I’m OS ATM so have missed this. Where has this come from?
The last pre game club function I attended it was mentioned that contract extension talks had started and I know players can often tow the party line but the last time I bumped into Raz he mentioned that Melbourne was now his home, the team is very tight knitted and he loves it at the club. This was a couple of months ago now so perhaps his situation has changed. Would hate to lose him as he is probably close to our most important player but I do understand that in this age of player movement if he really wants to go home there isn’t much we can do about it
It's 5AA, dude. Of course we'd have interest in Fantasia, but he's not leaving you guys. Relax.

Worse kept secret.

Should have come out as soon as he was injured & wouldn't play again.

So which Victorian club already has him stitched up? Pies?
I reckon Richmond is his preference. Sets them up for a bit of a dynasty if he heads there IMO

Well I'd rather a Richmond dynasty than a Collingwood one....

Ok so if people have word that Carlton are taking Walsh with 1 and GC taking King x2 with 2 and 3, Luko could slip to 4.... maybe even 5 If Stkilda are spooked by the disaster that was Mcartin. Pick 4 or 5 seems alot easier to obtain when we already have pick 8, 13, 20ish.....

Or it messes with a good thing and ends a dynasty after just 2 years. Having Lynch changes the dynamic of the team considerably. It could even lead to a knock on effect like letting Short go. Would love for them to go into next preseason with a change of structure to accomodate Lynch and Riewoldt. Hopefully it actually does upset the apple cart.

They re-signed Short today.

Ok. But will they hold on to all of them. Will they look to trade one or upset players by asking them to go to the Gold Coast in trade. Many things can happen as a result of this. Just saying it could backfire on them.
They won't have to trade with GC. Nothing they can offer comes close to pick 3 compo. If they offer Lynch a 6 year deal and say offer $1.2 million they can probably pay him $700-$800K for the first couple of years and then bookend the rest when Grigg, Houili, Edwards, Riewoldt, Rance and Cotchin are gone or 30+ and not commanding huge deals anymore.

They'll probably lose some depth like Miles and Bolton this year, but they can just replace them with draftees and hope they don't need them immediately.

That will throw a few spanners in the works come trade time. With pick 2&3 do you think they would take Lukosius and Rankine or will this hurry the Crows into trying to get a deal done with the Suns?
I think we go at them with 8 and 19, or 8 and a senior player to get 2 or 3.

They will want players, and I think 2 will be enough for Lukosius and certainly Rankine.

Particularly if they can get by with pick #8 for the 2nd King twin, using #2 on the 1st.

Or maybe the King twins?
As a thought and I know its a waste of computer space but now Lynch has gone the 2 King boys become a priority but not as much as a ready made 28 yr old Forward/Ruck that is averaging 40 goals a year the last 3 ;)

Surely they can't play the homesick card if they are both there
They may try and find a different way to get them. I think their (Gold Coast) priorities have to change. Losing a good aged forward and replacing them with an ACL prone rookie is not going to get them back on track

Maybe. If it’s collingwood, somebody on the main board mentioned Thomas, who is a Queenslander as part of the trade. I think that’s the best outcome for GC. Even Thomas plus Collingwoods 1st is probably close to pick 3 for them (factoring in overs in the value of actually getting a player to agree to go there). Not sure if Richmond have any decent Queenslanders, but even a best 22 and two firsts would be something they may ask for. If Richmond let him go to the draft he will be a Carlton or Saints player next year.

Thomas & pick #16 ish is worse than compo pick #3.

If GC hang out for more than #3, then they will probably want next year's 1st rounder involved in the trade too, as Pies 2nd pick this year won't be til around #46.

In terms of points that values Thomas at pick 14. Considering they paid pick 2 for Weller that’s a bargain. Thomas is very good. He is to a Queensland team what Fantasia is to us. Of course they can try to get more. If you take away the fact that players wanting to go to the Gold Coast come at a huge premium then they could ask for the 2019 first as well. Maybe give a third back. GC have huge power in this one. But taking into account that premium, I personally think Thomas + 16 is better than 3 for them.

If by a miracle he's not taken at 1, put the toolshed on him being taken at 2

Lol, you don't compare the poor trading of #2 for Weller to justify the giving up of #3 for Thomas & a late 1st rounder.

This is a strong draft at the top, so effectively giving up a gun for 2 ok players. That's a dumb deal... Particularly when they already have a stack of decent picks with #2, #3, #18, #27 & #30 if they accepted compo.

If Gold Coast hold out for a better deal, they will want it to be significantly better, not worse than #3 compo!

Eg. Thomas, #16 & 2019 1st rounder for Lynch & #29.

I think you are under-rating Thomas a fair bit there. But also not taking into account there are probably no other players in the AFL that are of his quality or better and are also willing to go to the Gold Coast.

But as I said, if you don’t take into account that factor, what you proposed is pretty much what I stated (3rd vs 2nd going back). But in reality having a player willing to go to the Gold Coast has huge value. We paid 2 firsts for a 29 year old Gibbs after all.
