Firstly I am just asking a question... please Collingwood fans don't get upset with me...

I was having a discussion with a work colleague and the topic turned to the age of the magpies list and the future expectations... he is a Collingwood member and I put it to him...

MAYBE COLLINGWOOD SHOULD HAVE TRADED BUCKLEY TO ST KILDA FOR PICKS 1, 2 AND 4... AND ADDED MORE YOUTH TO THEIR ALREADY STRONG YOUNG LIST... WHO KNOWS MAYBE A 10 YEAR DYNASTY COULD HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED...

Please remember I am not having a go at Collingwood... but I am very curious as to what other people think... Should the loyalty to Buckley be worth more then a very strong squad for 10 to 15 years.... Will Buckley be of importance to Collingwood... in terms of winning premierships... I understand he is a great captain and player... but in the end premierships are what really matter and Buckley is getting on... am I right or wrong..

Rooboy, I think you answered you own question when you said:

We might be a strong team, but we are an inexperienced team. We really need all the experience we can get without doing trade like that!

Thing about it, You arn't going to get a team off the bottom of the ladder with to many young players.

Anyway, thats just my two cents worth!

P.S. Why with St. Kilda anyway?

Are you kidding

If st Kilda offered that too collingwood, they would be out of their minds ont to accept it

1,2,3,4

Hm lets see
Dockers on had 2,4,5
Arguably
Hasleby:Another Williams (carlton)
Brown:Another Jacko
Pavlich:Carey

3 great players,leaders,future match winners

NOw if they got 1,2,3,4
Throw into that Frasier, and say green (not sure the other one).

That is basically a whole team
Comon no player is worth 1,2,3,4 no matter how good they are.If collingwood got that
Forget Essendon, the collingwood dynasty would be far greater, they wouldn't loose for 3 years

Why St Kilda???? they had picks 1,2 & 4... and are keen to have success before Harvey Burke and Loewe are gone...

Bucks would never leave Collingwood since he was so dead keen on joining them after his stint with the Brisbane Bears (and before when he was playing for Port Magpies).

Also Eddie be suicidal if Bucks tried to leave

Rooboy, it might sound attractive, BUT answer me this:

What club actually picks players that would be good in 10-15 years time?

IF they arn't any good when you get them, then they arn't going to be much better 10-15 years down the track!

Get real!!

I remember in 1993, Charles Barkly, who was a superstar at the time was traded to Phoenix for three players who went to Philadelphia.

A lot of people said the trade was even since, even though Barkly was a superstar, Phoenix had to unload three players (and valuable depth) to get him. The trade was looked upon as 50/50

As the season unfolded, Phoenix were the big improver. They finisehd with the best record in the NBA 60-22, and lose the Grand Final to the Chicago Bulls 4-2 in a best of 7. Barkly was a major factor.

It just goes to show you. DON'T GIVE UP YOUR CHAMPIONS.

How many early draft picks end up being superstars ? Not many. Don't give away your champions, unless you trade for another champion.

CJ,

Got deja vu, have you ? Hey, they're both identical topics (just shows you the intelligence of Rooboy....what a knobhead !)

Anyway, I think it's a good example.

He obviously thought that he might get more responses if he started the same topic twice!!

Well, he got few.
Not that they have much to say about the actual topic though!!

I forgot to mention DAn, that it was a good example.

There ya go Rooboy, out of all the postings, What do you conclude? (Can't wait to see the response!)

CJ you seem to be misunderstanding me on several fronts.........

1. I am not trying to be a smartarse about this... just a hypothetical question... If I was being a smartarse.. I would not admit Collingwood had a good young list or Buckley could play the game...

2. On recent history picks 1, 2 & 4 would be class players of the future... and not the to distant future.... what I think it all comes down to is

(A) do you expect Collingwood to win a flag in Buckley's football life...
(B) if not would you trade him to secure Collingwood's longterm future... or would the fact he is Captain and a good footballer... stop you... especially considering how much of a business our game is turning into....

No Rooboy, you're wrong. You're a dickhead if you can't see that.

They are the same topic. Don't give me this St.Kilda viewpoint, and Collingwood viewpoint rubbish. You could quite easily have poseted it all under one topic.
