If anyone has been following Nicholls and GC at all you would know that the reason he could be available and isn't really cemented in that ruck role at gcs this season is because he can't play outside the ruck, can only play as a lone ruck. Why bring him in the suffer the same problem we had with lobbe and Ryder all over again but minus the first round pick we would have to give up for Nicholls ?
Because he may be able to actually ruck, unlike Lobbe.

Ken went up to the GC to have a chat to a possible trade while in the middle of preparing for a vital home game against GWS? Get your hand off it.
Yesterday was Tuesday, we don't play until when ah Sunday, so why not. Coaches travel all over the country all the time for different reasons, it's only a few hours on a plane. Oh by the way, last time i checked there was a hand on it but it wasn't mine. :p

I didn't say that, i said Lobbe. Who knows ken knows him so he may have been just catching up hey.

The point is it doesn't matter whether he is a better ruck than lobbe or not. what matters if we are bringing in a ruckman is how does he work with Ryder. Can he play outside the ruck ? If no then are we going back to the can we play lobbe Ryder conundrum where we learned that Ryder is a better 1st ruck sometimes forward than mostly forward 2nd ruck.

I get what what you are saying and agree with you, i am only stating what i heard but you hear all sorts of rumours this time of year, so i will take it as just that for now, a rumour.

Are there other teams?
Our dream trade would be a different Sun, Dion Prestia. Likely to seek a trade and looking to find a club "in the window". He fits the bill exactly on what we want- a hard nut clearance machine (was 2nd in the AFL for average clearances in 2015) to share the load with Ollie.

Reports earlier in the year said he wanted a Victorian club but those supposedly interested (Carlton, Richmond, Melbourne) won't get him any short term success. And there's the Ken factor and, maybe, the Charlie factor.

Of course he would cost us our first pick, but that should be all given his knee problems over the last few years.

Personally, if we got Prestia in trade week 2016, I'd be booking flights to Melbourne for the 2017 Grand Final immediately.

Now he would be a nice pick up.

As if Kern would board a flight to go and talk to Tom Nicholls exclusively while the season is still going. That sort of trip is reserved for recruiting star players.

Now Jaeger O'Maera...you might want to go talk to him and see how the knee is holding up before you start considering what it would take to get him. It would be either him or Prestia that he went and had a chat to primarily - Nicholls would have just been a smokescreen so people didn't post about it on forums like this.

In fairness he was there on personal business, apparently.

Or it's just BS that he was there at all.

Why would Nicholls come to Port? Surely he would get more money and is the number one ruck at GCS.

My understanding is the Ken is in close contact with a number of Geelong and Suns players that he coached, not sure much can be read into it.
I would like Kern to concentrate on coaching. Leave the recruiting up to recruiters.

Agreed, it's the coach's job to set out the type of player and the recruiters job to find them. I was just making the point that Ken supposedly is in close contact with a number of past players and him talking to them doesn't mean we are trying to recruit them.

I'd never choose a job based on the HR team i dealt with. I have would if i was impressed by my future boss.

Sure

So as an investor in a company you would be happy for your CEO to be the first point of contact and flying out to recruit around the country? Cause that is what you are advocating in this context

I'm not naming a target, but I'd hope that when we trade this year we do it on the cheap, like Adelaide did when they got Jenkins, trading pick 31 for Jenkins and 41. As we haven't got a second this year it may be a bit more complicated for us to do any trade. I certainly don't want the first to be traded again.

I think you'll find that Kieth is the CEO. Ken is the coach, and the players are his direct responsibility.

He sits in on draftee interviews. I would expect no less when interviewing a prospective trade.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Ken is the first point of contact either. That would obviously be list manager to player manager. If anything, ken's involvement is to seal the deal, ala matt white.

????

This is going sideways

Someone stated Hinkley was at GC wooing Nicholls. This was called bs as why would a coach be up there mid week between games talking to a player. Obviously players would speak to prospective coaches at some stage into a process but no way would it be first or even early on.

Don't kid yourself that recruiting is only done in trade week or even in the same season. Clubs are into players for years even from the time they're drafted. Just because there's talk now of some contact doesn't mean this hasn't been going on for a long time. Doesn't mean there's anything to this Nicholls talk but don't discount anything because you think you know a timeframe.

McDermott reckons right club with Sydney, wrong player - we should target Gary Rohan, who is out of contract at the end of the year.

Say what you want about him, but he's spot on IMO. Rohan is exactly what we need. Fast line breaker that can plug into a number of roles coming off the bench. White needs a rest? Send Rohan in. White is back on but Pittard or DBJ is off now? Put him down back. Young is required in the midfield? Rohan goes up forward.

He's related to Kern too, isn't he?
A big yes from me. One of my favourite non Port players and he's Kenny's cousin
