Trade Week a Non Event !!

This years trading week has so far become a non event. The Carey deal has be done, Chick done and Everritt done. Outside that, we have heard news here and there, but it really hasnt been any level of activity that merits all the talk and scuttlebag around the traps.

Deals still to be put away are Headland, which one way or another will be done, Lions not going to let Headland go the pre-season draft and get nothing for it; Wowoedin is the surprise one and goes to show how close to the wind most clubs are.

Which goes along way to explain why trade week has be a non event this year. Clubs are no longer in a position to provide the financial incentive to recruit players from other clubs. All the trades to date are player iniated rather than club iniated.

Tomorrow will be interesting, hope there is a flurry of last minute dealing, but something tells me that we may only see the Headland deal done with the rest hitting stumbling blocks.

So far trade week has been sh1thouse, apparently Port have 3 deals lined up but so far none have come through. Hopefully like you said there will be a flurry of trades tomorrow, I mean 3 trades in 4 days is just bloody ridiculous.

The main reasons why trade week has been slow this year are theres still one day to go and salary cap and financial pressure has meant no one can afford to trade.

Zombie, why would you trade lots if you were Port. Port were easily good enough to get to a grand final this year. Failing this year will just fire up the hunger and make Port a better chance for the premiership in 03.

Richmond have already got a trade but I still want a few more for just Richmond. If all goes to my plan there will be about 20 trades tommorow. Highly unlikely

Tomorrow it will liven up, no doubt. All I ask is that someone takes Tim Clarke off our hands for a draft pick. Anything under 40 would have me satisfied.

It's a joke.

The clubs have had 2 months to sort out who/what they want, what they could get and who they are willing to let go. They get five days to do it -over a weekend no less - and they leave most of the work until the last day! Some clubs just don't appear to be using the time effectively.

Next year they should be made to do it from 9 -5 from Monday to Thursday. None of this weekend rubbish. Its supposed to be a professional business and it should be run like one.

That is why the period from the end of the football season to the end of trade week is called silly season. A lot of these so-called trades are no more than supporters wish-lists. Otherwise one teams' fans want a player or another teams' fans want to get rid of an under-performing player. And all these go up on the media or the net, which really does become the disinformation highway in this period. Port have never traded much, in fact most teams limit themselves to 2 trades in the period. Sometimes there are more but on average trade week is slower than expected.

i do agree with you... not alot has happened apart from those which we knew would happen.

at the same time, ive been ****ting myself the past few days over the woewodin trade, and if that goes through, ill FREAK!!!
