Poorly explained I grant you that, from my perspective we aren't going to get Viney anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of making the teams after Caddy cough up more in the draft to prevent him going into the PSD by having Melbourne declare their hand before draft week, plus if you think about it and a deal can't be done during draft week, Caddy to Melbourne is a likely outcome anyway unless GWS pick him up or we redraft him.

I would think Melbourne would be one team that would make a serious play to get Caddy, if he was available. They'd probably offer something more realistic than Essendon for him too. They have early draft picks & a few players, like Watts & Gysberts, who they might be losing patience with.

I'd still rather keep Caddy.

Agreed, I cant see them off loading Watts, too much invested in him, but I agree they are in a strong position to make a play for him.

Draft picks would be more likely, but I think they'd rather have Caddy than Watts.

I've got a feeling we aren't going to give up something that will bring us more than what we've given (if that makes sense). With 8 or so players to move on, a 2 for 1 deal wouldn't be what the club wants, I reckon.

You are right. We need to cut numbers, not add to them.

I wasn't suggesting they'd give us Watts AND Gysberts. The rumour mill has Gysberts moving to Geelong anyway. I just think they'll be more realistic with trades. They have the potential to trade players & picks with whichever clubs are interested, to end up with a deal they consider as fair for someone of Caddy's quality & still keep some decent picks in the draft for themselves.

Like I said earlier, I still hope we keep Caddy.
