In regards to Steinberg, personally I think he has huge value to a team. Now we probably won't get anything great for him because he hasn't been exposed to AFL footy, but for mine would be just as good a pick up as Jenkins was.

Saints have openly stated they want to increase their drafting in the first 3 rounds, particularly the 1st (last year we had 3,18,19) so what do people from other clubs particularly in the 10-20 pick range think their club would part with their picks for? I think it's likely Saints will try "player + pick for better pick".


Eg. Arryn Siposs + Saints 3rd round (39-41) for Carltons 2nd (24-26) round pick.

Siposs has had a few injury problems this year but he is a great kick and could be a 3rd tall tall forward option for Carlton who haven't re-signed Waite and have Casboult who can take a great mark but can't kick well for goal, Siposs can kick goals from anywhere and can complement a big unit in Casboult as he can take a defender and drag them forward on a lead leaving Casboult 1-on-1 deep inside 50.



Obviously he needs to work on consistency but he is talented.


Eg. Sam Gilbert and 2nd round pick (21-24) for Gold Coasts 1st round pick (13-16)

This trade depends on where Gold Coast finish on the ladder, if it's a pick in the 13-16 range, I think it's plausible, if Gold Coast finish lower, say pick 8-12, then it's not going to happen. Sam Gilbert is a Queensland boy, has finals experience and played in Grand Finals (particularly well in one of those Grand Finals as well) and offers a fair bit of experience and skill to the Gold Coast list. A good wingman or rebounding defender.

Opinions? Also any possible trades re: Saints you guys have thought of? Involving players 20-24 years of age or top 30 picks.

Pears is like the fifth in the order at the bombers, he is inconsistent, injury prone and just not that good.

I'm late to the piece I know but saying someone is making stupid statements then using where someone is in the pecking order at another club to judge where they would be at your own is equally stupid.

David Swallow would be 5th in line for midfielders at Gold Coast. Be the same at Richmond?

Key forwards (Roo has 2 dodgy knees, Tom Lee is only ever a 2nd or 3rd tall, Stanley hasn't proven he can do it and Spencer White is raw) and midfielders (we traded Nicky Dal, Lenny is retiring and Joey is 31 I'm pretty sure). You guys have an end of 1st round pick (18-20) right? Surely you won't trade it away after missing out last year, your next pick will be around the 30 mark wouldn't it?

Nope, we won't have another til 45-50, so no real chance there. Expected KPFs, would you be looking at an an experienced mid, or more youth with Steven and Armitage there and Dunstan coming on? Nick O'Brien and Will Hams are the only mids that would be even a remote chance of getting traded out for us, but they'd only get a 4th rounder max I reckon. NOB is travelling well enough in the VFL but isn't really putting pressure on our mids, and Hams is practically untried and has been injured all year. And we don't really have a KPF to spare as you probably know...

NOB for a 4th rounder is the only semi-feasible trade I can think of, not sure if he's worth bringing in for you though.

Not sure his worth, but Mason Shaw from Port was recently offered a contract extension at Port. Refuses to sign it.

He is homesick and will return to WA at seasons end. I'm not convinced WC will have a go as the key forwards are set, leaving Fremantle.

Has also attracted interest from Carlton but he wants to return home.

That's a good point actually. Doubt he'd be on the table though.

There's a bit of overlap with our needs though - we need at least one more leading forward right now and another inside mid for the near future. A bit of outside run wouldn't hurt either, though we have a few coming through that should help with that. I don't think it's the kind of deal that will get done if they're not keen on losing picks.

Reckon Essendon would trade Bellchambers for a Pick 15 - Pick 27 range.

Issue for them is no one knows what will occur with ASADA.

I've long been a fan of T-Bell, I'd love for the Dogs to have a crack at him. Takes the pressure off Minson, and we have a partner for Campbell because Cordy doesn't seem quite ready to step up.

Can't see Essendon trading him though, immensely valuable player.

I think the Saints would move Stanley on if we were to get Bellchambers, no point having another forward/ruck.

I'm not sure, Stanley's sort of caught in between. Do you get rid of him for a developing prospect or hold onto him because he could yet go to another level and you've already put so much work in?

Yep, it's tough. Richo has said he needs to lift and be more consistent but it's also partly our midfielders who just kick it to Roo every chance (meanwhile Nick has 2 or 3 defenders on him) but he definitely needs to be a more consistent forward.

Our ruck stocks are thin enough so I doubt he'll be moved on - not that we'd be pushing him out the door anyway, he's been very solid before getting injured in pre-season and at 25 his best is still ahead.

Campbell's coming along beautifully, as a ruckman and as a forward. Think the selection panel just sees more value in him absolutely dominating the twos in the ruck than playing second fiddle in the ones.
Cordy's been good this year at VFL level, but he struggled on the weekend without Campbell there, and only VFL listed Darcy Fort there to help. He'll never be a number one ruck, but if he's operating in tandem with someone like Campbell or Minson he's usually fine. Given he might take a while and that playing in the twos seems to be the right approach, I considered Bellchambers as a possible partner.

But yeah, can't see Essendon pushing Bellchambers out the door. Lethal ruck combination with Ryder, both very capable up forward.

The only people who shouldn't be traded before Bellchambers on our list are Ryder, Watson, Goddard, Heppell and Daniher. Trading him would be list management idiocy with our current ruck depth

Would happily give our second rounder for Bellchambers. Apart from Minson and Campbell, (Cordy is rubbish) we need an extra ruckman/who is capable playing as a resting forward. In fact I almost succumbed to madness and considered this type

Minson to PA for Mason Shaw + swap of picks

*would consider throwing in a player if essendon thought it was unders.

Considering Minson is almost 30 and PA need another ruckman and we could do with more KPF depth wouldn't be the worst idea.

A bit simplistic to say Maxwell is retiring here's a similiar player. Pies aware Maxy is 30+ and have similar players in Langdon, Oxley, Scharenburg, all similar heights to Steinberg and all ahead of him.

I'm strictly spitballing here, but is it? Bucks plays him possibly a bit underdone (didn't look to be at 100% even before he did the ankle) and omits Keefe who was definitely the better match up for our talls, the only reason i could think of is that he really values he leadership, intercepting and organisation at the back that Maxy offers, and that's exactly what Steinberg is doing at VFL level.

He's nothing like Langdon or Oxley, and you'd be wasting Scharenberg putting him in that role imo.
