Yup. We're making a stand on behaviour and attitude. I also think some of our senior players don't want to carry others anymore. All working hard, everybody on the same page, on field, on the track and off field.
As it should be, it was pretty obvious that around mid season something happened at the club. There was definitely a shift in attitude and teamwork, we're beginning to build a great culture at the club.

If he is on Carlisle, then he is a monter. Andrew Walker is the quintessential monter and Carlisle is the vehicle.

French Verb

monter
  1. to go up, to climb (go to a higher position)
  2. to ascend, go higher, go uphill, go upstairs
  3. to get on, get in (a vehicle)
  4. to rise (get to a higher figurative position (socially, or in a league/division etc.))
  5. to stage, put on (a show)
  6. to ride (a horse)
  7. to mount (a horse)
  8. to bring up, take up, put up, get up (lift or carry something to a higher position)

All of the above. Almost Freudian.
It is just unfair to any kid to suffer the pain AW1 can deliver

Wallace also wants St Kilda to trump us for Jaksch. He also thinks Jaksch is a good fit for us.

So don't give up Pick 7. Saints to outbid us. Us to somehow still get him because we need him.

I think Wallace is looking to have a shot at us either way.
Wallace is a goose but I think he's correctly summed up the situation. We have a strong interest in gaining KJ. We have a strong interest in retaining pick #7. Pick #7 is too much to pay for KJ. We should not be so desperate as to throw the baby out with the bathwater in trying to secure a trade. At the same time, the Saints are in prime position to swoop if they think that KJ would be part of their future plans. Nothing too ridiculous or controversial here.

Trade hypothetical..

Christensen & pick 14 for pick 7
Jaksch and 21 for pick 14

Might have to throw pick 28 into it to get the Geelong part of the deal over the line, but with the cats vulnerable it might just work..

So we get Christensen, Jaksch and McKenzie with pick 21 and solve our outside run issues and get 2x KPP

yeah nah... not what I'm saying.

Taking 2008, (simply because it suits my argument TBH), I'm saying there at at least 9 very good players taken BETWEEN 20 and 40 with Sloane at 44.

Using a range rather than a specific pick allows us to see beyong bias of individual recruiters and specific club needs to perceive value available at the relevant pick. I will conceed that it is skewed somewhat by the views and opinions that informed earlier selections in that draft.

Simply taking the result attached to a specific pick is even bigger bullshit.
2008 was one of the best drafts ever, it's probably not the best typical draft year to use. Even after the national draft: Rockliff picked in preseason draft. Breust, Suckling, De Boer, Blair, Delaney, Picken, Pyke, Keeffe, Broughton, Garlett :( were all first drafted in the rookie draft in early 2009.

I see the Jaksch trade as abit of a crucial moment to see how our club goes in trade / draft season, whether we taken some steps to improve or still very bottom tier club. Last year gave us great hope with some very solid moves.

GWS accepting Hawthorns pick is a good sounding board. Other clubs would have rated JOR a little higher than what Hawthorn got him for, but he was very direct in how much he wanted to goto Hawthorn and was out of contract, and the cashed in with little risk for him at 19 - well done again Hawks.

Jakschs message to come to us has come across a little weaker than that (whether it was watered down through the media or he was keeping his options open).

I like him and want him 100%, but I think if we trade 7 for him (even if we get 19, 20 etc etc back) we have blinked and lost in this trade.

One of the players on the outer is seemingly pushing to earn back trust and become a better player for next season. Hint.....its not garlett.
Seeing the work Robbo is doing with a trainer in the gym and the hunger to prove himself since this all blew up, I hope we do give him another chance.

Has some high profile support.

True, but 2008 suits my agument :)

When I have time it would be interesting to repeat with 2006,2007,2009, 2010 (I think drafts later than this may not give us an indication of medium term prospects.

Excellent post Florimo, could not agree more.

On any scale of comparison, pick 7 should not be entering the equation for Jaksch. Let's see if the club holds its nerve!

We would need to move to Qld to get Christensen.

He has said that we must get Jaksch, but is actively encouraging Saints to trump us, even to the point of getting angry with a Carlton supporter suggesting GWS should deal with us or Saints can take him for nothing in PSD.

I just get the message we are damned either way. He doesn't care if we miss out, he'll just bag us for it. If we get him and overpay, he'll bag us for it. He is strong that Jaksch is happy to go to either club so we have no leverage.

Only a possibility if we relocate to Queensland....

Trade would involve Carlton relocating to QLD .....................

What I suggested yesterday was

Trade 1.
GCS Christensen
Geelong. #15

(Think that is realistic for Christensen)

Trade 2.
Geelong. #7
Carlton. #14 plus #15

(Geelong gets a x7 spot upgrade on their 1st rd selection for #15)

Trade 3.
GWS. #15
Carlton. Jaksch + #40 (just received from Hawthorn)

GWS get a pick pretty close to Jaksch's value and gives up a pick they won't use

So Carlton take into the draft #14, #28, #40 and #45

Surely thats not actually Johno?
It's a private account.

There is a public instagram account for Johnson mitchjohnson398 though. Could be a fake, could just be his private account for friends only. Didn't think he was a Blues supporter however.

He's clearly not over the whole Tampling vs Buddy selection.

I was of the belief that KJ was less indifferent as to his destination, but I'm willing to take Wallace' word for it. If he is indeed correct and we're screwed either way, I'd much rather we hold our nerve and get screwed with out integrity intact. Throwing away what is hopefully our first and last top 10 pick in a long time reeks of desperation and is unbecoming of a club that supposedly has a master plan to properly build for long term success.

I mentioned in another thread: From 07-09 there were about a dozen guns in the 1st round, half a dozen in the 2nd, & only a few after that.

So there was an equal chance of getting a gun with one 1st rounder as with two 2nd rounders (also with a miniscule chance of getting two guns).
I'd say you're a higher chance to completely stuff up with the two 2nd rounder though.

Would probably do that coryne

The only question I have is:

Are you sure Jaksh is worth a 7 place downgrade on our first?

I see very little difference between:

Jaksh, 14, 28, 40
Jaksh. 19,21, and Whiley

In fact I think I'd rather the latter.

Anybody who can get on the park 22+ rounds a year will be better than Waite. I think some people forget how much that guy got injured and suspended and how often he looked uninterested in the game.
Anybody who plays 22 rounds a year and looks engaged will be twice as valuable as Waite.

Waites best is of a very high standard, we just dont see it anymore then 3 games a year...
