Trade hypotheticals

This is why we have been trading out of talent and into picks...... Spreading the cap
I suppose. But to me, it will be the Wards, Treloars, WHE, Boyds, Camerons and Pattons wanting big money. And they are currently untouchable.

I know I'm going off topic but I don't see how GWS can possibly keep all their young guns. In 3 years time they will all be demanding 500k+ per year and you are going to have to lose some. Your forward line alone will be upwards of 3million per year!

Collingwood seem to manage and nobody questions them!

A lot has changed since Geelong put that list together though, free agency for starters as well as players' general negotiating power to go to their club of choice. It's romantic but it'll be interesting to see how feasible it is.

You can try but most of the lads are pretty happy and want to stick fat and do something historic as brothers.

I know you're being facetious but ftr Whitfield and Kelly just re-signed and JC ain't going anywhere.

We'll lose some along the way but very confident the A grade guns will stay for the long haul!

So explain that whole academy thing again and the go home factor. What a croc.

People like Scully & Folau come off the books. If I were GWS I'd be looking to trade multiple players/picks for A grade talent. There are many teams out there that need depth - the hard thing is prying their A graders off them. Their other challenge is compared to GC, Western Sydney isn't a very exciting prospect for players to move to.

How is the father son rule a rort? It is available to everyone. Personally I love it and you could say it cost st kilda a flag...

Buddy, how is it available to us when our club is 3 years old and our future F/S prospects are still swimming around in 20 year old kids nutsacks??

We wont have one for 20 years and even when we get an opportunity most of the other teams will have a lot more available to them. You only have to look at some of the better F/S results to see how beneficial that can be.

Wait a second...you couldn't possibly be saying it's unjust because you don't have access to it, could you?

If you are somehow suggesting we should feel sorry that you won't have access to Father/Son selections for quite some time, you are absolutely having a laugh.

The AFL has given you an enormous amount of concessions to get your club off the ground. Yet you're having a sook because one of the most unique rules special to our game doesn't yet apply to you. Give us a spell please.

As opposed to Sydney with Mitchell, Kennedy, Tippett, Mitchell, Jack, Smith & Hannebery? (Apologies to whoever I missed)

My question re F/S is because the academies are being questioned. I like the idea of F/S in theory but I do think the interstate academies are also a good thing.

I do as well- they help develop kids who want to play AFL when the norm is rugby. I really don't see it as a bad thing at all, provided that they run through the same system as the F/S.

Just because they are highly rated juniors doesn't mean that will automatically transform into star afl players. They still have to work hard, like any other AFL player would. The acadamies just give them a good base to work with.

Thanks mate you are spot on!

To all Dees fans, if you get the Frawley/Clarke (?) compensation pick, and ended up with 2 and 3, what would St Kilda need to give up along with pick 1 obviously, to get 2 and 3 off you?

Just can not see that trade occurring with your recent resigning. Feel club would be happy to pick up Patrick McCartin or Christian Petracca (whoever is available). Just about a done deal that if we get Pick 3, it will be traded similar to Tyson + early pick like last year.

Steven or Billings. That's it.

Their supporters aren't labelling them untouchable. I see where you're coming from though.

What a croc of shite!

We only have 3 or 4 on big coin.
You have Scully, Davis, Mumford and Ward on more than anyone on our list.

Now? GWS would have Mumford and maybe Heath Shaw as the only ones on more than Cloke. Scully, Davis and Ward were ridiculously frontloaded because they knew they'd field a team of those guys, cheap veterans and draftees for the first couple of years.

If clubs are still stuck in the dark ages of where they believe successful trading involves screwing over another club (Essendon, Collingwood, West Coast and Sydney) then good luck to them. Clubs that go in with a win/win mentality I believe will be the clubs that becomes winners when it comes to trading. It doesn't mean you can't go hard at the trade table, as long as you go hard and fair.
How have West Coast screwed anyone over? We used 30 to get Yeo, fricken paid the Pies 18 for Wellingham! I may be mistaken, but I don't think we've robbed anyone of late.
