Ok, after all is said and done, all that has occurred at the Collingwood Football Club is we have picked up a top 5 ruckman.

I'm quite happy with the deal done, and also happy that we didnt give too much away for Luke Ball or Fevola.

After all is said and done;

We lost no players off our list, and we added an elite 28 year old ruckman who has played 113 games in a row.

Not a bad week.:thumbsu:

It's good that we gained from trade week, and didn't lose anything. Gained a great ruckman, but didn't get Ball, which is extremely disappointing. Waiting to hear from the Collingwood officials on the matter, but Lyon didn't help being so stubborn.

We still fell short this year with the players we have, a Good ruck will not solve all our problems but will help.
The excess players are still there and looks like we will be relying on Leon, Lockyer, Fraser, Johnson and O'Bree AGAIN!!! In Finals.
Massive fail in trade week for the pies bar Jolly and even he wasnt cheap.
Once again we sat on our heels and ended up doing stuff all really.
Hope Hine has his eye on someone with pick 30 and then pick i million after that!

We are now left with the following draft picks;

Pick 30 (Second round)
Pick 62 (Fourth round)
Pick 78 (Fifth Round)
Pick 94 (Sixth Round)

The draft doesnt seem that important anymore does it.

Maybe this will guarantee players like Cook, Corrie stay on the list, as we can't delist too many more.

The Jolly trade did leave us "hamstrung" to quote Walshy. All we really had was pick 30, that was scoffed at early in the week, and then its relying on other clubs to help us satisfy the Saints. And to be honest, the work we wouldve needed to do to go lower than 25 wouldve probably, in essence, made acquiring Ball counterproductive, ie losing Nathan Brown, etc. So, to gain Jolly, and not lose anyone, it's gotta be a pass.

Seemingly Ball is done at the Saints now, unless either party back-flips. So is it a lay down misere that he ends up a Demon in the PSD?

It is interesting that The Saints have gone for a lot of draft picks when they must have thought they were one or two younger faster players out of winning the GF, I really thought SW would have helped them more then Goldie or Brown

We are seriously a joke of a club!! well maybe i shouldnt say WE...

Our list managment and senior officials are arguably the worst performers of all time.. HOW MANY PLAYERS MUST FALL THROUGH OUR HANDS BEFORE WE REALIZE THAT WE ACTUALLY NEED THEM TO WIN A FLAG !!

WE HAVE 1 FLAG IN 50 YEARS!!! LOCKETT WOULD OF MADE A DIFFERENCE - SPIDER EVERITT WOULD OF MADE A DIFFERENCE .. LUKE BALL OR FEV WOULD OF MADE A MASSIVE DIFFERNCE !!

we are forever over rating our own stock and not willing to close a bloody deal year in year out and until we get rid of the EVERYONE WANTS TO PLAY FOR COLLINGWOOD mentality we are not going anywhere...

I LOVE OUR CLUB. do not mistake that for a second.. but who would YOU rather in the goal square . FEV OR FRASER ? FEV OR DAWES ?

Who would you rather in the middle ? O BREE or BALL ? WELLINGHAM or BALL ?

Yes the players i mentioned are good footballers and we love them cause they wear our jumper BUT THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS.

Malthouse your a DUD. You would of coached for 11 years without a flag at the most powerful sporting club in the land.

bring on buckley and let him have the control that voss has and put his balls on the line and make a decision. maybe that way we as the collingwood faithful will actually TASTE some success!!

In my opinion the result was poor, very poor. Jolly was a good get but to miss out on Ball was bl**dy hopeless. He is the type of player we need and once again could'nt organise a deal even when the player himself wants to come to the club, joke. Looking forward to next year, Davis and Fraser to again being inconsistent, injury prone and go missing when we need them most, great. If the rumour is true the saints wanted Goldsack for Ball and we baulked at it i'll be even more disappointed.
oh, i forgot we have pick 30 in draft, go pies in 2010.

Pretty happy with the trade period. Jolly will make a huge difference. Can ruck and can hit to advantage. Will be a whole new learning period in training for our mids. I am kind of glad we didnt get Ball as he is probably going to struggle to get on the park more and more. And he'd have held back the sidebottom, Beams, Mccartney learning curve. We have gone onwards and upwards by adding a legitimate ruck to our team of young guns.

Yeah pick 30 in a draft that only has 10 decent recruits in it...

I would have taken the Goldsack trade, considering the small-medium sized backmen we have - Shaw, O Brien, Maxwell, though for me keeping Brown was a must considering Presti's age.

Ball for Goldsack would have been a massive win for us, FFS what the hell is going on down there???

They wanted pick 30 as well i believe. Probably a slight win in their favour, but i wouldn't have been opposed to it.

I think Goldsack will be a handy player, and i'm not totally sold on Ball's fitness, so not upset that the trade didn't go through.

Very happy to be honest that leon and nathan brown are still on the list, breathing a big sigh of relief. Also happy that fraser is still there he will be so much better for having someone like Jolly around, love that combo !!

Missing ball was bit disappointing .. but sidebottom, beams, blair are all youngsters coming through to fill in that in and under role :) :) i like i like !!

Does anyone else think though that the pies will pick up say Daniel Harris with pick 70 or what ever our high pick is ??

Without knowing the exact in's and outs of the Ball deal I am ultimately not that fussed.

We aquired Jolly which is a good get.

Ball would have been handy, but ultimately he was a short term get and a player who wasn't going to be a huge advantage beyond the next 2-3 years. As such I am relieved ridiculous deals such as Nathan Brown for Ball never eventuated. It's a missed oppertunity but not a massive one and if the saints where playing hardball I am fine with it. I would have traded Goldsack or Fraser for Ball too but I only consider them trade worthy for the same reason I don't consider Ball a massive loss in that long term I can't see them being more then handy role or depth players. Ball probably had a bit more to add structurally over the next couple of years.

Fev again it's hard to tell. Considering what they eventually took you'd say something along the lines of 14 and Dawes would have got the job done, but I am not sure we had the luxury of room in the cap to pay him his full 700k without putting some strain on us to hold onto other players. He would have been a good get but it all depends on what it would have taken to get the job done if we couldn't pay his full contract.

We did the most do-able trade and didn't get sucked into overpaying for a sexy big name. Both players we missed out on would have been varying degrees of handy but both trades seemed to be fairly tricky for us.

IM VERY UPSET, of course we dont know exactly why it couldnt be done but from information made its way to the football supporting world the goldsack + pick 30 for luke ball was a no brainer for me!

once again we say "should've"

but Goldy know has to be in our best 22 or we just look silly! if he's fit and hasnt made alot of errors or in terrible form he should be in the seniors.

i didnt want to lose nathan brown (future fullback) but the others that were mentioned in the media Wellingham (can be replaced) and Goldsack (can be replaced) wouldnt have fazed me if we got Ball for them.

Go Pies for 2010 but i thought we wouldve been more aggressive!

ST.KILDA DIDNT WANT GOLDSACK OR WELLINGHAM

They wanted us to trade him for picks (or everitt) and then on trade them for ball

We did this and St.kilda still said no

There is nothing stopping us picking up Ball with our late pick in the National Draft (if he decides to nominate).

Still don't see Cook or Stanley getting a game unless we are crippled with injuries. So why keep them on the list?

Bit disappointed we didn't make a play for Fev, but with him at FF, Malthouse would've had to re-work his entire gameplan and fev would also have to cop the sh*thouse delivery from our midfield.

Collingwood hopefully didn't entertain any of the stupid rumours of trading Reid, Dawes or Brown at any stage. All Mick has to do now is give them a go and for those three to grab their opportunity with both hands.

until i can be bothered looking for a source you might be correct but im pretty sure i heard and saw (on tv) ross lyon say that he was after a player for ball not picks.

i really cant be bothered looking for a source though, its friday arvo and ive almost finished work!

It is getting bloody annoying now!!

AGAIN PEOPLE, THEY DIDN'T WANT GOLDSACK OR WELLINGHAM!!!

We were willing to give off both I believe, definitely willing to give off Wellingham, but it wasn't enough. They wanted Everitt but we couldn't get an early enough pick.
