There r some on Geelong board who reckon Duncan could be available for right price...find it hard to believe but he is another one of those inconsistent ones we have by truckload

Re people saying get our sponsors to hire family members - I'm pretty sure it isn't possible. Just like Phil Scully was in GWS salary cap when he was hired around the same time as they got Tom across, they scrutinise any suggestion of third party arrangements carefully (disclaimer: depending on who the team is, whether it fits certain agendas etc.)

So had lunch with JK and JD today, JK is an old mate. Can confirm Ballas will be at the eagles. Done deal, a third rounder. Petrie will be rookie regardless of who we get as he has a coaching job lined up as well. Minson the front runner atm for our R1 starting ruck. Can also confirm pick 12, JD and Brown to Essendon for pick 1. We then want to trade pick 1 for McCarthy and 7 20th GWS. And yes we had Subway

So essentially just get rid of free agency and go back to trades only?

I'm not opposed to removing FA but the reality is the players pushed hard for it and got it. They wanted more control over being able to move clubs, which isn't surprising given the previous system was very restrictive and possibly even illegal in terms of restrain of trade.

I'd rather FA compensation simply be removed and the compensation is the cap space the club now has to recruit another player themselves. But that could potentially **** over clubs down the bottom of the table.

I know it sounds like that but if the AFL are offering up compensation then it's a trade anyway, just a bad one.
Personally I prefer transfer fees.

Trade for mids!!

We don't trade enough!!!

West Coast are falling behind!!!

We aren't ACTIVE!!

NO AGGRESSION!!!!

I present you to you, Day one of Trading period ladies and gentlemen, on the WCE board.

See you tomorrow for Day 2, yeahoowww!!

Just seems like we are wasting a trade period focusing on finding a stop gap ruckman who is likely going to be gone after one year anyway, instead of putting all our energy and efforts into luring top rated midfielders.

I wouldn't call it wasting our time. From the rumours we've looked into as many ruckman as we can. This to me indicates that the recruiters are looking into every possible scenario.

If everything falls into place, we will get the other players we want and the ruckman we want. If not, we can filter down the list and grab whatever ruckman is left. Plenty to choose from.

Wasting our time would be putting all our effort into one ruckman and then failing to get him.

The AFL are setting the trade price, why can't the club?
Because that's like asking a bloke caught speeding to determine the price of his fine and how many points he is going to lose.

If you're taking about free agency you need an arbitrator. A neutral party that can determine value or you'd have clubs overvaluing their FA losses and not giving a f*** about their FA gains so long as they could fit them in their cap. It'd be a shitstorm.

Unfortunately it is also school holidays time and judging by many of the new posters, the school boys are out in full voice.
Thanks for the clever scheduling, Gillon

People on here complaining about inaction.

Would you rather we pay Wells $600k for 3 years and also grab Mayne for $500k for 2 years.

We traded in 2 mids last year and gave up our first round pick.

Building through the draft isn't a stupid concept is it?
Strong draft, I'd like to get more picks in the second round if we can somehow. If we can't get a gun mid (which was never likely to begin with) then I'd like to see us double down on the draft.

It's really bloody frustrating that no elite player ever wants to head to WA. Unfortunately with this new free agency system unless that is changed eagles and freo wont be winning anytime soon. IMO they need increased salary cap so they can sign the players the East coast teams do simply by paying them more, because everything else being equal they wont sign for WA teams.

Perhaps this forces the issue and we get serious about preferencing WA country boys, with a bit of mongrel and a stronger connection to the land and their state than a metrosexual cuck from the prestigious paradigm of private instruction institutions.

Either this or west coast just don't tey hard enough to secure these boys.. We are so far from a destination club if a local indigenous bloke would rather eat pasta on lygon street and play for Carlton...

Our club does not fill me with confidence, we seem content to thrash in the pools of mediocrity. People will say it's on Pickett but ffs who will it be three years down the track?

Just concerned that there is a stink of rot at our club and these player managers can smell it a mile away.
