Trade hypotheticals

Would Adelaide fans break shit?

I don't see why Adelaide would want Lowden? They have Jacobs who was unlucky to miss All-Australian. Also Lowden would surely want to go to a team where he can compete for a regular spot. Melbourne he could get that shot. St.Kilda too.

This isn't really a hypothetical trade but probably doesn't warrant its own thread. With FA kicking off I've been thinking, will anyone pick up Gwilt? He seems to be up to AFL standard, even if it's just as depth, I'm just trying to think where he'd head off to.

And is Sewell a chance to move on for a little retirement package or does he have his post-football stuff lined up at the Hawks already?

(Admit these might be numpty questions, but the mind has been occupied by just the one trade recently!)

I can't see Sewell playing else where or anyone giving him a shot. His body is to unreliable.
As for Gwilt, I think he'll end up at Melbourne on an opposite back flank to Lumumba. I'm not entirely sure, but I'm fairly certain DFA don't mess with compensation picks that Melbourne will receive for Frawley. If it's the case and Anthony gets the boot from the Kangas he could be a good punt on a one year deal too.

Lowden would get a game at Adelaide. What Adelaide want is for Sam Jacobs to have support in the ruck, as currently they are also rucking Josh Jenkins who (apparently) is extremely potent up forward but doesn't crash packs or take the contested marks that a ruckman should.

Lowden (who is an extremely big unit) would allow Adelaide's forward lime to function effectively and at its fullest potential while also providing the big body that crashed packs in a contest (they had it in Tippet, but you know what happened there).

The suggested trade? No way that's gonna happen. But I think that for a fringe player that could benefit Hawthorn, Adelaide would jump at the opportunity.

This is the reason Adelaide want Giles from GWS (who would probably cost them their second round pick)-but Lowden is the cheaper option and I'm sure with the recent drafts Adelaide doesn't want to compromise their young talent. In all honesty I see this as a trade hypothetical that has potential for both clubs.

Already got Longer and Hickey, Stanley pinch-hitting as well as Pierce and Holmes developing. We need ruckmen about as much as we need half-back flankers

Stanley has done bugger all, the odd glimpse but for a bloke who debuted 4 or 5 years ago really hasn;t offered much.
Hickey could be good but only shown a small sample and Longer has also done not much.

Golly gosh, you're right. Would pick 1 be enough for Lowden?

Essendon are interested in Lowden from what I can gather.

Lowden will most likely go for a second round pick-he's quite popular at Hawthorn and we'd be keen to keep him. The question is, will Essendon be up for trading their second round pick?

Maybe if there's a player at Essendon who's fast but good at stoppages but isn't getting an opportunity I could see Lowden+low pick -->Player+low pick.

Would love pick 16 :3 But the chances of that happening are about as big as Joel Selwood announcing himself a Hawthorn supporter

Some of the trades on here are actually pretty realistic from a value standpoint. I feel like its about bartering-seeing what you can and can't get until you see a fair deal. I've kinda tried to make my proposals realistic by asking around and doing research.

Mind you...I have read a few proposals that have gone over my head

1 game in 6 years and he is worth a 2nd rounder? I'd love to see the players you would swap Hawthorn's 2nd rounder for.

Because I love the vitriol that Melbourne fans deliver when offering up potential trades for it's draft picks why not throw up another one.

Let's say the demons do end up with pick 2 and 3.

Offer to send both pick 2 and 3 to GWS. In return Melbourne receive Jeremy Cameron, Jono O'Rourke and Kristian Jansck (or another player they like).

Would mean Saints have pick 1 and GWS 2 & 3.

GWS could find a player on their list to offer the Saints for a swap of pick 1 and pick 2. If Melbourne looked at someone else instead of Jansck, then GWS could package him and pick 2 up for the saints number 1.

Melbourne could even look at throwing Frost into a the first three players to save a pick later in the draft.

No, it's about what clubs want and they need. Trading is about getting the best deal you want-admittedly, 2nd rounder may be too much for him. But he has impressive VFL stats, an impressive AFL debut against considerable opposition, is of a young age and is 204cm and 102kg. Come on-if Hawthorn needed a ruckman like Lowden I could easily see other clubs wanting a second round pick from us on his potential, or an early third.

If he went to a club like Port Adelaide or West Coast he'd go for peanuts, a 5th of 6th pick because they no longer need a fourth string ruckman. Adelaide and Essendon (the latter I don't really know about) need a ruckman to fully implement their structures, which means if they are interested in Lowden-who has all the attributes- Hawthorn can overcharge.

Is Lowden uncontracted?

Has Lowden selected a preferred club?

He is uncontracted, and wants to look for opportunities elsewhere.

He originally selected Port Adelaide (from reports) but with Ryder, Lobbe and Gorringe arriving there he'd find himself in exactly the same position he is at Hawthorn. He hasn't selected a preferred club afterwards yet, but is keen to "explore his options". Some reports say Adelaide have been sniffing around a few of our players, but I can't confirm anything.

Try a 3rd or 4th round pick. 1 game in 6 years.

If he's after opportunity we'd have to feature in the short list, vacant 2nd ruckman position with our first ruckman (TBELL) coming off an injury interrupted season.

Yeah essendon should be right up the top, especially with Ryder leaving and Bellchambers having injury concerns. Could get quick games there
