Trade hypotheticals

Do people think Sydney would trade Mitchell, Reid and Mal for P2&3?

If you get pick 3 for frawley, why would you just not take malceski and loose the compo pick rather then make sydney stronger? A more logical move from Melbourne, if they get pick 3 for Frawley would be to trade:

Sydney get: Melbournes 2nd and 3rd round pick
Melbourne get: Malceski, Sydney's third round pick

This would get sydney roughly the same level of compensation as we would have got on the open market and it would let melbourne have picks 2 & 3 in the draft. The reason the 3rd round swap of picks is there is because Melbourne have more to loose then the swans if Mal leaves. (ie. take the deal or loose pick 3, we would still get the compo).

But to answer your question, we would take the deal you proposed and run. You would be paying overs. We would have Heeney (our first rounder) then picks 2 & 3 in the draft.

Thought so, damn he looked good against the dogs last week, was always a little disappointed we overlooked him.
Yeah we were considered to have reached for him at #27, although that was our last pick in the draft. Collingwood might've had him for relative unders in FS bidding, but considering he's a long term prospect you can understand the hesitance.

He's come along nicely this year and won our NEAFL Development Award at the B&F last night, which is pleasing to see on top of showing flashes at senior level at the end of the season.

Either our 2nd or 3rd round pick will go to Billy Stretch.

goodbye pick 3 (Frawley compo) if you want malceski then.
Eh, PSD if he want to come to us. You aren't getting the ~equivalent of your 1st and second pick for Malcho, in exchange for the ~equivalent of our 4th.

Malceski will be pre season draft If he goes to melbourne.

Honestly we will offer him a contract. I cant see him gambling his career on the PSD. In my opinion he will go in either a trade or as a free agent. If he doesnt go in either, I reckon he will stay.

You can't offer him what he's worth, this will be his last contract, PSD is not a gamble if he puts a price on his head. Saints won't want him anyway.

Its a gamble if he doesnt know who will be in the PSD. Plus, i dont think he is going to F over us. Well i hope. I could be wrong but in my opinion as he loves the swans if you do not take him in a trade or as a free agent, I think he will take another shot at a premiership over the chance of maybe being taken in the PSD and playing in a team that wont make the finals.

In my opinion, if you want him, you have to show that you want him.

We will find out soon enough.

We will show that we want him by offering him the contract that he deserves, it won't be F'ing you over, he's given great service, won you the '12 flag and you should do the right thing by him by getting him to where he wants to go, even if it's for a token pick. You're not exactly devoid of young talent.

Gold Coast with a nice juicy contract via Free Agency or will stay with you. Lock it in Eddy. If things go your way you could effectively be getting Heeney for Malcheski few pick downgrade and a ton of salary cap relief.

Why not give him the contract before the PSD? Only because you dont think he is trading for? I reckon he would take a shot at another premiership rather then a club that has showed they only want him because he is free.

I may be proved wrong, but I dont think I will be. If you want him, you'll have to take him before the PSD.

So i guess we have to agree to disagree.

I wouldnt mind the compensation pick for him. He will be AA this year, so with a little bit of coin and a 2/3 year contract he will be band 1

AA has nothing to do with compensation. It's based on contract and age, and given he's 30, he won't net Sydney even close to band 1 compensation. 3rd if lucky.

For a 30yo who just blew another hammy?

Would be lucky to get a 3rd, not a lot of value anywhere for Mal now for mine.

Another year at the Swannies or give the game away id say.

Your spot on he deserves to be looked after and respected. Exactly why he will go to Gold Coast via FA or stay with you.

The compensation picks are not transparent. If a player after an AA year got a 3 year contract at 500k a year, I reckon it would be a band 1 compensation pick.

The fact he blew a hammy wouldn't affect the compensation. If anything, it might turn clubs of and he will stay :)

Or Malceski could walk via the pre-season draft and you get nothing

We've got the 2nd pick in the PSD and St Kilda have said they aren't recruiting anyone over 22, if he goes to the PSD then he's going to us.
