Why would we want to keep Longer if he is just going to shop himself around when he's new contract expires?

Well we don't know if that will happen. Leppa might have a plan to use 2 ruckmen. Longer may improve his game as a ruck/forward. Also Longer will be worth more in a few years if his development continues on its path. We also have only 2 ruckmen on our list.

Doc for pick 28 is unders unless they throw in something else.

Not keen on Grant. A mate is a doggies fan and he doesn't rate him at all. You have to question why a side that needs a decent forward is happy to off load him. Alarm bells.

Why do we keep filling our forward line with players that may or may not work, we'd be better off throwing more money at someone like Crameri who we know can kick goals. Money got Clark over the line for Melbourne so why don't we pay overs for a decent forward and get it done. Tried with Tippett but Sydney trumped us, time for us to do the same with someone else.

Why are we all of a sudden a dumping ground for dud players?

Would take pick 28 all day long for someone who was taken too early in the draft as it was. Also remembering that the draft he was taken in was also a very weak one as it was heavily picked before draft day by GWS. Let's face it Doc isn't worth a top 20 pick ffs.

28 will become 32 after FA compo picks. Is everyone still happy with that?
I think the reason some people are accepting of 28 is because at the moment it's looking like the best option for us. That might change if some other movements I guess.

What would you be happy with? He's played very few games.

I can accept the fact that Doc is not a true pick 12 because he was in a weakened draft, but I can't accept that he is now valued the same as Hampson.
I think it's only being discussed because that's all Carlton have to offer, and Doc wants to go to Carlton.

If he wanted to go Melbourne or St Kilda we'd be talking about him being worth 20/21 ...

The Hampson-Gamble of 2013 will probably fail, though.

You're assuming he would have been taken after all or most of the preselected players had they been in the draft which I don't agree with. He was pretty highly rated at the time and I specifically recall several clubs below us being interested. None of us know where he would have fitted in an uncompromised draft but I don't necessarily accept that he now rates 8+ places lower in this draft which is by all reports not a strong one. If we are talking true value then 28 is clearly well under his value. But as we can't be choosers it will probably have to do.

Yeah, it doesn't matter if a player is worth a pick 20 if the club only has a pick 30. I do wonder if we might be able to try up trade a bit, maybe doc and our 2nd for blues first. Altho I doubt blues will part with first pick. Everyone seems to want a first round pick this year. We might end up having 3 or 4 picks in the 20's or near 20's, would be good if we could change a couple of those into a pick in the teens.

I think that's the sticking point - nobody wants to give up their first round. At this point though, if Doc is keen to go to Carlton they'd have to trade up prior to "us" being happy with the trade. Still possible, but I'm not sure how keen their club is on having him. I seriously think we might come out of it with just 28.

It's a buyers market in regards to our five young players. Personally, doc and 3rd round for their second and player.

No we won't.

We would keep pick 2 for young Norwood star James Aish.

And completely piss of other players like Rocky in particular? Redden has been loyal to the club and I believe he has been chased by Adelaide before. He loves it here and he will win our next brownlow I bet my left testicle on it

Try not to bet your right testicle any time soon. Of all our players I'd back in Rocky to be the one to win our next brownlow :p

I think u are seriously overrating Redden. Good player, but does not have a significant impact in many games. Tackles hard and gets his 20 possies, but just won't get to a Sam Mitchell or Selwood type level

Just like if Joel Patfull played for a Melbourne club he would be talked about a lot. Redden has been one of our most consistent performers for 2-3 years now. Him and Patfull are our two most underrated players

Given we have so many trades to complete, it's quite possible he wants to do the deal and use the pick 28 for another. Only guessing of course.
Except Polec and Karnezis, I haven't given up hope on retaining the rest.

Just takes one twist (McEvoy trade for example) for go-home-3 to start doubting these victorian/WA suitors. We just have knuckle down and hold on, which I presume we are already doing.

If it's an even value trade like player-for-player which suits our needs, I guess we'll go for it.
