Trade in value

So what's dropping their value by so much right now?

We're nearly at the end of this current Gen. Games are cheaper to develop now, so they sell cheaper. Games like AC3, FC3 are all at an RRP of $89.95. Last year, they would have been $109.95 RRP. So that means the 2nd hand copies sell for less, which means they trade for less.

I remember we used to trade new release games in for $55 straight after launch, now its about $38 due to that price evaporation

I'm asking what's dropping the value of fairly new releases when they are traded in. What makes a game drop in value by, in your above example, $52 if people are still willing to buy it new?

For starters, there are always people in the world that want to save a few $. So if we can give them the same product for $10 cheaper, even on a new release, they'll take it. It also has the 12 month warranty. Not everyone goes for that, and thats fine. But some people don't have endless incomes and may want that game now. So they trade a few titles in, pick it up pre owned a week after launch and only pay $20 of their own cash, instead of $30

Also, to have a successful trade in program there is a certain amount of profit you need to make. Without it, you'd fail to make enough money to make the business worthwhile. So as a specialist, you have to get it right or pay the ultimate consequence

There's just SFA money in front line games and consoles. One of GAME's major problems was the fact they paid too much for too long on their trade ins

I think that's the crux of the issue - you guys need to make money. Fortunately for you, the vast majority of people who are willing to trade in (and gamers in general) are impulse buyers, and are therefore willing to focus entirely on getting what interests them now, at the expensse of ignoring the fact that the price of their games should not have depreciated so much, so quickly.

Which makes it a win-win for both parties.

Everyone also has a different perception of value. But i agree with your post. The one thing i do disagree with is the depreciation. Games are one of those items that do drop quick

To really simplify trading in, its all about supply Vs demand.

LA Noire (out 16 months ago) is being sold for $19 on 360. Yet Pokemon Battle Revolution that came out 5 years ago, is still being sold for $70 second hand and trading in for $35

It's quite funny. Now that the N64 has been out for 15 years-ish, games have now appreciated back to almost their original rrp if they're in good condition. NIB goes for more. 2 yrs after I got Turok 2 for 80, i was offered 5 in excellent condition for trade in value. Now I could get 80 again, haha.

CD's won't hold that value though. Too much risk. A little blemish can stop a CD

Ah the days of pulling out a cartridge, blowing into it to get the dust and firing it up!

Quick question, can hopefully get a quick answer, didn't know which thread to post in. Where will I get more for trading in a collection of games released in the last couple of years - EB or JB?

Depends on the game(s). You can at least get a quote online from EB if you e-mail them.

What sort of money would I get for these?

Uncharted 3
FIFA 09
Gran Tourismo 5 Prologue
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
COD MW2

All PS3. I understand that all up they will probably be worth 10 bucks.

Uncharted 3 you might get a bit, the rest probably 5 bucks at best.

Just because it's funny, you'd get 5x as much trade in value if Fifa09 was PS2. Still negligible.

As of last week.

You would probably end up getting more if you sold them on eBay.

I recently sold AFL Live (non goty) for over 50 dollars.

Who cares just start another one, Skyrim is amazing.

And with some luck there will be DLC on the PS3 at some point.

Funnily enough I see copies of Final Fantasy games on PS1 retailing for between $80.00-$160.00 at Game Traders.

I find this remarkable. Tempted to trade in my mint copy of FFIX, just to see if I can make a profit on it (paid about $89-99 12 years back).

Not sure if this is the right section to ask this but anyway i'm in the process of selling some terrible games on Ebay but i'm not sure which packaging to use when they get sold. Does anyone have any recommendations for which Australia Post packages are the best to use? I'm selling Gamecube games but i'm also some DS games and they are kind of an odd size. Thanks in advance.

I've always used the cardboard box that is shaped big enough to fit DVDs and PS3/360/PC game boxes in. I've found that they keep the product the most secure when you send to the customer. I've never had any complaints but have had positive feedback for the container. I believe they cost $6- per package.

Sorry to bump this, gaming noob and need some advice.

Thinking of selling/trading my PS3. Can anyone tell me what this would be worth?
- 80GB PS3 Console (with all cords)
- 2 x PS3 Black controllers (with one USB Cable)
- Driving Force GT Steering Wheel and pedals (think it was $150 RRP)

12 Games:
- Red Dead Redemption
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Bioshock Infinite
- Tomb Raider
- Farcry 3
- Farcry 4
- The Last of Us
- Battlefield 3
- F1 2011
- Fifa 09
- Fifa 13
- NBA 2K12

Thanks in advance.
