Trade hypotheticals

Essendon and Collingwood disappointed. Geelong very disappointed. But realistically, they are getting a decent return. Brisbane VERY reluctant to give up Aish - pick 7 last year and played a lot of senior games in year 1, but may do it to get Beams and Ryder.

Still think Ryder is going to Port though

In actual fact IMO, Dangerfield for Beams, pick 4 for Paddy Ryder, Essendon and Collingwood would be laughing there heads off!

Well I would trade JR for Bontempelli in a heart beat.Wouldn't even think about it.

What would Bulldogs want to get the deal across the line. Name your price?
For you to get Bontempelli?

Jack Riewoldt, Trent Cotchin, your 1st pick and Dustin Martin. While you're at it give us $2 mil.

In other words, Bontempelli ain't moving.

But, but, but, you said he was only top 3??
You ask a stupid question, you get a stupid answer.

I think you're confusing things. I'm talking on the general market when I say Jack Riewoldt is top 3, Bontempelli etc.

If we wanted Riewoldt, we'd have to offer up Bontempelli and Libba. Because unless we give you a huge deal, he ain't leaving.

It doesn't work that way surely. Why would JR leave just because Bulldogs give up Bont and Libba. How does that effect JR? Why would he give a stuff. Surely more money would suit him!!!. If the clubs are happy shouldn't the clubs be trying to win over the players with incentives?

You're over complicating things massively.

I'm talking that if the Bulldogs went to Richmond, couldn't convince Jack to come, and wanted to convince Richmond to trade him, we'd have to offer Bontempelli + Libba.

BS, if Richmond did that they deserve no flags for 30+ years!
If JR doesn't want to go he stays. But like Buddy and the Swans from Hawthorn if you wanted him JR would go for more money not if Richmond got more compo.

Richmond will not want to be r*ped but I am sure its bad for business for Richmond to rape other clubs as well in trades, bad for footy karma and future deals!

Yep. Dead right. If he ever goes back to SA, it wont be soon

His family name is football royalty in SA, he will be back this year or next. Noticed how a first year player in Aish has yet to sign any contract extension given to him by the Lions before the middle of this year.

Wait, so you're saying that a bloke only signs midway through his first year means he's going to come home? Does this mean Fantasia will go back to Adelaide next year because he hasn't signed yet?

These are the dominant opinions, there is little if no dissent.[/QUOTE]
Well we're not a benevolent society for St Kilda and our list is in way better shape than yours so if you don't like what we have to offer Pelican and co can toddle off and concentrate on the 10 year list rebuild to be competitive again.

A guy like Petracca is more a luxury to us than a necessity and we have KPF's coming out of our backside. We can add another one in McCartin to the list for cover and that will be just fine ;)

I wonder why your list is in better shape than ours .

Yes you guys will win flags but the footy world won't respect them as much as the other worthy winners and they will always carry an * next to them.

Last time we bottomed out it didn't take us nearly ten years to be competitive again so I'm confident it won't take that long this time either.

Those were arbitrary picks, it would fluctuate. No player is worth specifically pick 2, or specifically pick 9 and 10. It depends on the club and how they value him, which is why I said top 5 pick minimum. I'd change that to top 3 actually.

Bontempelli is top 3 pick as well. For what he's shown in 1 season is incredible. The ability to be a matchwinner, consistently play good football, the ability to play up forward, through the midfield, or down back. Add to that that he's still only 18, and I wouldn't be surprised if a club would trade pick 1 for him.

Macrae is a top 5 pick. He's shown the ability to consistently find enormous amounts of the football, BUT his kicking for the most part isn't too damaging. He's started adding goalkicking to his list of abilities, which he showed at junior level but hadn't shown much of at AAFL level. And his sidestep is special, as is his vision. But he needs to be more damaging to get more from a trade.
I'd give up pick 2, 22 and a whole lot more for either Macrae or Bont. Guns.

I'm not sure the ideal model is to wait 87 years, win one and then wait another 40 odd either...
The AFL did what they did with the latest (there have been others) expansion clubs to ensure they were able to stand on their own two feet a lot sooner than they would otherwise.

What flag would mean more to you? A saints one or a gws one?

The saints one, but only because I've waited 40+ years for it, not because it has more value..

Really? I would imagine if I lived in western sydney I would probably support them too just to get some footy but I'd imagine the multiple flags would feel rather hollow as the team would've been given advantages no other team has so it wouldn't really be "fair". Anyway it doesn't really have anything to do with this thread I was just replying to a bloke I thought had no real right to have a dig at st kilda for having to rebuild the hard way.

It's not what you get as much as what you do with it, ask Melbourne fans...
