Love the mentality of the "Trade for some mids" crowd. Every chance they've been criticizing the club all year for trading for Redden and Jetta.

It's the equivalent of the numpties who sit near me each game yelling "Just kick the thing!" followed inevitably by "Why'd you kick it there?"

We want action at any cost but we also reserve the right to criticize those actions when they fall over.

You don't watch eagles games do you? With out extra mids in 2017 say see ya. No depth and same blokes putting their heads over it

We're a rich club so we can afford to convince him to join us instead.

Even though there's a salary cap and we couldn't actually pay him any more than the Crows.
Then we do what every other club does. use our sponsors to give lucrative promotions and deals to wanted players, and their families.
Quite a number of freos mining sponsors have players families working on good coin for doing jack shit as a result, for example.

What pushed Judd toward Carlton was Visy offering his mother a million a year, one day a week job at a desk doing jack shit

I reckon once the WA boys that live interstate come to play against us at Burswood stadium in front of 65k fans in 2018, and see us training at a top facility in lathlain they might think perth is a good option. Whilst we are sitting on wooden planks at subi - forget it

Give everyone 1.5mill over 10 years. Why can't we do that with EVERYONE? Especially Gibbs. That's all we need. After all he won the premiership for Carlton by himself.

Not all the same people. You tell us where our midfield will get improvemt for next year?
Sheed getting a proper pre-season for starters and actually playing. Dugan and Nelson getting their fitness and size up. Redden and Jetta not having injury interrupted pre-seasons although jury still out on Jetta. Picking up a SPP type in the draft who is ready for senior football. A lot better than "trade for some mids". I mean, can you think of any mids available that want to go to WCE who would actually complement the side? Don't say Barlow please because we already have a better version in Priddis.

The grass isn't always greener you know.

If we ain't having a serious dip at one of Rocky, Barlow and especially Swallow I believe the Eagles can't be taken serious.
Yeah, Swallow the only one I'd like, provided they can get on top of his PCL issues. Rockliff, meh, Barlow, no thanks.

That's not saying we can't win it with what we have but once you are that close to the flag you have to bring in the players to top you up. All 3 do that.
I'll say it then - we cannot win it with what we have. Should probably wait until I see how much work is done in the off-season on hands/tackling and pressure/ground ball skills to say that.

I guess it just feels so far away after seeming so close for a while.

I take your point about those blokes topping us up, but we've already got so much mediocre midfield talent it hurts to consider adding the likes of Barlow to that.

Per
Hawthorn with Omeara and Mitchell, cant see them falling down the ladder like everyone saying they will.

Perhaps not next year, although JOM is going to struggle after being out for close to 2 years. Old age can hit quite quickly and excruciatingly when it does too for Hodge, Burgoyne, Mitchell, Gibson and Lewis who are so important for them. I can't see them all playing after 2017. They're counting on JOM and Mitchell being the cornerstones of their midfield, and fair enough, but they're giving up the next few years in the draft.

Will be a very interesting few years to see how they cope with the retirement of their old guard. Will they be able to top up with free agents and trades and just keep the machine rolling? They'd want to hope so, because they haven't got a lot of quality coming through in the KPP stocks.

Shit, I forgot they just picked up Vickery didn't they? They'll be fine.

Seems as though our club is accepting mediocrity at this stage....team isn't quite good enough for a flag yet they continue to stick with it as though they are ignorant to the fact we need midfielders. Pickett would've been cheap, a potential solution to our small forward gap and would inject some pace into the team but he is off to Victoria?! Offer him something to come home ffs. If we can't even get WA boys to come home we may as well pack up shop and leave trade week for clubs hungry to create success. If we get Petrie or don't pick up some mids i'll lose it.
Unfortunately if the player does not want to come home there's not much we can do about that. It's just the way things are whether it's to our liking or not!

improvement next year will need to come from within. too many players went backwards in 2016: wellingham, yeo, sheed, jetta, lecras, duggan, redden, hill, cripps...

if a few of those can find some improved and consistent form that'd be more valuable than picking up a deledio or a rockliff.

we need a core 18-20 blokes playing most games to have career best years, like in 2015, if we want to get near it next year.

They have very experience people and coaches to learn from though, so if JOM gets fit they are set.

Im sure we've at least asked the question with a lot of the players that have been mentioned. It's hard to compete with the big cities and the travel factor is an influence with most players. Who wants to fly every second week when they can sit around partying in melbourne for half the year and only travel every month or two. The afl need to increase our salary cap (almost 0 chance of it happening) because we don't have anything extra to offer players that melbourne or sydney clubs don't already have. Our only chance to get good players in is drafting, our player retention is exceptional so that seems the only way. Once players experience perth they don't mind it but the problem is getting them here.

I knew the eagles would do this. I posted something few weeks ago saying the club won't do anything for trade period. Same ppl running around in 2017 and nothing will change.
People whine when we don't trade, then they whinge when we trade and don't have good picks in the draft. You can't have your cake and eat it. Personally I'm happy for the club to go to the draft as there appears to be nothing on offer that suits us and is available. We had 16 wins 2 years in a row with an apparently shithouse midfield, I'd expect some natural improvement from the younger players + Redden. If we can show even a small improvement we'll be top 4 next year. The mental side is what bothers me more but that's a discussion for another thread.

I went to 15 games this year - 11 home games, an away derby, two interstate games and that final that was inexplicably cancelled. Watched the remaining games on TV. So I've seen a bit of them this year.

I'm all for adding extra midfielders, particularly some top end talent, but at the right price. Rockliff is overrated, Barlow is cactus and there's not a hell of a lot more available. If we want depth as opposed to superstars then I'd happily look at guys like Ellis-Yolmen and Ah Chee.

Otherwise, hopefully we'll have full uninterrupted years from Sheed and Redden, better output from Jetta, and improvement from Duggan and Partington, on top of whoever we get with pick 12. That's where I see our midfield improvement coming from.

You posted it five or six times, in fact.

Maybe change the recorded message?
