You can bet your bottom dollar he will in a year or two and he'll be bloody dynamic.
My point was I'm not entirely sure you know who Stringer is.

Suggesting we could get him for Casboult was outrageous. And then not understanding where he currently plays.

You sure you haven't confused him for someone else? Maybe Wallis? Because that's the sort of type a Casboult could get us. Not a top 5 pick who is going to be an absolute gun.

Am i right in concluding we have not added a single talented, skilful midfielder since Murphy, Gibbs & Judd in 05/06/07?

With respect to the likes of Curnow and Bell, i love that they've developed into hard, bullocking players, but im talking about the silky skilled, poised, line-breaker types. Lucas was drafted as one but hasn't come on. I know we have the likes of Yarran and Menzel but they are not midfielders (for now at least) and Cripps is a first year player who is more of an inside mid (which is fine). Also i guess Daisy will play midfield next year if/when his ankle gets better as he has mostly been floating around HB/HF this year.

But yeah, pretty sad that we basically haven't had any of these types of midfielders come through for the team via the draft since 06.

Anyone know if Menzel, Yarran or Docherty played midfield as juniors? If we could add those 3 to the midfield rotation, that would certainly give it a boost in the skill area.

No no, I know who Stringer is, I acknowledge that he isn't in their midfield right now, mainly due to the need to further build up his overall tank but he will be there in the future.

What I'm saying is that one of the decent Bulldogs mids could be prised out of them if you were to put Casboult on the table as a potential trade, they'd be wetting themselves in excitement at that prospect.

It really would depend on how desperate they want to be to fix this major issue as to how far up their player scale they'd be prepared to go, desperate people make desperate decisions don't forget.

Menzel and Docherty will likely play in the midfield soon enough as well.

And It will be great.
I reckon Docherty will stay in defence for the vast majority of his career and Menzel the same in the forward line. They are naturally suited to those positions and can really have an impact on a match from those areas, there are plenty of other 'natural' mids around every year so there isn't the necessity to try and transform two players to something they don't need to be.

I really doubt there are many people outside of some Carlton supporters who actually think Casboult will become an above average forward.
Not me, never have and never will.

However, other clubs (especially one which is desperate for a tall forward) may back themselves to get more out of him from a developmental perspective.

We're desperate for a tall forward and I still don't think we think he is the answer.

And a club who is going to 'back themselves to get more out of him' isn't going to risk a top pick/player to see.

Whilst I would agree Menzel and Docherty have both flagged their intentions to play in the midfield before.

We have plenty of running players down back and we need classy mids more then small forwards.

We need some skilled mids with pace.

Cripps, Graham and Bell are good starters for inside mids.

Murphy and Gibbs as both.

Curnow as the tagger.

But besides Thomas we lack outside mids.
Gibb's is the only one who provides me with any confidence at the moment.

Cripps will likely take awhile to get going which is the case for most big bodied mids and Graham/Bell are still unproven.

Curnow can't take strong inside mids like Kennedy, Watson and Pendlebury who have all torn us to shreds this season.

I only say that about the development aspect as most Blues supporters concede we just don't get the maximum out of our players. Did I actually see Mark Austin playing for the Dogs today ??

Anyways, I'd really like see Casboult on the trade table in front of the Dogs & Saints and see how much they bite, might be surprised at the response.

You did see Austin play. And hopefully you saw him get completely towelled by his opponent.

Definiftely.

We need better rucks, quality inside and outside mids and more KPP.....

We also need more marking targets up forward and better lock down defenders.
There is a lot to do....

Don't think that's an option.

Say goodbye to both Bryne and Sheehan if that's the case.
I wouldn't think so though.

We have had Docherty, Buckley, Byrne, Sheehan, Simpson, Walker, Tuohy, Yarran, Everitt, Thomas, Holman all playing at half-back for prolonged periods this season....

Time to change it up a bit...
