Trade hypotheticals

What I think you DONT understand is .... now the nicest way to put this is .... you are not the most desirable location. Players dont overly like playing in front of 15,000 that boo they off the ground.

Mate what you want and then convincing the player to go is very difficult. Its not your call ... the player has to agree.

The AFL dont intervene if both sides agree. YOU dont have to agree to Cats offers. You might want a Guthrie but if he refuses to leave a successful club thats your problem.

Alright. Now I'm pressing ignore as well. You've become the guy on the subway who wants to shout at strangers about the illumenati. You've become Mel Gibson when he's pulled over for speeding.

I give up. Bernie Vince says high.

To get Danger?? May well be worth it if you're giving up Guthrie, 13 and 33.

Hunt has already confirmed he is happy to move for more opportunities .... its tough getting players out of Geelong. They look after their players very well.

What some supporters just cant seem to get .... the player has the say if he wants to move. You can request as many names as you want BUT if the players say no - thats the end of it.

Lake at about the same age, who arguably had a better career to that point, was #41 and a +6 (and the Dogs ended up doing fairly well with those picks). There is no way you are getting a first rounder for Minson, from us or anyone.
Try and get a quality ruckman for less. I see it as us (dogs) having the asset. You (cats) want the asset to give yourselves the best opportunity to compete once more.
It doesn't hurt us if we keep Minno, however it hurts you if you don't get a decent ruck. So I reckon if Geelong wanted to deal with the Dogs on Minson then the Dogs hold all the cards.
As mentioned earlier it is all supposition as trades aren't done in forums. But it is obvious you guys need a quality ruckman and unless you get one then you won't be challenging for the premiership in 2015. You will probably make the finals, but not win the premiership.

Was Minson not dropped the other week?
Doesn't matter, if he was dropped or not.
The point is his value to a team that needs him. That is the beauty of ruckmen. They are useless until they reach about 24 years of age, but when they reach that mature age of 28-32 they are gold.

That's fine, he's not the only good ruckman available, and once the price becomes inflated, I would look elsewhere, and let the Dogs work out what they want to do with him.

Minson and our 2nd (25ish) for your 1st rounder and a fringe player with potential is the type of deal the Dogs would push for if they would trade him. That scenario is similar to the Lake one.

Depends on what you mean by that. If you mean someone we don't particularly need like Brown, along with 15, for 26ish, then sure, doable, otherwise not so much.

I think this is where free agency changes it though.

In a real world is a first and 2nd and Guthrie fair for danger? Yes, so I wouldn't be against it.

But you'd have to be pretty silly to offer it when he could be available as a free agent in 12 months time.

I suppose that's a fair point.
I'm pretty sure you'd see the hawks pay that this year. (Or similar of course)

Think Geelongs first pick 16 for minson and our 26 pick would work for both Clubs.

Geelong get Minson pick 26

Bulldogs get pick 17 Duggan

Purely hypothetical but I think Geelong should seriously entertain trading out Harry Taylor to Freo.

He's 28. He started very slowly this year before some great form. So he'll still have value. But if Frawley comes in as mentioned then Frawley and Rivers can hold things down and Lonergan has at least one more good year. Frawley is a natural full back. Rivers can play CHB against quality opponents as long as he's not isolated deep on big guys. Then a proper CHB is pretty easy to find and develop when surrounded by a good team and with Frawley on the best forward.

Taylor forward is pipe dream in my opinion. How many 28 year old key defenders have ever swung forward for success? Geelong are better off sticking by Kersten and Walker short term.

And if lucky they could get Freo's first round pick. If not they'd get a 2nd and upgrades to other picks. Arming Wells with some proper ammunition come draft day can lead to some really good results.

Having Frawley come in and then having either Taylor or Frawley play forward doesn't address the midfield and flanker depth issues Geelong are facing. It won't be enough to take them back to the top of the pile. So I'd sign Frawley and trade out Taylor and go to work on boosting the midfield as well as finding a cheap decent CHB somewhere which shouldn't really be that hard.

I don't mind the theory, but if say if Taylor is going anywhere...

It'll be part of a Danger trade

But why would Guthrie want to leave Geelong? In a real world players get the final say. You leave Geelong if a/ You are not getting a game or b/ Huge pay rise on offer. Im 100% positive Guthrie is a required player.

Agree with what your saying, but the problem is other clubs will offer something to get him.

Any decent small defenders on the outer?
Josh Bootsma? :p

Crazy talk to trade Taylor and justify it by saying they have Rivers, Lonergan and Frawley. Harder to find a decent CHB than it is to get a mid Rivers has one year left. Brown, Kersten and Walker aren't proven KPPs.

Freo have Fyfe, Hill and Barlow, yet their midfield isn't as young as Port's mids and flankers. Arguably comparable to Geelong who still have Selwood, Caddy, Duncan, Motlop and Christensen plus Murdoch, Thurlow, Lang and Jansen. They could turn their list over quicker than the Dockers. Freo don't have Hawkins.

Hate the obsession with draft picks. Similar to trading a player such as Kernahan or SOS in this era. Both played till they were 34. Don't see a tall such as Taylor slowing down. Similar body type to Fletcher, Petrie and Waite who still have their spring and mobility
