Yep, huge talent but 2 years away at least. He's play 9 games. Hale will have to do most of the ruckwork and that means were gonna struggle.

Were going backwards while the competition improves. 5-6 key players getting older, arguably our best player gone to a rival and nothing lined up as a replacement.

Buddy going isnt that bad but we had to use that $ on 2 established players. Looks like weve been caught out. Will wait and see but Buddy,Bailey,Goo out and Longer in, means no flag next year.
Has it been confirmed yet that Max is not going to be around?

So Daisy and Sylvia are no longer free agency options. Not that I wanted either of them but I'm wondering if there's anyone left.

Apart from longer I don't think I've heard any approaches from the hawks that I actually believe. We have a hole in our list that needs plugging.
The cupboard is pretty bare.

This list is drawn from the AFL's most recent list of free agents I could find. I've taken out players I know have retired or re-signed with their clubs, but there might still be some inaccuracies:

The issue Hawthorn has is the 95% player payment scheme, for one it means that teams over pay B grade players to fill their list. If we have to pay 95% with Buddy leaving we are screwed. Especially being one of the first teams in the free agency merry-go-round as now we have a million dollar gap and f**k all free agents out there to get and no way to leave space and have a crack next year. Never mind the COLA screwing up the bidding process.

The system is still very much flawed.
From my understanding this is not entirely true. front load current contracts to get to the 95% hell even 100%. Leaves more to poach players in the future.

Porps and Thommo have both re-signed (not that they'd be legitimate targets anyway).

Pretty sure this is what's left.

Simon Black (unrestricted)
Jonathan Brown (unrestricted)
Paul Chapman (unrestricted)
Joel Corey (unrestricted)
Corey Enright (unrestricted)
Luke McGuane (unrestricted)
Matthew White (unrestricted)
Nick Dal Santo (restricted)
Dean Cox (unrestricted)
Dylan Addison (unrestricted)

Dal Santo has an extension clause in his contract, not sure if it has been activated.

Then there's all the delisted free agents.

Take our compensation and trade it off with a fringe player to get a higher draft pick. Is North interested in any players that have trade value and don't mind trading off? They get McDonald with their first round 1 pick no matter what it is, right? So they get a potential future first team player, a future star in McDonald, and we get their pick 6.

Big chance we are going after Ricky Henderson sounds like a good idea to be honest Longer, Henderson maybe another surprise delisted player I am really glad we did not follow through with the Thomas and Mumford deals!

Adelaide are after a pick for Henderson. Not really a fan utility third tall, provides a bit of run and carry in defence. Rather play Spangher, Litherland.

Its not that big of a deal.

It wouldn't be hard to restructure some current deals to make them more front loaded, it would allow us to meet the threshold and use the money in the coming years to sign a big name.

In fact its not a bad idea.
