If Daniher goes to GWS, would GWS match for Cameron?
It depends. The hypothetical situation could be:

GWS offer enough for band 1 compensation for Daniher
We trade that in return and maybe something extra for Cameron

The upshot is they get Cameron for Daniher and a first and we essentially get Daniher and a little extra for Cameron

He’s not the answer but we did draft Hibberd for this very role. And we’ve played him in the middle for a grand total of about 10 minutes this season.

I reckon this is a disingenuous concession we make.

Hibberd is a monster who likes the physical side of the game, prepared to play a sacrificial role but can also distribute. He's a better endurance runner than anyone named, closer to elite than not.

It makes him something close to ideal.

He's a bit off the pace but building in to it. It's completely up to us at this point. He is close enough for a career to become a self fulfilling prophecy base on our decision to play him. That's what it takes for a large number of players.

It really all comes back to the hierarchy and delusional ideas like Heppell is an inside mid.

If we gave Hibberd the chances Zaharakis is getting, he'd probably forge a respectable career.

Has the physical tools and mindset needed, just needs opportunity and continuity.

May never be a star, but no reason he can't be an 'average' AFL quality inside midfielder.

For reference, average is

~ 17 disposals / 2.5 marks / 3 tackles / 0.3 goals.

Against Adelaide he had 15 / 2 / 9 / 0

Heppell’s contested numbers and clearances mirror Shiel who is our number 1 contested mid and clearances player this year, Heppell is an inside mid for us whether we want to acknowledge it or not.

He is... and are we really discounting his ability to change his game further to the inside?

He’s certainly not afraid to get in there, and putting on a bit of weight isn’t impossible.

I know it’s not your suggestion but as a general comment, any situation that sees GWS losing Cameron for Daniher is delusional.

And the simple notion of Cameron actually leaving GWS is probably bordering on the delusional.

Yeah I was just playing out the hypothetical for a bit of fun.

Jeremy Cameron linked to Geelong and Essendon:

Obviously take it with a grain of salt, but it would be perfect for us if Daniher wanted to live in Sydney. Cameron to Essendon and Daniher to GWS. Daniher would be on less coin than Cameron so it'll give them some salary cap space.

Of course he's about 95% certain to stay at GWS, but maybe a bad year for GWS might change his mind.
Meh, whats the point? Even if we could land him knowing us we'd probably just end up playing him in a back pocket.

There is absolutley 0% chance Cameron plays anywhere but GWS next year.

He is the highest paid player in the comp, loves the lifestyle. He is just waiting for GWS to get all their eggs in the basket (re - reduced salary cap) before signing on.

He’s the highest paid player in the comp this year. His contract was heavily back ended like jack martins Was front ended.

The problem with Hibberd is the same as the problem with Heppell. His contest work is fine, it’s that the majority of his running is at a pace that isn’t effective at getting from contest to contest quick enough. Being an endurance beast isn’t enough when six opposition mids run at an average of 18 kph on average and you run at 15. They just rotate numbers through to mitigate your endurance advantages.

It might be manageable if we had more support players than just McGrath running both ways.

Lol we have zero currency for a trade.
Pick between 8-18. * we gonna do with that? Grab some skinny midfielder? Probably, because we always do the same thing.

Last year we could've grabbed Ellis-Yolmen for nothing. Fill the void. But we didn't, we neglected it.

Anyway, * this club.

We would have played him on the wing 🤷‍♂️

He's not good. Someone has to and will get the ball. The mosquito fleet does that. We're concerned with what's effective.

Contest to contest? That's novel.

I'll believe it if he's seen having a socially distanced coffee with Dodoro, but you know this is a contract leverage strategy straight out of the player agents' handbook.

CEY had played 40 games in 8 years and Brisbane offered him 4 years, which is what they do for everyone to incentivise them to go up there.

All well and good to say we could have grabbed him but that is a huge contract, we’d probably get equivalent output out of Hibberd for 1/4 the price provided we actually put him in the midfield.

If they're available, trade in:

Wright. (As Daniher's replacement.)
Constable.
Hately.
Brodie.
North. (For Guelfi.)

Just throwing up names.
Why do you love Tom North so much? I know nothing about him but he got delisted and re-rookied last year, if we wanted him we could have taken him last year honestly

Hately is at Port next year IMO

What are we gonna give? Tell me that
