If we look at last years efforts, all three players acquired made it straight into our best squad.
That may likely be the way we'll go about it again.

We need a KPF, maybe a KPD along with outside run.

The CFC aren't expecting Cripps to be sitting in the 2's for too long but another clearance player wouldn't hurt either.

anyone know what your 'spare cash' figure would be going forward ?
are you able to acquire more than one who demands good/top dollars ?
are certain acquisitions dependant on trading away high earning current players ?

re:kyle martin - our board has had healthy discussions on his likelihood to remain or head elsewhere. those in the know

We have ways and means of making sure players get paid top dollar. ;)

Most will know this is a particular area of interest to me so I will put a few names down for discussion.

I'll separate them into two separate categories being players to target through free agency and also via trading.

Starting with free agency...

I’m intrigued by the free agency pool this year.

There aren’t many (if any) players available who you’d consider a star of the competition with most having re-signed with their current clubs through the course of the year.

I think it’s important to remember that you aren’t always going to be able to bring in a player of the calibre of Daisy but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth exploring our options.

Keeping that in mind I actually still see real value in the free agency pool should we decide to dip our toes into the water again, which I absolutely believe we should.

The clear stand out in terms of quality is Frawley but I’ll leave him out of the discussion as I don’t believe we’re realistic contenders to acquire his services, for a number of reasons.

Free Agency Targets (notes to come later)
1. Tyson Goldsack
2. Jarryn Geary
3. Shaun Higgins

With regards to trades we've talked plenty about the GWS boys who may be shaken loose. For mine that's clearly the number one market for us but we can't forget we won't be the only ones circling.

Despite the clear attraction of a GWS kid there are plenty of other names out there worth considering. I'll add more (as well as my reasoning) down the track but some of those names include:

1. Ryan Lester
2. Kyle Martin
3. Tom Sheridan
4. Ben Griffiths

That's not an extensive list by any means and there are others I'll add but it's a good starting point.

It's all well and good to add names to the discussion but we have to be realistic about our chances too. There are plenty of players worth bringing across but I don't focus on them too much if I don't see them as genuine possibilities.
Wouldn't mind those highlighted, Griffiths and Geary in particular could be pretty handy additions.

Why would be chasing Higgins?

Silky player, but he's never struck me as a Daisy Thomas or Kade Simpson who are competitive and don't lack want.

I hope we look for another undiscovered "gem" like Laidler who couldn't get a game at the Cats.

Would he give us something we don't have?
Can't see a Higgins/Carlton fit but someone will reach in hope.

There are always players just not getting opportunity at other teams.
Wouldn't be surprised should someone offer a deal to us for Watson and maybe even Graham.

Well said.
There are always players who due to playing style/fit will be better off at another club.
Ted Richards & Josh Gibson are great examples of players who have gone on to better things after struggling a touch at their previous clubs.
Hopefully those in charge of recruiting are able to unearth some gems in this upcoming trade/draft period.

I personally see Rhys Stanley as a player who may be better off somewhere other than St Kilda - but dont think they would give him up for what i'd be willing to pay.

I see a lot of similarities with Hampson, both have the raw attributes to be top class players and both have shown a bit on occasion but I'm not sure whether ultimately they have to "football brain" and instincts required to be a regular contributor in senior footy.

Outside run may not be such a issue if Thomas steps up but we should hedge our bets here.
Certainly, we have to look to life post Simpson and Walker too.
I'd say our lack of run/midfield rotations is a bigger issue at present than another KPF, which obviously needs addressing as well.
