If we are going to trade #1, the buyer is going to have to pay a decent price IMO because we would be giving up a very sought after commodity.
Well the offer was pick 4 plus a player that you wanted 2 years ago. It’s better than anything I could come up with. Good chance that deal gets you Walsh and Atkins, versus taking just Walsh with pick 1. Suns to take King brothers in that assumption.

Let's put a substantial offer to Bamford to become our Chief Development Manager with a pathway for him to grow .

Not only would he be excellent in a crafted and well paid role but we most likely would have some nice homecomings over the next few years.

His equity would repay the club handsomely over time .
I thought this last night as well. Then give him the time to coach SA. Though conflict of interest might get raised

You don’t need 1. You need ready made players who can come in and stop you being a laughing stock.

Trade 1 to us for McGovern plus extras.

Sign Gaff as a FA which he’ll only do if you can assure him he’s not signing up to win wooden spoons and babysit teenage footballers for the rest of his career.

Probably need one more genuine talent.

Add those 3 and you start to look decent and all it costs you is pick 1. Remind me how successful your pick 1’s have been before?

Let him coach U/18 through next year and spend 2019 crafting a role for him ... this gives him a chance to grow even more with experience whilst transitioning a new coach with Brenton Phillips to take over in 2020 . it also gives the Crows one more year of his connection to the treasure .

Simply put an offer to him that is to good to refuse ... 3 + years well paid Director of Development . Some good local players coming out of contract in 2020 and 2021 and that is when we will be sending our old boys off to the retirement village and we should have some nice cap space to go hard .

Collingwood and Buckley were very savvy by sending him off to coach the AIS Academy kids for 2 years to broaden his coaching and communication skills with the new generation .... forging bonds and formulating which players to target when GWS had to turn parts of their list over .
Treloar , WHE , Adams plus an inside look at underage kids in Grundy , Broomhead , Scharenberg and Aish .

Get it done Crows .

Oh shock me! A decent price for a sought after commodity! What other pearls of economic wisdom have you to share?

Sticks only stood down from the role this year so why not him?

Absolutely ... the transition in their partnership has already started so it is a good option .
The reason i was leaning toward toward Bamford is that he is hungry and at a different stage of of his life.
A good solution would be to have Sticks define the role for a couple of years and then hand over again to Bamford .
That timing would work for all parties if that was something they could see value in , i certainly do .
What do you think Bicks ?

We need a ruckman, would Jordan Roughead be worth a shout ?? Capable of decent footy but has injury troubles.
Trade JJ to Brisbane as part of a bundle for their 1st and bring in Roughead as an RFA. Should be able to get Rankine for that pick. Brisbane will only have pick 5. I think JJ is worth a 7 pick downgrade on pick 5. Points wise, that is a pick in the 30s. But practically, it does value JJ a lot higher. Even better if we can trade JJ to Gold Coast for the same bundle for pick 3.

I think you're going to find Brisbane being very much again giving up their chance at landing Sam Walsh, especially because he is a Brisbane and would be one of the very few talents who would actually 'want' to play for the club.

No. I dont think we will see any adventurous moves by the club. I doubt Roughead would come to Adelaide anyway. He is a pretty good player when he is on song.

I am with you on Preuss though. Dont think Jacobs has another full season of his best football in him. We were always looking at 2019 as having a chance IF Eddie, Tex & Sauce in particular hadn't hit the wall. I feel like Sauce is the one that is going to hit and it could cost us a flag. We dont have anyone else and you need that level of influence from a ruckman if you are going to be the best. You can carry lesser players in some positions, but you can't get smashed in the ruck.

If its true we are looking at getting pick 1 that would be VERY adventurous

I personally dont think they land Walsh at pick 5. They could very well trade up with the Gold Coast, or even the Saints. But I dont think that both the Saints and Carlton will pass on Walsh. Its possible if Carlton take Luko, GC take the Kings and St Kilda takes Smith. But Walsh is also being talked about as being a generational mid. I dont think the Saints can risk passing on him.

So then Brisbane will be looking at Smith and Rankine. Will they go down the Nathan Buckley path again with Rankine? My view is they are already loaded with talent and now need to make a run at finals. JJ will be a big, experienced body that will benefit Hipwood. But then instead of Smith, they still get a top 12 player, who could turn out better than Smith anyway. They could just take Roughead and Smith mind you. The latter would be my plan A. But JJ and pick 12 would give them a pretty good shot of making the top 8 and the Lions as a club need that to get the fans on board again.

Looking isn't adventurous. Its like watching extreme sports on youtube. :) Throwing all our picks to Carlton and ending up taking only one player from a super-draft, could be considered adventurous. I would call it stupid. I think we need to trade a best 22 player to get Luko and at least one other good player from this draft. I think we can get Rankine and another good player without doing that.

I suspect it will be a lot of posturing and there will be an entertaining War dance between the Crows and Carlton. But there wont be any deal. They have been through all of this the last two years. Can't believe it is going to go to round 3. Lol. Hope we dont waste all our time with Carlton and see deals done with Gold Coast, St Kilda or Brisbane while we are wasting our time with a lost cause.
