We have barely made a motion in the trade week so far
Is that an indication we will not be participating (I know Mick said our list is fine yadda yada)
Or do we believe we're waiting for some bargains that may fall across the line towards the end of "Trade Month"

Still a long way to go FBI and it wouldn't surprise me if we make a last minute trade.

Probably a bit of both. It is no secret that our list underperformed by a fair margin this year and the reasons why have been debated and discussed on many other threads. Could be MM is playing it cool as we have a list that is potentially good enough so we can afford to wait and only bite if something we really want is available.

If nothing of value eventuates, MM has a year to assess who he wants to stay in a long term capacity and a few more players will either have some trade value or their papers stamped allowing him to chase who he thinks he needs to fill any gaps.

Either way, I am not unhappy with any of the trades/FA transfers we have 'missed' so far.

I feel the same and I don't see the point in trading just for the sake of it and pick up list cloggers just because BigFooty posters are jumping up and down that we have been inactive so far in the Trade period.

Agree, but our hands are tied because our 'dead wood' is under contract and not worth much/anything in a trade. I think we will be doing a lot of spectating, not because we choose to, but because we have to. Maybe best we can hope for is to trade two of our picks (one being a lower pick that we can't use anyway) for one higher pick as, thanks to our poor list management, we are only going to have 3 picks in this draft.
Hate the term dead wood and think people are expecting the impossible. The fact is that all clubs have players under contract on the basis they are untried but have potential or have shown something at AFL level as a depth player. You will not find any club whereby none of their contracted players are thought to be dead wood. Then again, we do tend to rate opposition fringe players that have played a decent game or two to our own fringe players that have played a decent game or two.

Agree ODN. What is Rattens 'deadwood' may be MMs best 22. There is no point writing off players that are not favoured by the old coaching style before seeing if they are better suited to the new coaching style.

A quick look back through all premiership players from the last 20 years would throw up quite a few names that are either not remembered at all, or were thought of less than fondly before the premiership triumph made them heroes to their supporters.

Exactly right, I see no point in making moves for the sake of it, especially when the club has a number of players who haven't yet reached their full potential.
Aside from the draft, where we'll hopefully be able to pick up some quality, the only addition that I can us making would be a trade late in the period similar to the Laidler trade, where we pick up someone on the cheap to fill a hole in the side.

It has been already, but on the bright side, there is still about 2/3 of it to go. Thanks for the pep talk.:D

Well Kurt Tippet we will give you 7 year contract for $1,000,000,000 per year. We should of done this at the start of trade month. Sorry for the delay :)

Given your sub-standard performance, probably 3 years ;)
Fair enough, probably only a sympathy upgrade given I have been on the list 3 years tomorrow and they had to choose whether to cut me or not. Maybe the F/S selection available in a few years time will be adequate compensation.:(

All I can say now is
BRING ON THE NATIONAL DRAFT.

Says a bit that none of our fringe players are good enough to trade but none are bad enough to delist either...although what exactly that says I'm not really sure...any other theories besides poor list management?

Anyway lets just hope that the list cloggers turn into players next year. Brock has shown that where there's a contracted player there's hope.

We aren't getting Young. In fact, I don't see us getting anyone. I am sick of us being linked to any and every player, because the club has come out said we will be very quiet during this period.

What am i missing here?, my poor grammar, or have you never experianced Wednesday night out
Wednesday night out in Perth is a good one... I used to wander along to the mustang bar on Lake St, Northbridge... it's backpackers night so you pay a 5 buck cover charge and you get a ticket in the door prize, cheap booze all night and a plate of food and a free schooner as well :D

It was tricky going to work the next day usually... but thank god I worked 5 minutes away from where I lived :)

I heard, from a decent source that Hawthorn are expecting him to stay.

The phrase used was "fabric of the club" kind of guy. His family is very much involved with the club apparently.

Unless another club is offering him a ridiculous amount of money, I cannot understand why Young would want to leave the Hawks. He's a best 22 player now, he cemented his spot in the starting 22 at the start of this year and they are literally on the cusp of a premiership. They're hot favourites to win it next year. It would stagger me if he left the Hawks.

Disappointed to miss out on Caddy, but it had been reasonably clear that he just wasn't coming to us for a little while, for one reason or another.

I would have been comfortable enough with giving up our first round pick for him but it sounds as though that was out of the question.

Now that his future is settled, there's simply noone left worth giving up our first pick for. Can't see us doing anything of note during this trade period, and if something does happen it'll be on the small side - bringing in a young player we've identified as a future player that hasn't quite made his mark at AFL level yet (ie. Laidler), or providing a few of our depth players with another home where they may have more of an impact (ie. Ellard) for a pick upgrade in the mid-to-latter rounds of the draft.
