I know this is a bad idea

Gee.. great detailed rebuttal..

If you couldn’t be bothered why even respond?

Anyway, my justifications;

Their first this year + first next year + a player?..

Lynch is definately worth two firsts... why not demand an average player too?... especially if it’s the tigers who have some pretty good players that can’t get a game..
Richmond have at most 2 late firsts, that is worth a lot less than pick 3

Who are these good players that can’t get a game who are prepared to move north?

It would need to a very good player in the 22 to make 2 Richmond firsts worth more than pick 3

If they simply settle for pick 3 and that will pretty much restrict them from getting anything more than one untried yet potentially great player.. won’t be able to use their mountains of cash to chase any FRee agents because that could threaten their lynch compo pick...

What doesn’t make sense in this sentence Hammond?
All of it. The other free agents are garbage and they can still trade

And if they don’t match for lynch.... and he goes to the tigers or Collingwood on a deal less than a million a year?... what if he’s told either of those clubs that he’s not after big dollars and 800k a year will keep him happy and he also doesn’t want to come in and instantly being one of their highest paid players like Dangerfield did when he went to Geelong ..

Compo pick may end up end of first round...

Compo pick is based on the size of the contract the FA gets is it not?... so if he is only going to a vic team on 800k because that’s what he requests then the “pick 3” compo pick will definately be at risk

I think suns may match.

Just my opinion... this is, after all, an opinion site..
In what magical world do you imagine Tom Lynch is taking a lower contract? Have you seen anyone, literally anyone, suggest this

The AFL will confirm what compensation would be assigned before Suns have to decide.

There is nothing in this world to suggest they’ll get less than band 1. It’s magical thinking to believe different

All a bit far fetched

Well... atleast this time you presented an arguement!

Like I said.. we’re all giving our opinions here. If you disagree with someone’s opinion, at least present your reasoning!..

Who knows how much money tom is chasing for his next contract but it’s definitely not outside the realms of possibility that he’s told possible suitors that he’s not looking for a million dollar a year contract and rather looking for a spot in a contending team.. Dangerfield did it.. many players accept unders in preference for success. So it’s hardly far fetched.

Sure, two late firsts is worse than pick 3, but pick 3 isn’t exactly a guaranteed lock at this point.. anything could happen.

Yes... The remaining free agents aren’t exactly superstars.. although gaff isn’t too bad.. but still, having to trade for them means losing picks.

While the Tigers have been arguably the favourite to secure Lynch’s services, AFL 360 co-host Mark Robinson said the star forward would have to sacrifice significant dollars to join Richmond.

“It was bandied around mid-year $1.5 million. That is not happening,” the chief football write of the Herald Sun told Fox Footy’s AFL 360.

“If he signs at Richmond, in my opinion and who I’ve spoken to, it will be less than $1 million.

“That’s a $500,000 drop from April to the start of August.”

Less than a million?

Practically a missionary. Will still easily get band 1

Thoughts on having a crack at ORourke?

ONo.

Dude is a failed high draft pick at two clubs. He's done, and has no future at an AFL level.

Can't trade both 1st & 2nd in the same year.
Yes you can.

Just can't trade future 1st & 2nd rounder, but no problems with the current year... unless you haven't met your quota of using 1st rounders... unless you are Geelong & the rules don't apply.

If I was the Gold Coast Id say **** it, we'll match and if Richmond or Collingwood don't give us a kings ransom 3 1st rounders and a player you can go to the draft and play at Carlton.
I just want to see any club other than us do that. The AFL can even step in and give them R1 compo and I would still be happy. That way they sort out Carlton and Suns in one go :)

If GC dont match they could risk losing pick 3 compo if they throw money at other FAs such as George Horlin Smith, Hoili, Grigg, Dahlhaus, Fasolo, Wallis.

I hope they match just for the popcorn drama in trade period.

Knowing our luck, any trade for Lynch will effect our ability to complete our own trade/s.

Doubt we are going to be a major trader this year.

But if Lynch does choose Collingwood & GC force a trade, then Kelly may struggle to get to the Pies.

Something smells at Richmond with players taking pay cuts and if Lynch wants to go there for unders. There must be some nice 3rd party agreements as it is unnatural to take cuts when you go to another club on overs. Does the AFL investigate Melbourne clubs anymore.

I was told of a Melbourne property developer with many large multi storey apartment developments in Melbourne and starting in North America "mentoring" Richmond players who are interested in investing in property development.

That’s how they kept Dusty from North. I think even Ricky Toot Toot explained it quite well how they structured it, where he would actually earn several hundred thousand extra by going to Richmond for less money....

Here's hoping the market crashes.
