I’m sure theyd like to but they can either absolutely get Howard or they can miss out and might maybe get King if Ben doesn’t like GC and Collingwood/Hawthorn/Richmond/bigger Vic clubs don’t make him an GC a better offer. Carlton on the rise might even tempt, and they have the brown paper bags ready

You tell me which is the smarter move for them.

Smart has never been St Kilda's strong suit.

They will have been into Ben before he was drafted. It's all a guess but I would be surprised to see them part with next year's first round.

They're in enough of a bind this year by future trading.

Browne told Channel 7 that Sydney and Essendon’s inability to strike a deal for Daniher was consequently delaying a four-way separate deal involving Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Sydney and St Kilda.
That deal would see Zak Jones, Dougal Howard and Paddy Ryder all get to St Kilda, while Josh Bruce would land at the Bulldogs.

Nothing about what we would receive in the article though

Hopefully that stalls then.

Dougal is definitely gone and you all know we will fold and take unders for him. Then struggle next year when we have injuries to talls

Davies knows he can hold out St Kilda because they have nothing to trade. Picks 12 and 18 then a cliff. They are getting offered 32 for Bruce and Geelong won't give them even 37 for Steven.

They have to get trades done for Hill, Jones, Howard, Ryder and probably Butler.

the only concern is … if the Saints get 2nd & 3rd clubs into the deal for example

Saints - Howard going to the saints (maybe with either Sammy Gray / Ryder)
Port - pick 18, future 2nd round pick (for Schofield), KPP - Kruger (196cm) and or Young (197cm)
Cats - Stevens (saints get to transfer Kreuger to us and keep a current or late future draft pick going back to the saints)
Dogs - Bruce (saints get Young to transfer to us and keep a current or late future draft pick going back to the saints)

but atm the Saints are trying to do a 4 way deal involving Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Sydney and St Kilda

so if we want to keep Howard lets hope that Essendon continues to hold up the Swans (with the Daniher deal)

Still disagree on that. Howard removes need for King (or at least makes his acquisition far more a luxury than a need), and even if Ben wants Melbourne the assumption that he wants St Kilda is unwise. Classic example is Chris Judd grew up a Dees fan but chose Carlton ahead of them.

Judd didn’t have a twin brother he grew up playing football with. Make no mistake St Kilda will move heaven and earth to get Ben on their list as soon as he says the words, regardless of their list composition when the time comes.

For a club like Gold Coast that can’t retain players Ben King was a dumb pick then and will be a dumber pick when he requests a trade to play with his twin brother.

I would be a bit nervous about pick 18 in this draft. Cal Twomey rates Jackson Mead at 18 in his top 30. Not everyone agrees but it only takes one club to force our hand early.

Mead said on radio that he had only interviewed with 3 clubs, so hopefully that's an indication that clubs are not going to bite off on a bid. Surely you would still interview him if you were going to have a crack in the first couple of rounds...

St Kilda can do what they like but they’re the least prestigious (and among the lowest media profile/sponsorship $$$/post football career) of nine Melbourne-based clubs, and if you look through the list of brothers playing AFL, when they aren’t drafted to the same club it seems most are quite happy staying apart, and when thats not the case its largely a brother moving home to a two-team town where the only option is to play with brother or be sworn enemies.

Regardless, thats St Kilda’s problem. Throwing out offers to every player yet declaring future picks off the table is a game Port (as holders if a long contracted player) should not tolerate...if thats even been said by St Kilda!

The fox footy article looks like it was written by a St Kilda staffer. Howard wants to accept a $3 million 5 year deal because he wants to play in defence. Pick 18 is considered overs by many. No mention of him being contracted to the end of 2022.
