Blues building for sustained success
Carlton’s recruiting team will take a two-pronged approach to the upcoming trade period and drafts, as the Blues look to build for sustained success.
Last year Carlton was one of the most active clubs over the trade period, securing experienced recruits Dale Thomas, Sam Docherty and Andrejs Everitt. Meanwhile through the draft period the Blues brought in further experience through the addition of Cameron Wood, along with young talent including Patrick Cripps, Nick Holman, Blaine Johnson and Ciaran Sheehan who all made their debut in 2014.
Recruiting manager Shane Rogers says he plans to adopt similar tactics this year.
“We’re trying to build the future of the club and we’re trying to address it in two ways. Firstly via the draft and bringing in young, fresh talent; secondly we’re trying to trade in players in the 21-24 age bracket who can have an impact now,” Rogers said.
Several clubs shown interest in Jeffy.

Rogers says if trades are too expensive - we'll keep our picks & go to draft. In other words - Dogs won't be getting much for Jones.

Matt Finnis on SEN - saints want 3 picks in top 20.

If they trade pick 1 for pick 3, JOR & Jaksch they'll still need to find another 2 first round picks. Hopefully they trade pick 1 for something else then.
Personally I think St Kilda are in la la land. Pick 3 JOR and Jaksch is more than we gave for Judd whos credentials at the time were already in the afls elite. I understand pick 1 holds a fair bit of value but they are dropping 2 spots not placing themselves out of the top 10.

I personally think STK are nuts for trading pick 1 for JOR, KJ & pick 3. JOR & KJ haven't shown much. They're essentially trading Petracca for JOR, KJ & pick 3. You'd want a proven player + a very good pick for pick 1. Neither player is proven. Imagine if both are busts.

This trade would be an absolute killing for St. Kilda esp in a fairly even draft like this year. Is Petracca that much better than McCartin and/or Bradshaw ??? One of those two would STILL be available at #3, and they will have also acquired JO'R and Jaksch in the process.

Yep, if they get GWS's #3 pick back as well then a massive win by STK. 3 for 1 & you'd like to think a pretty decent pickup for #3 to add to the haul last year & handy youngsters in JOR & JK.

'ello chaps, just wondering what the dogs would have to add to Jones in order to steal Cameron Giles from you guys? Is he well regarded within the club?

I followed his progress a little last year as someone I would have loved to have seen at the dogs. How has his development been this year?

Broken foot didn't help his case after a fair start to the year.

Still in moon boot and will need to build core strength but has some terrific traits as a player.

Smart-ass answer, Bontempelli (or however you spell it)

Honest answer, as a 1st yr player I doubt we would even consider trading him. How about an upgrade on our 1st and 2nd rd selections (which we would have anyway if you didn't tank against the GWS :p) plus your 3rd rd selection ???
