We know who we want to deal with, not sure we need to attend. With Reid based in Melbourne I'm sure he'd be on the phone quite often
You still need to know what your up against. Other clubs will be looking to trade for the same things we are. I am sure this specific meeting is not that big of a deal. But just on the issue of participation vs non-participation, we absolutely need to know what the other clubs are doing. I am sure we do though. I think Hamish deserves some credit here.

Why would being in Melbourne mean he is on the phone more often? AFC can’t afford interstate phone calls now maybe.

You can have Bolton for pick 25 or straight swap for Lachlan Murphy.

Not sure why we need Bolton - not exactly setting the world on fire. Plus, the bloke can't kick to save his life. Check the GWS game.. Then again, the standard of AFL players kicking goals inside 35m isn't exactly elite either.. so guess that debunks my point straight away, lol.

Just out of interest just went back and watched Aaron Francis' 2015 National Champs highlights. I can see why Essendon fans would have so much trouble letting go of him. That Vic Metro game could well be the most dominant performance i've ever seen in a U18's game.

Also worth watching just to see how skinny Wayne Milera was as a Jnr. Looked like he was about 60kg soaking wet!

I would happily hand over our first round pick for next year for Fantasia, doubt Essendon would..
If we arent in a position to take Rankine or Lukosious, I would hand over our first this year. I am a huge fan of this kid. But having said that, if his contract runs out next year, we should just wait the extra year and bring him over next year.

I don’t know, if Fantasia wants to come home I would do it this year. A few reasons:

1) he would assist us greatly in 2019
2) he may change his mind in a year
3) even if he’s out of contract he’s going to cost us, no one slips through to the PSD anymore. Might as well pay it this year

Agree. Especially point 1, he is exactly what we are missing for a genuine shot at it next year. As to point 2, he may change his mind in a year, but if he knows that Essendon seriously thought about trading him the previous year that may keep the door open. We would still have to pay next year, but 2018 is a bumper year for SA talent so next years picks are worth less to us (at this stage).

But like you said, get it done this year.

Yes. At the very least, we should do all the wooing, wining and dining this year so that he and his agent are well aware of our desperate interest. Leaving it until this time next year would be stupid.
