Would you trade Carey for the number 1,2 and 4 draft picks???

The heart would rule the head, and I'd say NO to the trade. He is the greatest player to have pulled on the North Melbourne colours and I'd want him to retire with a games record that only included matches for our club. People do say that no player is bigger than the club and as the trade stands, North would come out a clear winner (3 young players for one champion in the twilight of his career), but in this case, Carey is the exception.

Trade him to Essendon. He'd be good as a bench player in our team. Carey would be "depth" to our team.

He'd probably be in awe though, watching the more talented players around him strut their stuff.

At age 30 with two flags and countless great games extracted from him AND with him carrying more injuries than most clubs combined injury lists - ABSOLUTELY YOU WOULD TRADE HIM FOR 1,2 & 3. Virtually guarantees you at least a Haselby (could be anything) player and a very good player (say of Hamill standard)...

Sorry North fans, I know all about emotional wishes to see him finish his days at Arden St.. but fi he retires at 31 - and given that you NEED the youth, talent and pace - you'd have to take this option... SURELY!!!

Don't trade away your champions. There are no guarantees with the draft. None. Only 1 out of every 3 players really "makes it" in the draft anyway. Never trade away your champions unless they want to go.

Look at Travis Johnston. A number one pick. 4 years on, would he be worth giving up Wayne Carey for ? No way ! Travis Johnston is OK, but he will just be a normal 150 game player. Nothing special by AFL standards.

So why could you not answer like Shinboners has answered here...

As for the difference between trading Buckley and Carey... I mainly looked at the lists of both clubs... North list is aging and they may have 1 or 2 more cracks at a flag and then they may need to rebuild... where as Collingwood are at the other end of the spectrum with a very young list that should be fighting out flags in 2 to 3 years... will buckley's best be behind him then??? aand does that matter...

In regards to number 1 draft picks in someone's previous post. I think the only reason they are drafted so high is because their footy skills mature earlier than some of those around them. After they mature though they plateau which is why they never go on to do much better.
