Hi posters

IMO the draft week process and rules need changing.

Each year there appears to be clubs that are able to trade better than other clubs, clubs appear to be destination clubs while others have players leaving and not always get adequately compensated.

My suggestion is a band approach for compensation similar to restricted free agents.

Instead of clubs having to hand over all their draft capital for a player while other clubs seem to be able to avoid this the AFL could have a levered approach.

Band 1.1 players uncintracted with club then offered a large contract to switch clubs over a long term deal eg 900 plus and 5 years plus

Club compensation a top 3 pick from the afl

Band 1.2 player on large money 650 to 850k and 4 years plus

Club compensation mid first round pick

Band 2.1
Club compensation start of second round

2.2
Club compensation mid second round

Onwards

If they are contracted then the club offering a move over to them have to hand over a pick to adequately compensat clubs with contracted players wanting out. The club offering to have them switch would need to hand over a first round pick for band 1.1 or 1 2 onwards for band 2 1 or 2 2.

These rules helps out all clubs and is based on contract offers not potential or homesickness etc

What are people's thoughts and could it be improved even more. With regards to Griff Logue Freo would have been adequately compensated considering he's uncontracted. Lobb wanting out thus year would help facilitate the trade.

It would also remove the threat of players walking to the psd in bottom 4 clubs offer big money to uncontracted players.
