Eagles still keen on Petrie , Vozzo confirmed that Petrie was still on the clubs radar as it looked to cover off all ruck and forward / ruck options in the absence of Nic Naitanui in 2017 .

This just shows how important NicNat is and maybe the lack of confidence in Lycett staying on the field throughout the year .

Probably cannot see us taking a young ruckman in the draft then , now that Petrie is still on the radar .

Vozzo said the Eagles would not necessarily pick a midfielder at pick 12 . " It will be best available talent " , he said .

Looks like petrie at 12. Bugger.

Wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones that came up with it. Don't they go into mediation of they can't agree to a deal? Everything the AFL do now days is to save their own reputation and for theatre and money. Can't have a big name not getting to his destination in trade period. Better to screw Carlton over and have the theatre of it being a last minute deal even if it makes absolutely no sense. There is absolutely no way SoS agrees to the Hawks deal but not the Gibbs for pick 13. I agree that the whole thing looks very dodgy but like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if it came from the top.
Yeh fair point, there are some serious WWE undertones about the AFL these days. I'd look for a one-sided deal coming Carlton's way next year to make up for it.

Why wouldn't we take a ruckman in the draft? Not like Petrie is a ruckman so he's not going to be able to cover for Lycett or Giles.

How much ruck cover do we need for 3/4 of a season?

Lycett, Giles, Vardy can surely cover between them until Naitanui returns in the latter stages of the year. Petrie, superstar that he is, is overkill IMO.

Lycett in four seasons cannot stay fit anď has probably played 40 or so games and Giles is only soso and Vardy yet to prove himself , petrie doesn't have the injury concerns and is a good bloke who could be good to have around the club .

Dont think the club is keen to play NicNat next season .

Where/when has Vozzo said this?

Cloke to Dogs for pick 76.

lol
Cloke 76 > Mitch

Rates the crows a contender except us LOL. Adelaide were pretty lucky they had no injuries to their midfield. I don't think they will be that great with Thommo on the downward spiral and maybe even jacobs. One injury to either crouch bro or sloane will derail them.

GWS lost enough depth to field amother top 8 side.
Only reason we weren't on that list was because it didn't suit his narrative.

We're more of a contender than the Hawks ir Cats. You don't just replace guys like Bartel, Enright, Mitchell and Lewis. It takes time for someone to step up and fill that massive hole in your 22.

But the Hawks literally did replace them both, with Mitchell and O'meara. Tom Mitchell has got a way to go to have the same influence as our Mitchell but assuming Jaegar gets on the park he's a better player than Lewis.

This time next year...

"The AFL award Carlton pick 1, 2 and a replacement second rounder as compensation for Gibbs move to Adelaide"

JOMs finals experience = 0
Lewis = 4 flags, 20+ finals
More upside maybe but right now a better player he is not.

Sam was out disposaling Tom when he was in nappies.

I do not believe this. Where do you get your information? If this had happened I would have been very, very unhappy with this trade period, and I think Terry would have given us an 'e' instead of an 'a'. A young key fwd capable of kicking 50+ goals per year (as rare as hen's teeth) for a depth midfielder who may not be afl standard and cannot get a game at his present club. Yuk! Clarkson was a bit out there with his trades but whoever did this would be out there and half way to the moon.

Dark Sharks is my inside source, he's usually pretty spot on with this kinda stuff.

It was a GWS 2017 second rounder. So likely to be close to 40.
The draft order list on the afl site has Carlton with GWS' 2nd round pick and hawthorn with carltons

And the trade tracker makes no mention of the GWS pick in the hawthorn - Carlton pick swap

On face value it's a terrible trade and if I was a Carlton supporter I'd be seething

Sensible post.

I agree it's overkill, there's no way I'd be taking Petrie at all, I think we'd be better off playing Masten in the ruck
Not so sensible post. What happens if Lycett's knee flares up, Giles' game vs Crows was a one off and Vardy gets injured. All are likely. Better to have something than nothing. We'll just be back here in 12 months time lamenting another what-if season.

Maybe we will but adding Vardy , Petrie and a young draftee ruck is overkill .

The club obviously think Petrie can pinch hit in the ruck .

Funny I'm more open to Petrie trade now we have Vardy. In the event of injury or poor form he at least wont be totally out of his depth on an AFL ground like McInnes was at times last year.

It's clear the club believe the premiership window is fully open and are building a list that has plenty of redundancy by sticking with experience. That's great but we also need to make sure the future pipeline isn't sacrificed - I'm confident the club will get the balance right.
