I've heard this rumour from several different sources: North are seething about Shannon Grant's lack of discipline at the TOTC dinner and are willing to trade him if the right offer is there. Surely this can't be true! This is NOT just from the AFL rumour file which is just amusing fiction but from several other people who have been right on footy matters before(been wrong too! I quickly add!).

One of interest was that McKernan might be playing for the Crows with North to get Peter Vardy and Ben Marsh in return.

Quite laughable really.

Marsh unable to get a senior game and Vardy injury prone.

No, seriously - if McKernan actively sought to leave the Kangaroos, Lucas is about as good a player as we could get in a straight swap. Yes, he does tend to go missing and he can be clumsy and make a few mistakes, but he does add height and marking power to Essendon's forward line while not robbing them of too much mobility.

Personally, I reckon we would lose a little ground in a direct swap, and as I've said before I don't want Corey to leave the club at all, but if the only other option was to lose McKernan to the pre-season draft, it'd be crazy not to at least look at getting a half-decent player.

In the upcoming trading period, what does everyone think - should we trade for recycled second tier players and hope we can turn their careers around? Or should we go after the draft picks.

I think we should go for the draft picks to enable us to have a core of about 10 players or so that we can build the next generation roos around. We need key players that can win games off their own backs, and unfortuneately clubs don't trade those types so we need to create our own future legends.

Once we have the nucleus of our team, I reckon it is then we should attempt to fine tune it by bringing in recycled players to add to our depth and fill any holes.

If you look at the likes of Brisbane and Essendon this year, they have very few recycled players that get a regular game with them.

I agree Aussie_Roo, we should go for draft picks.

If you look at most of our star players over the last 10 years. Most came to the club at a young age, and most were unproven as footballers when they arrived. Very few established "stars" have been gained from other clubs.
We should continue on with our youth policy from last year.

Just noticed on the main board that the Swans are interested in Corey. Saddington and a pick would go along way to fixing our backline deficencies.

But then we lose a key forward, with the King and Sav not getting any younger it will be a hard call.

Maybe we could do a deal for the "I'm not a footballer, I'm an athlete?" He can play at both ends, what's your thoughts?

The rumours are very strong that Croad could be traded if the right deal was offered. I don't think the Hawks are at all interested in Corey though so who else have we got? They're interested in onballers so maybe Brady and a second round draft pick.

With an attitude like that, he would need to change quickly if we were even to consider him. Saw him play yesterday and he let the Hawks down big time in the second most important game of the year.

How much would we want Croad though? I think our boys have played some stupid and ineffective footy this year, and the last thing we need is to trade a quality player for someone who admits he is not a natural footballer, and only performs once or twice a year.

A Hawthorn supporter at work said he wanted to see Croad used as a ruck-rover, similar to Koutoufides at Carlton - a difficult match up because he would be too athletic and mobile for a big opponent, and too strong for a smaller opponent. I don't really have an opinion either way on his theory, but anything is worth a try when you have a guy who is young, athletic and strong, and does not appear to have found his niche.

I'm not saying I don't rate Croad, or that we wouldn't want him at North, but I wouldn't want to do that particular trade mentioned in the example above. Of the players mentioned, Leoncelli actually appeals more because he would bolster our midfield.

I'm questioning how Rohan Smith at 28 (29 in May next year) fits into a youth policy.I would have thought we may be better off targeting players 23 or under and/or draft picks in the next couple of years.

Everitt won't be going anywhere because he's got 2 years to run on his contract and his wage is just too large to fit on any teams list,unless they cut very deeply themselves,and McKernan and Makepeace wouldn't even come close!
