Jacobs wanted to leave we didn't trade or delist he wanted to go home.
The question is, why di he want to leave ??

Simple fact is, the club rated him at slot 4 of our ruck division when he wanted to be 1 or 2.

Had we of had an honest chat with him and assured him he was in top 2 and playing every week, he would of stayed.

I love Sauce but at the time i don't think he was a clear no 2...

We don't trade for Free Agents!!!

Higgins = cap space

Waite = 3rd Round pick (so we shoudl NOT let him go, he's too good to see him cutting us up at another club)
With Waite, if we did let him go and we received pick 40-50 that wouldn't be the worst thing. He may have 1 good year left in him and I know it's rare, but we could strike a diamond in the rough.

Re: Him cutting us up, if he goes to a top club we will probably only play them once next year and there is every chance he will be either suspended, injured or dropped when that game comes along. The chances of him playing against us next year are about 20%, then you have to throw in the fact that he plays a bad game every second week and that in itself means there is a 10% chance of him cutting us up next year ;)

I thought he was our number 2 at the time. Couldn't believe we kept Hampson and let him go (even though I did rate Hammer at the time).
Hampsons athleticism and perceived upside was very appealing at the time. Unfortunately though he just can't play football.

We're learning quickly that there's little point recruiting athletes unless they can tick off more boxes than just being athletic.
There's a lot more to this game than being fast or capable of jumping high and it's too much of an investment training those players up.

Sheehan and Byrne have game awareness already and are ahead in those terms compared to Hampson who was at our club for 7 years.
How Richmond handed us a good pick for him is a mystery.

One day we'll laugh about turning down pick 9 from Port for Hampson.

I guess we wouldn't have Doc if we did that deal...
If we had of picked Andrew Moore like PA that would have been a terrible draft for us...
Gee there were a few decent players that went late in the 2009 draft.

... you linked recruiting with losing players, it's saying they're both the club's fault.
The only problem is, I didn't link them. At all. You did. Just because two things are mentioned in a sentence it doesn't mean they're automatically related. At what point did I say "We're losing players because our recruiting is bad" ?

If you feel the rate at which we're losing players is acceptable, then that's fine, by all means disagree with me. But don't invent your own conclusions from my post in order to have a crack. That's just being a jerk for the sake of it.

Or we could've taken Lucas even earlier :O
Don't you ever say that again!!!!!!!!!
Although, I think Lucas can be a really good player in a different environment.
I had huge hopes for him and loved his first few games. After that, it just hasn't panned out.
I'm sure he's gone this year and I wish him well. Sucks we won't get anything really back.
Where ever he goes, I bet he makes their best 22 and turns out to be a fair player...

Just looking back over the years we appear to persist with a high risk high reward strategy at draft and on the trade table...Yarran, Lucas, Bootsma, Menzel and even Cripps are all high upside types, same with McLean, Warnock and Thomas, we have banked on something having to go right when trading for them.

Wonder what a more conservative path may have yielded.

You said not only is our recruiting bad (which is criticising the club) but we are haemorrhaging players. Which is not only a massive exaggeration (as I wouldn't call Laidler & Jeffy & Sauce over 5 years haemorrhaging) but given you linked recruiting with losing players, it's saying they're both the club's fault.
You forgot Grigg. ;)

2010 We would have chosen Isaac Smith over Watson. Jack Darling was a high risk that year
Luke Parker and Alex Johnson may have popped up but that year we really focused on talls. 3 talls in one draft (when they aren't the top picks is very risky, as we saw)

2009 has been discussed.

2008 Sidebottom could have come into it with our first pick. Killed in in the under 18 Champs final ( i think he kicked 11???)
Rory Sloane could have popped in their for our 2nd pick (we took Robinson) also Michael Walters. Although we had Betts coming on back then.
Happy with Yaz. Can't believe other teams supporters don't rate him. Boyd talk from the main board...

Hindsight.
We live and learn (hopefully)
I have faith in our recruiting team and sometimes it comes down to environment.

I guess the best we can hope for is a bidding war between WCE & Freo.

C4[2]Yo`DooR any hope we're into Crozier from Freo? Maybe we could work something out.
I've heard nothing but I hope so.

It seems as though Freo have more to offer than West Coast.

Garlett is officially gone.

At a Swans Districts game over the weekend - Jeff's Uncle told a West Coast fan that Jeffrey has sold all of his Carlton gear.

I think we will get nothing for him.

He will either leave us as late round pick (something meaningless), or head into the PSD and find his way to West Coast (other teams won't touch him given his state at the moment).
