Geez people are under rating Broady massively.

Broadbent is worth a late first rounder and significantly more than Young at this stage.

IMO:
Hartlett: 6-8
Broadbent: 15-20
Young: 25-30
Lobbe: 25-30
Jonas: 35-40
O'Shea: 35-40
SGray: 50-55
Ah Chee: 75+
that was the minimum what i would let them go for. Young is less replaceable medium-long term

Probably a unfashionable opinion, but I'd rather keep O'Shea over Broadbent. Think he offers more/gives us more options. Just needs a healthy dose of confidence. I don't hate Broady by the way, but he is probably the most easily replaceable guy in our team.
Wait a minute. For years we complain we dont have big bodies that can stand over the ball and then one of the only couple in our side who has a big body and uses it effectively in Broady you'd get rid of instead of old fumble fingers O'Shea??? O'Shea can run and he can intercept mark. Put the ball on the ground and he is as soft as a marshmallow and gets bumped off way too easily. Broadbent has one of the best grabs in our team, is hardened and strong in the contest, has a significantly better kick and offers more around the ground.

Im sorry Papa, but people are losing the plot in these threads.

Bonner can pretty much replace Broady already

Ahchee is lucky not to be delisted, i dont see how we can claim he has any value.

Sam Gray is a very mediocre dime a dozen mid who goes missing when the pressure is on, lacks any real speed and the majority of his possessions are just bang it on the boot type stuff. He's the type of player we need to be replacing with our pick 9 this year which MUST be a midfielder.

It's irrelevant anyway, these guys arent going anywhere.

Also think our selection policy may contribute to it. Our "stars" don't get dropped when they're out of form. Geez even O'Shea after the Carlton debacle wasn't dropped, these players are in cruise control.
How O'Shea wasnt dropped after the Carlton game will forever remain a mystery. Disgraceful

People have their favourites, but Broadbent is a player that is being discussed in terms of a tradeable player, as is O'Shea. Both are back flankers, although different type of players (as you point out). I personally think O'Shea's attributes are slightly above Broady's as they are somewhat harder to come by, but others, like you, will disagree.

Arch is only 22, he showed some real quality the year before. I'd hate to lose him for a token pick.

I'd give him another year and make a decision on him in 12 months time.

As for Sammy Gray I wouldn't trade him either. A few clubs have been interested in him so if he was to be traded for a 4th rounder that would not be a great result.

Jonas is a hard-nosed defender I do not want to lose. period
Trouble with Tom is he is a terrible kick, not quick and does not offer any attacking options out of defence (no upside). Sure he could be depth but I feel we must move past that and develop a "hawthorn" type defence. We are now starting to get there with Hombsch, Austin, Clurey, Pittard, Bonner (early days I know), DBJ who can ALL kick plus Trengove but not a great kick as we know. Just don't think we need Jonas and if we get a 2nd round pick 20 I would take it. HBF can created as an example Mills from Swans was drafted as a mid then wins rising star playing HBF

Can suck it!
Going to Sydney is a brilliant career move for anyone. Someone like Broadbent has been a non descript plodder in our rubbish system for 8 years but you just know the Swans would turn him into Grant Birchall overnight.
Agreed. I'm not sure if there has been a more poorly coached player in the league over the last few years. Remember mid last year when we were trying to play 11 defenders in the same team and even though 8 of them were worse footballers than Matthew Broadbent he was pushed into this weird not quite half back/not quite midfield role and a few weeks later was dropped. ****.

I'm not making excuses for his pea hearted performances over the past two years but in 2012 he was a midfielder and played well. In 2013 he was a defender and played well. In 2016 I don't know what position he plays or what the purpose of whatever that role is.

I have little confidence that we won't bugger up the development of whoever we draft to replace him but at least they will be a fresh start and not on a long term contract.

This is where we get in trouble. He's 22 and not in our best 22, good clubs make a decision and cut their losses not waste time on something that might happen. Same goes for O'shea, at his age he should be firmly in our 22 but we persist with a O'shea, Stewart, Jonas merry go round.

Its concerning we persist with fringe players for so long, particularly when there has been interest from other clubs in the past.

i think Broadbent should be a midfielder. & i feel he would be a better mid than any of the others mentioned above as trade bait.

O'Shea at 24 isnt best 22 so trade him, Arch at 22 I think gets 1 more chance.

Stewart isn't but because Carlile retired we must keep him as backup. Jonas is best 22.

would you do a straight swap of Jack Riewoldt for Hartlett?
No. Isn't he 29 or something? And this entire episode is purely about getting into the very top end of the draft and rejuvenating the list with some top end YOUNG talent. It's not about trading in top up players for a tilt at the premiership. That's the whole point. We've given away picks for Ryder and Dixon, now is the time to plant some seeds.

We do know that's what's going to happen but here he stays a b grade plodder so we lose either way. We need another ruck may as well get Nankervis

Jack is 27, Hamish is 26. 1 is a gun forward, the other is an underperforming midfielder. Straight swap you'd do it everytime! Problem is Richmond would want more in return.

What you or I want doesn't matter. We wouldn't even be putting Hartlett on the table if we weren't looking for very high draft picks. That is the one, the only reason he's there now.

If we could get Tom Lamb for cheap, I'm interested. Sure, the whole no dickhead policy thing that someone came up with out of thin air and then everyone ran with like it was made official, but he's got talent and he's a mobile 192cm forward who could even maybe pinch hit in the midfield.

He's only two years into his career, so still young.
