You think what the club is doing is brilliant. What a surprise.

If we do no trades then your on here saying that that is the best and only thing to do and this is a "bad year for trading" (without any explanation as to why it's any different to any other year) and we are better off not getting involved and bagging and arguing with posters who say we should be more involved.

If we traded 10 players out you would be on here saying that that is an act of genius and it's the best year ever for trading and that it was the best outcome ever and calling anybody who has doubts about it a traitor.

Whatever the club does you would be on here saying how brilliant it is. There is no independent thought or intelligence behind any of your opinions. Just a desperation to see everything that happens as the bestest thing ever.

I reckon we should have made a play for Gary Ablett jnr

Pissed off with the club that we didn't even try - should have convinced him to go in the PSD

Nothing wrong with what we did in trade week..!!

We have brought in Jacob Brennan to replace Spangher and Wilkes.

Good move.

If our midfield stay on the park we are good for 2011.

We should not trade for pick 4

Gaff or Heppell will be good.

Gess I would have liked to get Darling as well.
It looks like if we get a midfielder for no.4 we wont get Darling

So they have to get a new tall forward for backup

It seems to me that The Eagles are making good decisions in trade week , taking into account that not many want to come over.

So its been good

We haven't made any decisions this trade week.

We need to trade spang and McKinley. Hopefully for pick upgrades.

These are a must.

Then i reckon we should trade kerr we wont but he's rotting away with us and would do so much better elsewhere and whatever team he goes to would probs win a premiership.

Andrew Krakouer is gone

Andrew Krakouer has gone to Gold Coast then collingwood

Are we at trade week ?. I mean pick 25 for Krakouer looks like a bargain. Why wouldnt we parcel one of our picks in the twenties plus mckinley for him. Looks like the only squad changes will be coaches again. Or we will pick up other clubs rejects like DAZI. Wow Woosha has missed the boat again.

Re: Andrew Krakouer is gone

Slight, just ever so slight, over reaction!

Wasn't in the age window we need, tbh, I think it was a good call by the club. Will fit in at Collingwood brilliantly, I believe.

So what happened when Worsfold said we were going to get players in trade week? Jetta re-signed, Sherman not interested, Josh Hill wants to be at Hawthorn, what else is left? No one wants to come play here, even the home grown guys, ugh
He didn't actually say that. He said they would look at what was on offer which has been, frankly, overpriced or crap.

The reality of the situation is quite clear. West Coast isn't that an exciting proposition for players at the moment having won only 16 of our past 66 games. Players careers are getting shorter all the time. Most players and people from the "Me Now" generation want instant success and West Coast are quite a few years away from achieving that.

It is also hard to offload guys like McKinley (who has some potential) and Spangher (who has limited potential) for the cold hard facts that in a bottom club over the past three years they couldn't cement a place in the side.

I mean if you are a rival club you are hardly going to be knocking the door down to get them are you? You will wait until the final day and make an offer and if it gets rejected so be it. You might take your chance in the pre-season draft.

You can hardly blame West Coast for not taking low draft selections for them, which they won't use.

Also, trying to trade guys like Lynch (27 years old and turning 28 in January), Nicoski (27), Hansen (27) is near impossible. To put that in perspective, Daniel Motlop (28), who has more ability in his left toe than those three combined, has attracted little or no interest.

We also have no idea of how much talking is going on behind the scenes.

Everyone on this board who truly supports West Coast wants to see the club climb up the ladder as quickly as possible. We all have our own theories on how that should be done.

The long-term solution is to draft as many young players as possible and try to build a team around them while managing the exit of senior players but not losing all your experience at the same time.

Whether John Worsfold is the best coach to do that is another question for another thread. At the moment we have picks no.4, no.26 and no.28. Unless we are offered a geniune ready made star in the mould of Gary Ablett for no.4 we should never trade that. Nor should we trade no.26 or no.28 for fringe players over the age of 23 at any other club. Remember, the effect of constant travel tends to shorten players careers from the West.

That is not to say someone like Josh Hill wouldn't have been handy but if someone doesn't want to move to WA, you can't blame them.

There are two days left. We can only hope to get something half-decent for McKinley and Spangher but don't hold your breath.

there's a write up in todays south australian advertiser. Port are going make a play for brad ebert today. basically says we are worried about him leaving for nothing next year, when his contract expires. we want their first round pick (14 i think), they are unlikely to give that up. Motlop + 2nd rounder was another possible trade mentioned. but there is no way we'd take an avgerage 28yo with 2-3yrs left in him.

0855: Trade murmur: Bachour Houli's manager Dan Richardson says if Essendon can't organise a trade to Richmond, Houli will enter the draft. He will not be in an Essendon guernsey next season.

PSD?

Ebert has alot to improve on this pre-season i would be annoyed to trade him after we have stuck with him. Potential is there future leadership group player,.

if port offered there 1st round pick for him, we'd be stupid to turn it down.
2 1st round picks in a strong draft!

Re: Andrew Krakouer is gone

People we need to remember this guy was in and out of ****ing Richmond ffs when it was cellar dwellar, this should tell you he fits into the "Too Good for WAFL but not good enough for AFL" category.

If Port want Ebert its a 1st rounder or Surjan + their 2nd for Ebert and our 3rd or something close to that.

For another thought if today we get a pick in the 30's for McKinely and a 4th rounder for Spangher would we consider trading our pick 28 for one of the band 2 compensation picks and then saving that for next season or the year later? Obviously the club with that band 2 pick was intending to use it this season anyway and gets a sweetener.

Basically if we know we have more picks than we have senior spots to fill we use, say pick 37 (traded in), instead of using pick 28. We trade 28 + maybe a later pick (Spangher rnd 4) for a band 2 compo pick that we then bank for a year or even two. If we wait untill 2012 that pick could be a low 2nd rounder (18 > 22).

Just a thought.

^^yeah thats very schrewd but i think we need to use our picks this year i dont think waiting 2 years will help too much but it's a darn good idea.

warming to it.

ebert+28 for pick 16
that's the best chance of getting the deal done.

ebert+28 for pick 16

i think that would get the deal done.

We took Ebert with pick 13 in 2007. Since then, he's played 54 games out of a possible 66 (the 4th most behind Kreuzer, Rioli and Taylor) and proven that he is going to be a 200 game player. I wouldn't accept pick 16 in a straight swap, nevermind having to sweeten the deal.

It all depends how many spots we give up to do it.

If we simply drop 4 or 5 places this year late in the 2nd round and in doing so pick up an extra pick 18 > 20 in 2012 I think thats time well spent.

Only will work if we don't have enough senior spots to use all these picks on this season.

Exactly.:thumbsu:

If Ebert ever goes to Port they will need to pay overs. It would be like us trading in Matera from the GC. That family name doesn't help the club that want them.;)
