That would mean we are putting faith in Lowden, Grimley, Langford, Hallahan, Anderson and Simpkin as the depth we will develop going forward.

Not sure about Garlett.
Give them a red hot go in 2014 and if theres still doubt, go free agency shopping next year

Anyone have the background to this aside comment on trade radio ?

.00pm: Good afternoon all. Ashley Browne taking you through till stumps.

The Savage/McEvoy deal has everyone talking. I'm in the win-win school for this one. Savage walks straight into St Kilda's starting midfield, while McEvoy means a fairly seamless transition from Max "I'm now a Tiger" Bailey.

LOL

Interesting to note when I heard Wrighty speak about the young players he didn't mention Grimley, Lowden or Hallahan.

He did mention Langford, Wanganeen, Jed from memory. He did mention Cheney too
Wanganeen must be getting upgraded then to the senior list.

Surely Suckling or Duryea come in for Goo, over Cheney?

Cheney would be a better lock down defender than those 2 would he not? He was good in the VFL all year. It's just his attacking game that isn't as good as the other two.

horses for courses

as this year proved you need a good squad of players 28-30 so at times we will play Cheney to mitigate scoring and say Dureya when we field a more offensive team ;)

still think Savage should have stuck around

id prefer playing a few less games and winning rather than playing all and getting flogged

So there may be an 'in principle agreement' which may see a part 2 to the MacSav17 trade.
Is this a (binding) written agreement such as if x happens we'll do y with you, or is it verbal?
If written, that's great.
As such what could x be if y happened for us?
Our compo for Montagna would see us win B2B for sure.....

last year or this year its still the same human being that youre drafting though.
He's all but been at Church on Sunday's in a huge bid to change his profile......
In the position we are in atm...WHICH IS GREAT.....we 'can' take a punt on him...then ditch him after one year if he's no good. Our current depth and position allows us to be a tad arrogant and daring and if there aren't any great options at the time of our pick, we could yet be the ones to do it.

I dont think you take a risk with first rounders especially when you could have taken that risk the previous season. We may as well draft Thorpe back if thats the case. He claims to have seen the light and smartened up his act also. There is a reason that every single talent deprived desperate club in the comp ignored Garlett in the 2012 national draft. Could perhaps justify a rookie spot but nothing more.

Just listened again to Graham Wrights interview on TWR this morning and he clearly stated that when Mumford was their target, they wanted both he and Longer together and Longer was aware of that, only thing that's changed now is no Mumford, only McEvoy. I still believe the Hawks will try and get Longer for the 'longer' term!

Depends on what pick we end up with. Or if he's still available late in the draft. What if at our pick there isn't a need basis player available, do we take next best, or punt and nab a wunderkind (only IF he has become in the slightest somewhat manageable)? A calculated gamble with huge pay-off
