I really like that we don't **** around anymore.

Who knows what happened with Brisbane but obviously they were holding out for something that we were unwilling to hand over and when Savage gave the thumbs up to the Saints we found our ruckman elsewhere.

I reckon we gave St Kilda a fair deal.

McEvoy is a sizeable upgrade on Longer, at least for the next 2 seasons. He is also a better footballer than Bailey was. Either way he makes us a better side.

Graham Wright on Trade Radio has said that they are still interested in Billy Longer and have informed his management that the interest is still there, they are hopeful something can be done in the coming days/weeks.

Said that they see Hale as mainly a forward and he's edging towards the end of his career and they think that they can fit Longer in as well as McEvoy.

If we do go for Longer, what do we have to trade? Pick 18?
Why would we now? I think we told Brissy to get stuffed. If they want to hold onto all their guys that don't want to be there so be it. We don't do that shit, a happy team's a successful team.

All the best to Shane, has gun written all over him. I hope he turns into a real good player for them and this trade can be a win for both teams.

Welcome big boy McEvoy!

Graham Wright said we are still in for Billy Longer and that after Max Bailey retired, they knew they would need to get in more than just a 20 year old Longer in to help out an aging Hale. Hopeful of getting a deal done for Longer in coming weeks still.

Honestly, we should be able to get longer in the PSD.

Get him to nominate a tough, front-loaded contract to scare teams off (we can pay with franky money). Develop him well at box hill and throw him into 10 senior games this year, allowing us to manage Hale.

Mac and longer in 2015 to tear teams apart.

listening to the saints recruiter- are they trying to do a deal with us for the compo pick for Leigh Montagna? What to people think
Didn't see much of Montagna this year, but I think he would add a bit as a goal kicking half forward.

Smith, hill, suckling as wing options.

If we get Montagna (not sure how likely) we will probably have to move Sewell. Also, really want to see Lewis in a more play making, attacking role in 2014.

Yeah listened to Wright on the AFL website his interview on trade radio, one of the keys for Longer was game time and being in the first 22. That looks a lot harder with the McEvoy trade but Wright was still saying Hawthorn was still keen. We are still interested.

Wright also talked about Hale being used in the forward line more, maybe that's where Longer fits in, said Hale was 29 and that Longer would be in the long term plan if he wanted to come. Hale will be played mainly forward now and help in the ruck. (maybe something to do with interchange caps)

Asked about Chapman, no talks going on yet and Wright went on about how we already had many forward options and how we are talented in the forward line, that Shoey was coming back and played in the forward line originally. Hmmm interesting and talked up O'Brien who we picked up from SA at pick 28 last year. Mentioned list room in regards to Chappy and I'd say its a reasonably confident no on him.

Nothing on Ellis yet, no offer from us, he is talking to other clubs. He's un-restricted free agent, if he gets no offers we will look at his options.

Sewell was not put on the table by Hawthorn, was brought up by other clubs to see if Hawthorn would trade him. Highly unlikely to leave.

Dal Santo, doesn't look like anything there at all. Not really a target.

Really Really don't want us to trade our compensation pick on ANYTHING. Pick Freeman, Taylor or Garlett with that pick

We no longer need Longer with Big Ben in our team. If anything, we should get him in the Preseason draft!

Stuff the lions... asking for so much for a 9 game ruckman.

Was a little worried about our rucks even with Longer in the team, but Big Ben... thats a huge get! Great work Wrighty!

Paid a little much for him, but at 24, can see him being our ruckman for the next 6 years!

I think thats it for us for trade "weeks"... job well done.

I think acquiring McEvoy is a smart move, it's a tremendous upgrade on Max (no disrespect to Bailey) in terms of around the ground ability and if we manage to snag Longer as well we will have sured up our ruck stocks for the next 10 years.

Unfortunately this will mean Lowden will only be a depth player for us but it also means that Grimely will be looked upon to take up a KPF role in the near future!! With Hale nearing the end of his career (i think he truelly only has 1 more year at the top of his powers left) and Buddy moving on, i think the club has gone about ensuring a successful transition phase occurrs over the next 2 seasons.

Now we need to invest time into Hallahan/Jed/Woodward while possibly recruiting one more young mid (Garlett?) and we will be set for more sustained success
