Why does everyone want Longer to stay but won't take back Polec, Karnezis? All 3 have made it pretty clear they don't want to be here next year... I wouldn't want any of them after they expressed a keen interest to leaving.
Probably just because Billy's manager said Billy thought he could quickly be no1 ruck at Hawks. With McEvoy now there, that's no longer likely and getting a deal done is going to be even harder now.

He could walk to the PSD but could just as easily end up in West Coast or Gold Coast.

Maybe Leppa pitches him on a one year deal and then all assess?

Personally, I think Longer will stay. I understand his reason for wanting a new start as a potential #1 ruck and especially when the premiers come knocking. But he is the one who stayed back post season and played ressies with the boys so it is clear he has a strong connection within the club. If I was the Lions I would offer him a performance base contract that gives him (and the club) extra years for games played, so if by the end of next year he doesn't fit in Leppas system he can leave.

I think Redden is the type of competitor who will keep on improving on a steady curve until he is about 26 and you realise he is an an A grader...

And at that point he probably would have been for 2 years, just everyone else in the midfield would have been catching your attention a little bit more.

No way would I give him up. It wasn't just Rocky getting played out of position for chunks of the season just gone.

Maybe for the Giants first two picks in this draft, but they wouldn't value him that much.

Yeah Redden struggled a bit when both or either of Moloney/Black were in the side. Whilst I hope Black stays on, I feel Redden won't perform at his highest level if he does.

Not at all, it's saying that pick 20-22 is around market value for an older type player who doesn't maximise his potential. As well as saying that pick 20-22 is around market value for a young, talented player that has been devastated by injury, work ethic and a lack of maturity.

Rob Kerr (Lions talent manager) was on the TWR earlier in the week hinting that Jared was only now doing the things asked of him when he was at the Lions because his best mate Brodie Smith had been taking him under his wing and doing the gym and running that Jared needs to do to maximise his potential. I feel Adelaide are responding to this and hence Vince has tested at Melbourne FC today (I'm sure he will be hitting the clubs tonight too...). We obviously didn't want Vince but we have stated we're looking for a second round selection to cover for Polec or perhaps a player (although if we don't lose as many as we first suspected then a pick may become more agreeable).
Also good to see the Crows making an effort to try and get Polec, rather then convince Polec to join PSD. I hope Polec goes to the Crows, hate Port being so cheap.

Meh, no quotes. I wouldn't be reading too much into that article. I think the Dogs are still in the hunt.
I notice that in the first paragraph the words set to secure are used and in para 2 we see want to exchange...I will wait for more before bothering with a reaction.

Sorry but I'm confused as to why he has dropped from a pick 12 to a pick in the late 20's.
Surely you should be getting Carlton's first pick and maybe give them back a later pick.
Combination of being 12 in a compromised draft and him being out of contract.

Because Karnezis and Polec are lazy, and Billy has been working hard.

Unless we can get an unbelievable return on Longer...I'd say no deal will be done....

Pelchen didn’t rule out St Kilda pursuing young ruckman Billy Longer, who wants out of Brisbane Lions.
But Longer’s manager, Paul Connors, today revealed the No. 8 draft pick could still lob at the Hawks despite the premier securing McEvoy.
If no deal can be done, Connors said Longer would remain a Lion.

I have Heard Yeo might want to return to WA.

Freo are offering their 2nd round pick which is in the 30s.

Eagles are offering pick 40, their 3rd round pick. Possibly Pick 24 their 2nd round pick, if they are desperate to get him.

No disrespect but where have you been these last two weeks? It's been all over every AFL source you might care to mention. And to offer up pick 24 the Eagles wouldn't have to be desperate, just realistic.

Sick of flogs coming in talking about Yeo banging on about 3rd round draft picks and have no idea about how good Yeo is. He was taken at pick 30 and in two years has all but cemented himself in the best 22. Pick 24 should be the starting point, he is a quality player. Don't come in here tell us how we are lucky to get a 3rd round pick and at the same time saying you don't know anything about Yeo.

How are Hawthorn going to get the deal done for Longer when they are supposedly swapping their comp pick for the Saints second rounder? I think Billy may need to find another club to go to in Melbourne or stay with us.
