Trade Week Rumours!

I'm not sure what you are getting at Acker - I'm trying to say that despite any rumours etc. the Robbo deal did not get done. Whether that is because someone (?) over-ruled Eade, or whether there was some other reason, the likes of you and I will probably never know. The bottom line is, the deal was not done so let's not hang the guy for a deal that wasn't done (and which may have turned out to be fantastic if it had eventuated.) The whole Robo-gate conversation is unfair on Eade and is an academic exercise based on speculation and rumour.

I'm just a bit surprised I guess at how much the bullies supporters on here criticise the club or personnel and players in the club. We have had very good reason to do so in the past but I think in 2008 we have had a pretty good year and on-field are poised to be a force for several years at least. Off field, the club is going ok and is in very safe hands. I guess I'm still glass half full.

Paul Keating said on "Lateline" last night that our banking system in Australia is standing up better in the face of the US mortgage crisis mainly due to the checks and balances introduced after the review into the reccesion we had to have in the early 1990's.

The Western Bulldogs might in going forward into the future have the same thoughts about the ending to 2007 and the exhaustive review that followed, which included the now enacted upon reccomendation appointing a General Manager Football Operations (Fantasia)

I think we are in better position as a club for the seperation of coach from being the prime player negotiation source at the club. And the major trade wheeler dealer.

Suggest ........................................fine
Coach............................................fine
Due Dilligence and negotiations...........not the coach

I think you'll find that Fantasia will oversight all aspects of list management and will pull rank whenever it might be needed. As to who does the negotiating and due diligence; that would be up to Fantasia to work out and he would be held accountable for the results. He would certainly heavily involve Eade but not just hand over to Eade imo.

I think we are agreeing Acker.

Clarkson over ruled last year and took Dew... in hindsight a bold move and a great decision...

Personally I think the final say shld be with the list manager or footbal ops manager after a 'joint' consultation with the footy dept incl coaches etc

He is welcolme to suggest and I am sure he is the major point of reference in suggesting what we need trade wise. But I am glad we have the likes of Fantasia in control of our ultimate trade move outcomes.

Me too, thats why we got him. Rodney can do his coaching only and Fantasia looks after the rest.

We had a big look at Damon last year and his body failed the medico's test didn't it? The other big rumour last year was Ken McGregor.

I think we can safely take Nathan Thompson off the rumour mill this year considering he went around with the retired players on grand final day.

im not saying he is a good player, but look at players coming out of retirement.

Here is one to make you laugh - Griffen to Carlton, with no explanation as to what he would be traded for.

Some dude on SEN said it (called in) and the next day everyone at work was on about it. Had to have a chuckle and share.

I endulge with a personal opinion one

How about Farren Ray to North Melbourne for their 2nd Round draft pick "27" I think ?

I don't think it would get the deal done in itself, may need to sweeten it somehow for North to agree. I think Farren is a 33-40 range pick, clearly well below what I believe his worth is.

Eagles or Freo upgrade of our 2nd Round pick #31>(#18 or #19) and a 4th rounder #51

Or a 4th & 5th round pick #50 & #66 if we consider the draft is deep ?

I reckon there is a chance Farren will stay, he wants to stay in melb and if he doesn't get a better offer he won't want to go in the draft.

I think most here will be pleasantly surprised by what we get for Ray. There's a fair bit of interest floating around and they'll have to compete against each other.

Considering this comment just published from James Fantasia, we maybe looking for a late or couple of late draft picks to elevate Mulligan and Shaw from the rookie list. It definitely looks like they are keepers.

"In the ruck, we've got James Mulligan and John Shaw from our rookie list and they're developing nicely and they've got a few years of development to come."

I hope we get a pick in the late 20s for Farren. I rate him a bit higher than Power, and we got pick 43 for him, which we used on Easton Wood.

If we keep Ray, I believe he has what it takes to improve enough to be able to be in our best 22.

If Ray does stay then he would be best served to never try to mess the club around again by playing hardball with the timing of his contract negotiations.

By waiting till the end of the year to try to get the best deal he simply lowered the value of his contract and his trade value as well.

I agree. He had an injury interrupted year and I reckon that recruiters (as opposed to BF posters who saw him play 1 game and will offer up pick 60) will give him fair value, not to mention some competition to push up the price.

My prediction is a 2nd rounder at worst.

Ray is not going to stay - hes asked to be traded and he is out of contract. If we dont organize a trade, he goes to melbourne or a WA club.

Can someone clarify something as I can't find it. Has the rule changed where an uncontracted player can now nominate for the National Draft? Previously it was only the PSD.

Uncontracted players can only nominate for the national draft if their club delists them.

Thanks Rocco.

The more I look into it, the more I think things have infact changed.

November

Tuesday, November 11 (2pm) -- Uncontracted listed players nominate.

Wednesday, November 12 (2pm) -- Draft nominations close.

Friday, November 14 (2pm) -- List Lodgement 2.

Wednesday, November 19 (2pm) -- Delisted players nominate.

Saturday, November 29 (10am) -- 2008 NAB AFL Draft selection meeting (Telstra Dome).

Maybe they were talking about Jonathon Griffin from Adelaide?
He has quit the Crows, apparently...

There hasn't been much mention or talk about Ray since he quit the Dogs.
I believe Collingwood should have some mild interest in him.

What would WB fans want as compensation to get a deal done?

Would a 3rd rounder + a player be enough or at maximum a second round pick on its own?
