O'Meara is leaving because he doesn't want to play at the club anymore something that the Suns need to get their head around whether they like it or not
Hawthorn have offered picks 10 and 48 which is unders and I can see why the Suns aren't happy with that. They can make a stand and refuse the trade to make a point if they like - JOM goes into the national draft and probably gets through to Hawthorn at pick 10 or alternatively into the PSD where Essendon take him, either way the Suns lose a marquee player for donuts.
Yes, the Suns could use pick 8 to draft JOM and block his move to Hawthorn but then have a player that doesn't want to be there - maybe they get something out of him, maybe they don't and he'll ask for a trade at the end of next year so they do all this again. To what end?
They should be pushing Hawthorn all the way to the deadline tomorrow to get something else that ups the trade but at the end of it take the trade and use the draft picks wisely to rebuild a broken list
And they did talk to Lewis but he didn't want to move his family
Hawthorn for their part need to lean on one of their players to move so they've got something to add to the trade or risk missing their major target
