Ummm thats a great deal given most would agree jeffy has very little trade value atm. Melksham is another midfielder with decent tank, pace and skills to add to the rotation...which we desperately need
I think it's that he comes off as a bit of a wanker on field sometimes that causes people to turn their noses up at him as much as anything.

Whilst I agree to an extent. Everitt & Docherty were above Jones & Tutt when we got them.
Oh definitely. But still, we're bringing in young talent for good value is more what i mean...and ultimately these are smallish trades/costs.

I like what im seeing...but would also like to see a big name thrown in there once in a while. I guess Jones, Tutt and Jaksch would be a decent enough trade period already. Would like a midfielder as well though.

I guess the saving grace is that they're young. We're not bringing in Lynch, White or Hudson.

Oh yeah and i totally agree...seriously punchable face.

But putting my logical hat on, guys, Jeffy for Melksham is as good as we could hope for...im actually quite pleased.

Again, Melksham fits the age bracket, is ready to go round 1, decent midfielder which we need to help out Murphy, Gibbs & Co.
Most people had Jeffys value at a third rounder...Melksham is much better than that

FWIW Rogers told AFL.com.au today that pick 6 is not on the table. It'd have to be someone pretty special to trade it he said. I doubt we'd consider that deal for Jaksch.
GWS loves getting early 1st round picks.

Atm GWS have 11 solid mids - 8 of which are b/n 19-21. They will have to spread the age profile of their midfield to minimise the risk of losing their preferred long term mids due to poaching when they all hit the 22-24 age bracket.

Dangle pick 6 for one of kelly, treolar, shiel, hoskin-elliot, greene, coniglio, smith, whitfield + GWS 2nd round along with a big contract to the youngster and see whether the approx 14 pick upgrade is enough to pry one of the mids free.

Guys like whe, treloar and shiel are the ones id be interedted in, but pick 6 straight swap may not be enough to get it done, let alone gws sending us their second rounder

Normal circumstances i.e. another club, I'd agree with you. However it is GWS and they are open to such trades. Precedence was set last year

Dom tyson + picks 9, 53 for picks 3, 20 & 72.

You could put forth the case that the scenario I've proposed is actually more appealing to GWS as they receive a 14 pick upgrade rather than 6 in the tyson trade and would end up entering the draft period with 2 top 10 picks (3 & 6) rather than just the one

Tyson (20yo at time of trade, pick 2) isn't that far off the names I've listed -> kelly (19 yo, pick 2), treolar (21 yo, GWS 17 yo selection), shiel (21 yo, GWS 17 yo recruit), hoskin-elliot (21 yo, pick 4), greene (21 yo, pick 11), coniglio (20 yo, pick 2), smith (21yo, pick 14), whitfield (20 yo, pick 1)

What is happening here? Melksham? Melksham was in the same draft as Lucas and taken around one pick apart from memory - Lucas has slightly more skill and Melksham has quite a bit more grunt - both at this point in their careers 5-6/10 players (Melksham has made a better fist of things than Lucas to date). Garlett on the other hand has real X-factor and I fail to see why we can't turn his season around in 2015. I would be spewing if Essendon* turned Jeffy's 2014 season around - we need to support and develop our good players and not just throw our hands up in the air so easily and handball the "problem" to someone else!

Is Tutt really any better than Garlett? Been on a list for 4 years, only played 7 games last year and doesn't seem to be improving. Liam Jones been on a list for 5 years, played 66 games and kicked 68 goals (10 games for 12 goals in 2014)

Jeffy on the other hand played 9 games for 12 goals in 2014, and 107 games for 183 goals..

Do not want Melksham. Even with the supplements program he's as soft as butter. He does not offer nearly as much defensive pressure as you need in a modern day midfielder and he's a poor user of the ball. Under 70% disposal efficiency and a majority of the possessions he does get are uncontested. We have more than enough poor users. Do not need another one who doesn't make up for it in other ways.

Avoid like the Bubonic Plague and that's without the distinct possibility of an infraction notice.
