so attractive that Ward and Harbrow left? let me guess it was for money? well theres your answer why the other 2 came knocking

Harbrow left for family reasons (i believe his family and GF were living on the GC), Ward clearly left for the almighty $$$. As did Goddard I believe....

The dogs were an attractive destination when those two went there.

Crameri went for money.

And we're an attractive destination now. On the way up, with a potentially great midfield. I'm sure if the opportunity came up a key forward looking to change clubs would love to be fed the ball by guys like Libba, Macrae and Bontempelli in the future.

On Crameri: surprise, surprise someone changes companies because of money.

Harbrow also had a young family in QLD. But yes money was a huge factor.

But, it seems to have eluded you both, money is still big in this world. We've still got money. Higgins will probably go, that's a decent-sized contract gone. Giansiracusa retiring, Morris and Murphy resigned on peanuts, Cooney possibly gone.

Money got us Crameri, money can get us someone else too. It's a matter of whether we want to give up certain picks and players.

Money talks. More than any "we're a big club so we're an attractive destination" diatribe usually spewed by supporters trying to feel superior.

Look, I'm sure the cash didn't hurt Harbrow when he left.....

I reckon you could give up a Rd1 pick this year providing you get what you want for it. You have a really solid crop of young players down there being guided by the Geelong East crew - and its gonna click soon. A KPF would be well worth losing a pick - perhaps 2 to get it.

Things happening at the kennel next year.

I think we'd probably quite happily trade our first round pick if the player on offer was the right one.... Issue is, I don't think it'll get a Boyd, Patton, Cameron, etc etc...

Even if they were on the table for a first round pick - I suspect that Carlton, Brisbane and the Saints (at the minimum) would all be able to trump our draft pick. So unless they declared that they wanted to specifically get traded to us, it's unlikely....

You seem to be the one wanting Toumpas. That proposed deal is worse than the first one.

Again, I'll keep Toumpas

I couldn't care either way if he came or stayed to be honest. Not sure how adding Douglas to the deal and asking for a later pick makes it a worse deal but I'll trust your judgement

The blowhards suggesting there's any prestige in playing for any individual club make me laugh.

You can talk all you want about what's an 'attractive destination', but that argument's built on sand. The second a nice little offer comes along elsewhere, they'll snap it up in a heartbeat, irrespective of what jumper they'll have to pull on. Where did Mitch Clark choose to go at the end of 2011, for example?

The days of the Dogs being a battling unattractive prospect (from a player's perspective) are over, regardless. Elite development team, state of the art facilities, standalone VFL team and a list with a hell of a lot of upside. Wonder what any upcoming forwards looking for a new home and a bit of extra cash think of our young midfield.

Interested to what both Hawk and Saint supporters think of-

Mitch Hallahan, Sam Grimley and the Hawks 3rd draft pick to the Saints for Nathan Wright and the Saints 2nd draft pick.
That's a howler for us, can't think of any reason the Saints would consider it.

Hands down the worst trade suggestion I've ever seen. That's something to be proud of in a way. :thumbsu:

I think it's a reasonable deal.

Toumpas = pick 20
Douglas = 20
Lyons = 35

So it's 5 and 20 for 10, 20 and 35.

Personally, I'd be happy for Douglas for Toumpas, but not 10.

Not going to happen in a million years

In my opinion:
Hallahan isn't someone that we need, he's a tough-ish midfielder, right? He's not quick from what I've seen, seems more of a stoppage player and with Armitage, Dunstan and Weller (along with others who haven't proven themselves as much yet) I don't think we'd take Hallahan.
Grimley is unproven Ruck/Forward (we have Stanley for that along with ruckmen Hickey, Longer and the developing Pierce/Holmes). Sure that addresses the key forward issue at the club, but how much does it fix that? Is he someone I see as taking over from Nick Riewoldt for the next 10 years? Definitely not. 3rd draft pick for the Hawks will be early to mid 50s, let's just say 53 or something, and the Saints second pick will be 21 if it keeps going like this. So we lose 22 places in the draft with that.

Wright when not injured is a best 22 player, a half back/back pocket hard nut with run and carry, we took him @24 in the '12 draft, our first pick. We won't be giving up Wright (#24 draft pick) and #21 draft pick (Corey Ellis/Connor Blakely/Harrison Wigg/Lachie Weller/Reece McKenzie) for an unproven tall, a type of player we don't need and a pick in the 50s.

We've said we want to improve our places in the draft (evident last year with picks 3, 18 and 19, doing some trades with you Hawkers) and we'll do the same this year. Only way I see us trading pick 21 is if it's packaged up to get another mid first round pick (or a young player who looks like he'll be a gun), otherwise we'll probably keep it.

Toumpas pick 20 and as valuable as Douglas? O.O

For the Saints...I'd say you'd have still done really well to trade Steven + pick 1 for Cameron

Agree would take pick 1 plus a decent player, maybe not of stevens quality but maybe another promising young saints players. Saints shouldn't even consider it though as I think they need to rectify there losses in the middle over the years and take petrecca instead of trading that number 1 pick. That leaves you with a very good core of young midfielders such as Steven, Dunstan, Acres, Billings and Petrecca. Also bring home membrey at have him play 3rd tall forward alongside Bruce and Stanley, with Riewoldt as a high half forward/wing. Saints also need to address their defence as Fisher/Gilbert/Gwilt are either close to retirement or have had it.

No doubt it wouldn't best suit them but I have little doubt Cameron will be very expensive. I guess for GWS, the prospect of a number 1 pick wouldn't give them the boner it would for your club or mine, they want experience and if they can manage it, a name that would be recognisable in Sydney
