I... have an uneasy feeling forming in the pit of my stomach. Last year our delistings were primarily depth players and we replaced them with players who immediately earned a place in Carlton's best 22. This year we look to be losing primarily best 22 players and may be replacing them with speculative discards. Reminds me of the dark days of the noughties where we bought in similar types who arguably didn't improve the club, just stopped it becoming a bigger basketcase.

Best 22 players don't spend long stints in the reserves.

I know we like to think of Waite, Garlett, Robinson and possibly Lucas as regulars, and at their best they clearly are but will they be at their best next year?

If we know something that tells us they won't be then why should we hold on?

Please correct me if I am wrong (or add)
Uncontracted
Waite, White, Ellard, Garlett, Robinson, Lucas.

Probably 11 list spots to be filled
9?,12?,18,21,26,29,30?,31,34,36,38?

(seriously/reportedly) linked with
Jaksch
Mitchell
Higgins
De Boer
Blease
Tapscott
Saad
un-named Adelaide midfielder?

(I like Sam Frost who has requested a trade, but no love here.) also Fraser McInnes at Eagles not setting world on fire in WAFL,
(few times named in best) but young, developing KPP/pinch hitting ruck, possibly surplus to requirements if they have interest
in our uncontracted WA boys.

All bar Higgins and Saad would require trades unless the Melbourne boys become DFA's.

Warnock thrown around by many as trade bait, I choose to ignore Watto "hate", of our other contracted, I see only
Army as perhaps slipping from best 22 calculations(don't know if he harbours aspirations to return to West.)

We also need best available kids, but I would be in favour of some speculative picks mid/late draft.
(Will throw up Caleb Daniel, Jack Cripps, Darcy Cameron and Josh Watts, outside of the touted draft gems).

Jaksch and Mitchell = wish list.

Higgins and De Boer probably best 22, but are they worth the likely cost?

Blease and Tapscott underachieving at a "poor" club, so buyer beware, but both potentially fill needs. Blease with run and carry.
Tapscott hard nut could play a lock down roll. We have some talented small/medium backs but fair to say lack 1 on 1 lockdown.

Like many, I am fascinated by the next few weeks.

Do you really think Boyd and Treloar are serious/feasible?

IMO Waite, Robbo and Jeff are best 22 players on the open market, Harks (Lucas not so much - hence why I used the term 'primarily'). I don't see any of Blease, Tapscott, De Boer etc as upgrades but rather Ellard-type marginal players. They've been in the system long enough for every man and his dog to know what they have to offer - and what limitations they possess. I don't think we can afford to bring in multiples of this type of player.

Would much prefer Carlton target the much younger Jaksch, Frost, O'Rourke types who have significantly more untapped potential. No doubt every club would be of the same mindset, but this could be the year to throw caution to the wind during trade week.

We'll see, I guess. I'm only a BF poster, so I defer to the expertise of the club.

Can we please remove Treloar from this list?
Haven't seen any serious rumours that he is even considering leaving GWS. All I can find are posts from Blues supporters wishfully hoping that he will play the prodigal son and return to Princes Park at some stage of his career.

I'd imagine that at this point there would be many suitors for our club.

The hard part is getting what you want for how much you want to pay. That's what good list managers do.

Would love Boyd like everyone else but how?
Now there's someone we would gladly hand over our first for.

From what I know, Treloar would like to come to us. How to get him though?
Hark, only way his coming home is if his missus is persuade to return home to Melbourne. Last I heard she was studying and loving life up there.

I'm sure there are other players who'd ideally like to get to us. There has been no link to him outside of this board (and most of those are tenuous / wishful). Isn't that the point of the thread - players the club has been actually linked to?

What do you mean link? Like a journo type line?

The info I had came from someone who may know.............it may not be the truth of course like with any target mentioned, but let's not get too caught up because it's only taking up one line of space. :)

Just for the fun of it though who would we rather have given a choice between Treloar and Mitchell?

I think Mitchell would be cheaper. But Treloar is a gun.

Yeah right
Ablett V Judd (2010)
Dangerfield V Fyfe
Selwood V Kennedy
Pavlich V Riewoldt
Mackenzie V Talia

Win/Win.....give me either or both (Treloar because he supported us as a kid:p)

Ahhh. I guess I'm just getting worked up because his name is on the list on the basis that the only person who says there's interest just happens to be the poster who started the thread (and a mod to boot). Mark it down as my reflexive distrust of unsupported statements, I guess. :D

A hypothetical choice between Mitchell and Treloar? Treloar hands down - the guy has the perfect balance between inside and outside and can kick a goal. He will be in the top handful of elite mids very, very soon. While we're talking hypotheticals, I'd prefer Tom Hawkins over Jaksch too. ;)

Does that include a player delisted by the second bottom team?
We need good young talent on our list. Not any more cloggers.

Not one of our players made the AA under 23 team. I think that says a bit in terms of that lack of development of that teer of players over the last few years. (we have some potentials coming through now though)

If we can get players in the Jacksh, Mitchell mould who can come through and add to our list then that's great. If Malthouse also thinks he can develop a player outside of that mould then so be it (i.e. Everitt - who has been a good get). But more players in that age bracket with talent, the better.
