators, and Conciliators (Bruno what you described is probably this) are in fact chosen often because they have experience in the field in which they are mediating/conciliating. Any industry that uses these methods actually use people who have experience in the field. I imagine that the AFL would indeed appoint someone that has some knowledge of footy, preferably even TPP or sports administration experience, that way they can pose questions and help rekindle negotiation which is helpful.

I agree with those suggesting we leave Stringer until last. Secure Smith and Saad, then deal with the Dogs. Whilst Stringer would obviously be a great addition, our forward line is the one part of the ground where we're already set.

Also - Saad is being underrated. He'd be our best small defender (assuming we're counting McGrath as a mid).
Might be good to look at a third midfielder or outside runner with quick hands, in the meantime.

Stringer is an unknown at the moment and you have to wonder why Beveridge is willing to take a low pick to move him on, Beveridge a guy that knows his stuff!

I'd be keeping Francis and i'd be going after 3 midfielders, inside ball-winners, maybe some good run and carry players.

Stringer if possible but not a priority.

We really need a player like an "Edwards" from the Tigers, who i rate extremely highly when it comes to contested play and fast reflexes to get the ball moving through the midfield.

we also lack defensive muscle from our mids, in my opinion...

a lot of our playing group just don't seem well built to take on a contest at its full potential...

McGrath is an example of a player who has toughness in the contest...

Players like Edwards, Prestia, the tigers have mastered the skill and toughness of how to make something out of every contest.

Would like to get GC to a mediation as presumably there is a mediator appointed who is capable of giving a meaningful independent evaluation of a player's worth.

It would be nice to have GC explain how Saad is worth more than Hibberd who we traded to pick 29 almost straight away. They can knock back the upgrade proposal but this talk of a first round pick on its own is standard GC bullshit (which was first on display when they knocked back 19 and Cale Hooker for Caddy).

It's immaterial that Saad is contracted because they've already agreed to get him home. In those circumstances there is no point pretending that the deal is going to happen or that anyone else will be stumping up a first round pick.

The Saad deal is no where near as complicated as GC will make it. Frankly, why did we even bother trying to cut a deal for a contracted player with those clowns.
Add to the fact that they are rejecting Geelong's offers for a 34 year old that would likely retire at Gold Coast and Matera for supposedly a 3rd rounder from Fremantle, Gold Coast are the true hard to deal with club.

What looked to be a pretty straight forward second round pick is muddied for no reason.

Stringer + Dogs 2018 1st for 11 + 29 + Dons 2018 2nd
Saad + 19 for Dons 2018 1st
Smith for 19
31 for Colyer + 46

Get all three and a likely top 10 pick in next years draft. Can use 31 for the best big-bodied mid available in this years draft (possibly Shipley).

I like the part where we back in the boys to push our 2018 1st well below dogs' 2018 1st for extra value :thumbsu:
Though too much risk for the Suns to accept that for the same reason.
