Suns will be fine, especially if they sign players like bock around the mid-late 20's. come 5 years they will be on the way out and they will get a bit of cap relief that way, and money to keep the kids they want. They should have more talented kids than they can keep on the roster, which is fine, because they can trade the ones they don't need for more picks as stated in earlier posts.

This is why some people have said GC and GWS could be power house clubs for 10 years. If they draft the right players they will be set for the next 10 years.

I think we'll definitely hang on to Acorn (unless you were joking :p).

No, I wasn't joking. Cornelius appears to be surplus to our needs whilst at the same time we lack players with pace. I don't know how keen Geelong would be on Cornelius, but he is a young key forward prospect who has shown a bit of talent this year. I reckon most clubs have an interest in him if his name was put on the table.

What about say Sherman for Hogan though? Sherman could be a bloody star at Geelong imo.

I can't see Geelong being interested in Sherman. I think his weaknesses go against the Geelong ethos.

Pretty sure Hogan got some huge results at draft camp in the sprints, long distance and beep test trials. Although it was a few years ago, you'd have to think that he'd still possess this elite running ability.

Definitely a player who I'd be interested in, but with that said, Geelong would no doubt be keen to keep him, particularly if they lose any gun players due to retirements or players going to the GC.

I wonder if Geelong would be interested in a swap of Cornelius for Hogan, however?

Yeah Hogan is an elite athlete, massive tank. Major knock in him is disposal at times, hence why I've been suggesting he be remoulded into Ling's tagging replacement.

I certainly rate Cornelius but if he's frustrated about game time with you guys surely he's not going to come to a club where the same thing will probably happen?

Sherman's a good player, but probably too one way for Bomber to be interested in.

According to Craig "Stop that ambulance!" Hutchison, Brennan wants 2 million

over three years. Gosh, id send Fevola off in a heartbeat to retain Jars.

Hopefully we can fit that in the cap....

What has Jared done to justify that coin?

If we paid him that it, about 40% of it would be on potential, which at 26yo isn't really good enough.

Theres no doubt he's a late bloomer, i just feel as though we've weathered years of inconsistency with him and now if he packed off when he's coming good it'd be a tad disappointing.
600 -700 k a year is probly overvaluing him a bit though

Oh absolutely...it would be as frustrating as hell, but I don't want the club massively over-paying him.

Why should we worry fitting him in mate? Just because he asks it does not mean he deserves to get. Black does not get that much. What has he done to deserve even a quarter of the supposed money he is asking? If he can get that sort of money at GC good luck to him and GC. If there is any truth to this, than good riddance to Brennan.

I'd probably offer him 450-500k a year for 2 years and say "if you become elite in the next 2 years, your next contract will also be elite". We should be prepared to walk away if he didn't take it. Overcommitting on salaries can burn you for years... Charman anyone?

We have to survive another poaching raid next year as well, and we need the cap space to do it.

Agree 100%. Needs to be elite to get anything near that amount.

You win some you lose others. That's life.

We seem to be losing more than we win lately.

650+ a year is too much for Brennan, but it will do my head in watching him spin and dance his way around our players in Derby Matches for the next 6 or so years.

He is not gone yet. He and his management do like to play games. I believe that he would like to stay at the Lions but will try and get a bigger slice of the pie.

The blood is starting to boil though. GC F**kers.

It's not a done deal until its a done deal, but now that it's out in the open I don't feel too gutted. We were going to lose one of them if not both, at there was the spectre of losing one for zilch at one stage.

Losing Brennan is disappointing but I'd rather Rischa's consistency than Brennans intermittent flare.

Worst case scenario- Rischa moves back to Melbourne, his trade stocks would have risen remarkably this year given he will should win the B and F this year. First rounder perhaps even. Alternatively, he stays, and I'm overjoyed.

Spot on. The interview he did a month or so back where he was talking about how he felt some ownership of the team etc now still rings in the back of my mind. I won't believe he's gone until I see it.

There will come a time when one of their own will spin and dance in maroon, blue and gold. The world never stops turning. If Collingwood lose Cloke they could argue the same. If Cloke fixes his kicking he will kick Collingwood arse for the next six or seven years also.

I'd be happy if we offered him similar coinage over 4 years... back ending it when he's on the veterans list..

That is still about pick 43 though.

The veteran’s list salary is taken as the total of his contract not just a single last year. So it makes no difference back ending. The rules were changed a few years back.

Cheers...When did they do that? ..Couldn't find anything in the current collective bargain agreement.... and was Bowers wrong in this report?....

Back ending contracts
Clubs were rorting the system. Players on three year contracts were paid majority of their contract in the last year to take advantage of the Veteran's rule. From memory it was changed when Carlton had Koutafides paid 2.5mil in the years when he qualified for the veteran's list. Not only they could not afford it but they had to re negotiate as well and request Kouta take a pay cut. It was also brought in to save the clubs from themselves. So now its the average of the total contractual arrangement. Thus 2,1milion contract over three years is worth half of 700k on the veterans list. Thus only 350k is the Veterans amount that could be claimed.
