Trade hypotheticals

He signed a extra year in his rookie year but kept getting injured and wasn't getting any games so he may have just wanted a fresh start

While I hope we do get Aish (aside from him being a good player, his family name is one of the most respected in the SANFL) I do feel sorry for the guys that walked from your Club.

I think the Lions should be allowed first dibs on any local player, its one way to create a strong local culture. With that said though, you guys had glory years fairly recently its not like long term suffering.

Look at the Bulldogs, Saints and Demons - they wont win a premiership within 10 years. It just will not happen. I do feel for them more so. Add in the fact that they have had no flag success for decades and its sad and they have no realistic hope either. The Crows do have a nucleus for success but if they lose any of those key players we will be shot like the above mentioned clubs.

What was the story with Polec? Because he is a gun players at Port this year but I dont recall him ever doing anything with the Lions.
Polec showed good signs but never got a break wih injury. I wish he stayed but after last years draft I think we have filled some holes with some quality young players. I think if the lions hit another draft like last years than we will be well set but still don'tdon't have that 21-23 year old depth that the home home 5 would of been.

What would Clubs pay for Dangerfield??? I would presume it would take overs to get him too.

why cant the saints doggies or melbourne win the flag in the next ten years? 10 years is a bloody long time in football. we are no worse off than we were in the early 2000's and we came damn close to a flag within ten years from that.

In regards to Aish, the problem I see is that the Crows will be really into him and not to mention his family roots. His uncle - Michael Aish - SANFL royalty resisted pressure to join the VFL in the 80s. Sure I am drawing a long bow, what I am trying to say is that there is more to it than the Crows looking to get a SA kid back home.

Cats IMO will pounce on Danger, because if we struggle next year Danger will walk. They have been taking care of the Dangerfield family for a while now when the Crows play at Geelong.

I think the GWS and GCS will dominate the league at the time where Clubs like Saints, Dogs or Demons should be peaking.

Injuries killed him. We'd put him in the reserves and it'd be about 3 weeks before he was injured again. Nothing went right for him up here. Got a clean run and completed his first ever pre season at Port and finally got the injury free run he needed to improve his fitness.

I don't think Aish will leave. Seems very keen on making a name for himself away from home. After following him and speaking to him a couple of times, I'm not one bit worried he will leave anytime soon. Couple more years he will be playing in one of the best midfields of the competition and a side that should at least be top 8.

+1 here. for the draft to work you need blokes staying at the club they were drafted too

no one wants to go back the good old days of the zone

It will be interesting to see if Aish stays long term in Brisbane, I really have my doubts. Its one thing to be away from home and its another to be away and the team doing poorly.

With that said, I am worried about Danger walking from the Crows next year.
He has said in a news article today (it has quotes) that he has spoken to his management about extending his stay at the lions and will be beginning negotiations in the near future. While I am not saying he is a lock to stay 10 years, I'd say the Lions wont be giving him any reasons what so ever not to stay up in Brisbane.

Not trying to start anything with you, but I'd say there is a much greater chance of Danger leaving the Crows than Aish leaving the Lions next year.

Nah no problems. I actually dont disagree with you given the situation with each player. Danger is easier to extract than Aish is. Danger can walk, Aish cant.

I think the saints can. The doggies can as well, as you say, 10years is a long time in football. St.Kilda have some young guys you can definetly build a team around, and I think nailing the next couple of drafts again will build the nucleus of another strong StKilda side. Finding a key forward and telling him to model his life on Riewoldt would be a perfect start.

Bulldogs are the same, they have the midfield, and some developing talls, but need a genuine A grade forward, and maybe A KPD, although Roughead has come along in leaps and bounds the last couple of years.

Melbourne though, I am unsure about. They are coming from a long way back, both from a list. & culture perspective. I hope for the sanity of dees fans that they do, though.

Don't you think then the club then might get on the from foot and try to trade under contract ( which Danger might do as its better for AFC) so they get more value for him than just a FA comp?

Yes I do agree. If Danger cannot commit to the Crows it would be in the best interest to do deal with the Cats to try and get overs for him.

The problem is I dont know what currency the Cats have to trade, the Crows would want overs to get him. If there was a trade I am sure it would involve several clubs. At the moment the Cats have crap draft picks.

Geez thats shame lol, I guess winning the flag is the "only" thing you guys can do and have ever done over the past 7 years.:p

Envious. :(

Totally get the reasoning for this but in the face of him leaving for nothing would reason not dictate that something, and a good something, is better than nothing. Id see our first, second, and a mid tier player if you wanted.

That while not 2 x Rd1 picks is certainly gonna be better than getting FA comp…

Well it's quantity (& Robinson) for quality, I would've thought GWS prefer that over getting a 2nd rounder for each of them.
They will all be separate trades.
1. I cant see all three agreeing and wanting to play for the same club.
2. it is very rare these days that you will see more than one player bundled up in a trade to another club.

Would you look to package the 3 into a first rounder (at george2 said, if you can get them to all agree to go to the one club)?
I imagine you'd only use the 3 draft picks, which would make 2nd rounders after your early 2nd round pick useless anyway.
Would it need to be a couple of picks higher, say Melbourne compo pick (3)?

Is it really that far out? O'Rourke has had several hamstring problems that go right back to his junior career and has managed only nine average games in two years. Jaksch and Frost have shown nice signs but neither have been able to hold down a spot in a side crippled by key defensive injuries. Add in the fact that they've elected to leave - you don't have a say in the matter - and their market value isn't that high.

I don't think the pick 6 + Robinson deal is quite there but if you're expecting a lot more than that I would imagine you're going to be disappointed.
