Do we need another inside mid?

Depending on atley staying and his progression.

Hately is a very good runner though.

I think Adelaide will offer #1 2019 for Lukosius and if that doesn't work, for Rankine. GC can always refuse but risk getting less later.

The issue is what GC make of the quality of # 1 in 2019 and where would Rowell and Anderson have gone if they were in the 2018 draft?

Anderson is the clear number 1 pick and I suspect he is a huge flight risk. Highly fancied private school kid whose father played in Vic and will be sought after by all the big Vic clubs with all the opportunities those come with. Gcs swapping luko or rankine for Anderson would be a stupid move for them imo.

They’re much better off holding onto them a year.

I think we'd all love Grundy but it is pretty much the one area where we're set, both now and in the future.

Making a Tom Boyd style play for Rankine or Lukosius should be ruled out too; too much risk of it going to their head and disaffecting the rest of our playing group. I would certainly target them but back ourselves to sell the club and the prospect of playing in a young group with the likes of Rozee, Butters, Marshall, Howard, Duursma, Wines, SPP, Ladhams, Houston, Clurey et al.

Save our pennies hit the draft again maybe a couple of cheap high risk reward types cockatoo 1 im keen on. Would go after cameron next yr as a f.a.

Gold Coast need players who are willing to stay there. If GC was offered a good young player, whose willing to sign a 4+ year contract, along with a first round pick I think they’d bite. It’s finding a good young player (no fringe or yet to play PlayStation offers) on our list and then he’s willing to go that’s the hard part. Otherwise competing with everyone at the end of 2020 for the pair.

SPP and a first rounder.

If Atley moves on, Trengove delisted, if SPP doesn’t show improvement I wonder whether we would look to trigger a trade.

Boak, Rocky they could suddenly drop off a cliff at anytime. Despite how well they’re playing this year. So our midfield depth could vanish soon.
Need to get games into Drew & Atley; I see them as part of our future, and they need to see that to.

I'd be livid if we traded SPP. He's doing the right things off field now and it shouldn't be hard to get him to the next level on field. To get rid of him would just reinforce the idea that we suck at developing players.

I like them too and hope they stay, but at present they don't edge out anyone in our midfield. Drew made a good fist of his run of games at the start of the year and Atley has never looked out of place at AFL level either. But without injuries they remain fringe propositions for now.

Has been a good contributor for the most part this year too, but the side did need a shakeup after a close, but incomplete performance against Fremantle. I'd say it won't be long before he's back in.

Well apparently the Saints are pretty keen on a ruckman...

Hard to gauge what is real and what is bullshit with regard to salaries etc.
But if we take it on face value 400k per year for a guy who's never played an AFL game, picked off the rookie draft barely two years ago, coming off an ACL is all kinds of questionable.

Im in the let ryder walk camp....
Id rather see ladhams, frampton, marshall and eventually hayes getting more game time. his best is past him and should get better offers else where.

ill be pissed if either marshall or frampton leave at the end of the year. not pissed at them but at the way we have treated them.

SPP wont be going anywhere ... Boak is helping him, and I think he might have a few things to say if they tried lol

Honestly Marshall has been treated fine. He's probably been given more games than his form warranted if anything.

Frampton, on the other hand, has every right to be pissed off.

I presume there was little serious interest, or at least there was no interest that met our valuation?

A bit of giving SPP a kick up the ass and a bit of frustration with his off field screw ups and generally poor preparation.

We got what we wanted from our other trades. It was always not critical to trade SPP. Besides he wanted to stay.

Crazy that we would've let that whole nightclub saga end his time at the Club. Not surprised though that Koch, Ken and co. might have felt like he wasn't making the community proud, because that's what's most important after all.

Really though, trading a second year player with all that potential would have been really ****ing negligent and would have upset me more than Wingard or Polec.

I’m not sure we have been that rough on our KPFs.

Ladhams and Frampton were borderline delist last year and have really come along in 2019. Neither were ready in 2018 despite our KPP woes. Both have built nicely across the year and got games. There is a case that both could have played one or two more but they haven’t been mistreated. Same for Marshall.

All the young KPPs should recognise that Paddy and Westhoff aren’t going to be around much longer and that leaves us with Dixon and Lycett as established KPPs and both have an injury history. Howard may not stay forward. So the spots are there if they want them. The same applies to Atley and Drew.

Look at the apprenticeships that Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney, Adelaide and West Coast put their players through. It’s not the only way but as long as the players understand their role and position, it’s a safe and sure way to develop ready to go depth.

Not sure Ryder and his family would want to return to Melbourne.
They were pretty traumatised by the Essendon stuff.

Exactly..he worked hard over the summer, he didn’t sook it up and leave.
