Thought I read somewhere they want tall defenders that can play right away. If they just wanted a mid it'd be better off for Carlton to just give up say Robinson. Why would GWS want Rowe or White! Your best bet is a midfielder. Even then you are talking quality. There are quality talks after pick 6 this year anyway
IMO Carlton need a pick in the top 5. It's my (admittedly vague) understanding that you'd have to reach for a KPP at pick 6.
I think the dogs will finish above us, but Melbourne could end up with two first round picks either through priority or compo.
So I'd look to upgrade our first pick by a spot or two. GWS want an established defender. White, Rowe?
If Melbourne end up with 2 & 3 downgrading one of them to 6 in exchange for a best 22 player might be tempting too.

Yeah could probably still draft a quality tall at pick 6, but for a team that doesn't want a tall like GWS they might entertain a downgrade & still be able to get their man at pick 6 anyway.
Thanks. Carlton tend to pick the best available & I just don't want to see another back flanker or the like.Durdin/Lever/Marchbank/McKenzie may all be available around pick 6-7.
You'd have to trade into top 3 to get better rated forwards than them.
You could also look at Cripps/Keitel/Payne with later picks.
I wouldn't give up Henderson for a top 5 pick let alone a 2 pick upgrade. With a lack of KPP the issue, it's kind of pointless giving one up for a potential one.If anything GWS will want an upgrade Petracca is the best player in the draft by a mile!
If you want a downgrade Henderson is the one. Robinson is useless to them, they want blokes who can kick!
I think you're making GWS out to be a lot harder to deal with than they have been. Sure someone like Robinson wouldn't be best 22 in a few years time, but neither will Shaw. Hell, whoever they pick up first round this year will have to be damn good to break into the side when they all start firing.Reality is GWS despite wanting ready to go players actually want players that will be best 22. Not sure what you have that you will give up- assuming Yarran, Menzel, Murphy, Henderson are off limits

Sounds like I might've been a bit off with the need for a pick upgrade anyway.
It would be funny if Beams pulled the old homesick card and demanded a trade to Brisbane and they only offer their second rounder.
There is a reason Robinson is being traded, just saying.
I think maybe Ben Griffiths might be tradeable from Richmond. Few clubs will be looking for a big KPF who has had all the development work done. Maybe Lions, Saints, Freo or Carlton.
What do you think we would get in return?
As opposed to there being no reason whatsoever for Shaw being traded?![]()
The difference being Shaw is an A Grader both before and after the trade. Robinson can't kick. GWS have too many blokes that can't kick already.
The reason why Shaw was traded was because he's an A grader?
Let's put Brent Stanton on the table - what would people offer?
(I realise that he won't be traded by us, purely looking at 'hypotheticals')
Wouldn't offer much as a Carlton list manager. He's a top up at a good club, not a need at a rebuilding club.
If I was Port/Fremantle/North, would be offering a late teens pick and a player that is depth at the club but fits a need for Essendon. North for e.g. could offer Mullett + 18-19 if they thought he would be a good addition (Harvey-Dal Santo-Wells-Stanton-Cunnington-Swallow-Greenwood-Ziebell) or Freo (Fyfe-Mundy-Barlow-Crowley-Stanton-Hill-Neale-Mzungu) could offer up Jon Griffin maybe as well as a decent pick (with Belly injury prone, having Griffin at Esse could help Ryder). Would expect Essendon to knock both back quite quickly but it's a starting point for negotiations.
Would obviously be dependent on Stanton being up to leaving.
Doubt if Fremantle would see him as enough of an improvement on their outsidemids to justify getting him.
As for the poster a few pages back who asked about Kerridge to Melbourne, I think it'd have to be a player swap as your first round picks are way too low even to consider a Kerridge + say our pick 10 for a first round upgrade. I actually think there is a lot of upside with Kegs and think as a defensive HFF he'd be an absolute gun, hits the scoreboard, nullifies the oppositions preferred defensive kicker...which is why I'd think a second rounder ( which is probably his value) would not be enough for the Crows to move him on.
Of course not. No-one said they were.White and/or Rowe are not worth a top 5 pick
With the Hawks having plenty of cap space room at the end of the year it's likely we will target an established midfielder. I know there's been talk recently about Brisbane potentially offering Dayne Beams a huge contract, but Hawthorn would be an ideal fit for Beams given that in two years time none of Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne and Sewell will be playing AFL. I reckon he would slot in nicely in our midfield. Obviously he'd cost a fair bit given he's already an A-grade midfielder. What would Collingwood want for Dayne Beams?
Why would Hawthorne trade a Coleman medal winning KPF or an upcoming gun+first rounder for Beams? They aren't exactly overflowing with KPFs are they? Midfielders are easier to develop than key forwards.is there a problem?
