Port board arent too happy with the prospect of losing their top draft pick for Ebert.

I dont mind him but he is slow and has the worst DE in the AFL. You have to remember he has played 3 seasons and over 50 games and has not improved at all.

We have Kerr, Masten, Stevens, Swift still in the team still available to do his role.

there's a write up in todays south australian advertiser. Port are going make a play for brad ebert today. basically says we are worried about him leaving for nothing next year, when his contract expires. we want their first round pick (14 i think), they are unlikely to give that up. Motlop + 2nd rounder was another possible trade mentioned. but there is no way we'd take an avgerage 28yo with 2-3yrs left in him.

I think this is when stories like this lose any credibility. Port wouldn't even offer this up as they know we would laugh in their face and stop taking them seriously. We have stated we have no interest in Motlop, like they would seriously offer it up. This is only a trade Port Adelaide supporters would dream up...

The contracts only seem to be 2-3 years, so theres always someone coming out of contract. Didn't they say Naita was being set up for a long term deal? I wouldn't be worried about GWS, all the players could have jumped ship to go to the GC this year if they had wanted to.

Daddy4eyes - hard workers are going to be important with the new interchange rule. Out of many of the young players, Ebert has shown the most. He isn't a flashy player so he doesn't get the accolades.

That is bull shit. He improved a shitload this year. He led our kicks FFS!

Is there anything good about leading the kick count?
I could play for the Eagles and get the ball and boot it out of bounds on the full 20 times a game. Doesnt make me any good.

Im not saying he is utter crap but there are heaps of better young players in the league than him and the fact we have a load of young midfielders all vying for similar positions we should trade him if the pick in return is good.

Re: Andrew Krakouer is gone

Not worth pick 25 to us. Would be a stop gap solution whilst young players develop where as Collingwood is in flag mode so adding a player of his class is of greater value to them, hence why they stumped up pick 25

**** sake, kicking stats are overrated, if you turn the ball over every second kick.
we arent talking about a guy with hurn like kicking. yes he leads our club in kicks, but every 2nd kick comes straight back over his head. cut our losses and trade him!

too many of our supporters settle for mediocrity. no wonder we finished last.

Its a big IF.
Im probably being harsh on the guy, but we are not gonna get a better offer if he does decide to go within the next few yrs.

If ebert's kicking efficiency improves by 10% then he'll end up being at the very least an A grade player. He gut runs, leads by example and gets plenty of the ball.

I also think there's a tinge of ranga in his hair and as we all know, if you wanna win a premiership you have to have at least 1 decent ranga.

so he is two effective kicks away from being an A grader. Not bad. He also has leadership - a very valuable comodity.

thats two posessions he has that are delivered more effective.

Stats!!!!

if you remove 2 clangers or critical errors from every ebo match and turn them into score assists all of a sudden his season looks magnificent.

Beginning to sound as though McKinley and Carlton is a no go, and that he'd stay in WA and play for East Perth if he can't get traded.

Wow. Trading out Ebert is the worst thing I could think off. There is a reason he finished top 10 in our B&F.

The thought of trading him out for pick 15 is ridiculous. Would have to be minimum top 10 and even then you wouldnt want to throw away the years thats been put into Ebert.

Honestly Tas, don't come on this board and talk sense.:p We're the spooners, hate the coach, call most of the players spuds and just want to see a major blood letting! And it doesn't look like it will happen, so everyone is disappointed and angry!:p;)

lol I know the feeling, were in a similar boat last year but we took it out on the coach and staff primarily.

Not sure if it is by design or by fate, but I think the Eagles would benefit from relying more on the draft than trade week.

My only real surprise is why the Eagles haven't wielded the cheque book to look at securing one of the promising recruiters, like Collingwood's. I know the Pies have money but we have pinched a few of their staff already.

it's a shame we can't trade our No 1 PSD pick. Could easily get a pick in the scenario that a club won't trade a uncontracted player to another club so that player goes PSD and we give a club No 1 and they give us the pick which was rejected.

Hate the idea of trading Ebert. He is an awesome ball winner and gets it in attacking positions. Certainly a bit of focus on his skills this summer and a bit more maturity (isn't he still about 19 or 20?) and he will be a very valuable member of our team.

this x 100 - i dont want to be a freo - constantly trading for hacks - draft em in and show some patience ffs - we had a good run and now we are at the other end of the pendulum

id rather see us draft a champion team over a few years than do the essendon/ sydney/ north melbourne thing and keep making finals with no realistic chance of a flag

didnt collingwood come second last under malthouse? they were all calling for his head at collyflogland - the game had passed him by etc etc etc

he now has another premiership

i still believe in woosha although i think he needs help tactically on matchday - hes a leader not a gameday coach

Jusy imagine Erbert to port
Pick 16 WCE+ Surjan

Pick 16 to Gold coast for Matera

Who would you rather have ebert or matera?

He's 20 years old. His DE has improved. It will improve further.

My point before was he has improved. He will continue to improve. Let's not try and trade every player who doesn't currently meet our standards. There wouldn't be many left if we did. I guarantee that in 3 years time many people will be surprised at some of our young guys who have become A graders. These young guys will continue to develop. No doubt some of the people bagging them now will come out and say they knew all along.
